I have been going here since I was a kid. We love their salsa and chips! Everything is homemade from the salsa to the masa. They offer burritos and homemade tortillas as well! Arriolas Tortilleria is the kind of place you hear about from your friends, a local legend. You won't find an online menu or ordering system, no, you have to walk in and find out for yourself. So I did. I walked in and saw a nice selection of unique offerings. Everything sounded so good. But I have a favorite breakfast burrito I've liked since I was a kid, the classic egg, beans and cheese. To my surprise, this was on the menu, with potatoes added to the classic burrito. I gave it a go, the customer service was excellent and for only $9, I was already happy. Now, onto the food. The size of the burrito was very large, nothing like the weak burritos Taco Bell has on offer these days. A small disappointment was that they only gave me one tiny salsa cup. On first bite, I was greeted with a mouthful of potato. A bad first impression given that some places try to pad the size with cheap filling. The potato was not crispy either, more doughy. Sadly, the rest of the ingredients were not very flavorful either, I'm not sure if they forgot salt or don't season the potatoes but there was not much of a flavor profile. Also, very very skimpy on the cheese, I couldn't even find it. The beans were very clumpy refried beans, I'm not entirely sure if they're canned or yesterday's beans half reheated. Ultimately, for $9 it was adequate and for a hearty meal I would recommend it, just don't go in expecting anything ground breaking. I will return for the tamale bowl soon. read more

Arriola Tortilleria is an Indio institution that's been around for over a half century in this location, specifically since 1965. Although their origins dates back to 1927 when the founders started selling tortillas from their home. Located in downtown Indio, in a historic area which the city has put a great deal of effort revitalizing in the past few years. Everything at Arriola's, from the tortillas, to their salsas and their massive tamales are all made in house. For a business that withstood the test of time, I knew I had to give them a try. My initial impressions was that it's a very low key spot with the interior kept very clean. There are no tables for dining in here, after all it's technically a factory and not a restaurant. It's a good sign that they are a beloved part the local community supports and not a tourist trap like many establishments in the Coachella Valley. The lady that greeted me was very friendly. I grabbed a dozen of their tamales, a small bag of chips and a medium salsa. The tamales are huge. The taste is solid, with a great texture and well seasoned. They are generous with the masa which is produced in house (which you can also purchase to make your own tamales at home). Their chips are cut from their own tortillas, then fried. These are thick chips with a satisfying crunch that are delicious. The salsa is very mild and I didn't care too much for it, but I can dress it up to my liking at home. This place was a bit suspect when we walked in. The menu was limited so I wasn't sure what to make of it. It was super clean with a few coolers for sodas and freshly made corn and flour tortillas. We were ordering a couple of tamales and chili Verde nachos. I was taken aback a bit when we asked what came on the navhos abd the cashier confidently said the nachos had cheese and meat with salsa, nothing more. We ordered them anyway. The food arrived quickly, much quicker than the reviews we read said. There is no seating so we were prepared to eat in the car The minute I opened the nacho container I knew there was a reason the nachos only had meat and cheese. The smell was heavenly and that first bite was spectacular. The chips were thick and super crispy never getting soggy despite being smothered in cheese sauce and meat. The chili Verde was fantastic, the meat was tender and the sauce was super flavorful with just the right amount of spice to enjoy. I would have preferred a bit spicer but as it is you get to enjoy all the flavors without your mouth burning. While the nachos were filling we didn't eat the tamales right away Given they were bigger that the palm of my hand. We had the tamales the next day.. oh my, my .. these were the closest if not identical to the ones my Grandma used to make, filled with plenty meat and the right mix of sauce. The masa was fluffy and perfect seasoned with a kiss of the chile. The meat and chili mixture was superb, not spicy just filled with flavor. We brought home some flour tortillas and I cant wait to have them. I almost dont want to recommend this place to save it all to myself but I want to see businesses like this thrive so that I can continue to enjoy them every time I'm in the area read more

I placed an order on a Tuesday, for a few dozen that following Sunday for my Christmas dinner. The cashier was friendly and I didn't have to wait at all. He quickly brought out my order of warm tamales, Wow talk about big ! The beef was my favorite, very flavorful. Lots of Masa! . All you need is one! The chicken was also good also, but it was a tad bit salty. This is a hole in the spot in Indio that has been around for many years. The food is good but pricey. I was disappointed when I was charged a fee for using my credit card. I don't carry any cash, who does anymore? They have already hiked up the food prices so much, why are they charging their patrons to use their own money. I will not patronize any restaurant that charges you to use your own money. Looks like right place cuz there was a line and asked a couple people what they were getting and they mentioned the burritos and tamales. Get the tamale and burrito boats. Very yummy with extra meat and sauce on top. Delicioso. Service was very helpful and nice esp for us first timers coming here. People waiting in line were nice...we are waiting for 2 doz tamales to pick up in a couple hours since everyone was buying! The chips and salsa are popular too. Definitely a go to place since the local I spoke to says this is the place. I mentioned the supermarket tamales and he said they're hit or miss sometimes but at least here you know it's fresh. We have been looking for the best nachos in Coachella Valley, and found them right in our backyard at Arriola's Tortilleria! We got the nachos deluxe, which were deluxe indeed, homemade chips covered in beans, cheese, sour cream, guac and the most tender meat we've ever tasted! Moving on, we sailed to the tamale boat, a "boat full" of delicious tamale, and ended with the red burrito. The burrito weighed about 45 pounds () and we said we were so full we would just give it a little taste. Needless to say, that burrito is history because we couldn't help ourselves!!
