I ordered a cafe con leche, a Cuban sandwich and a Media Noche sandwich. Everything was delicious. Especially the media noche sandwich. I've had plenty of media noches in my life, but never as good as this one. Not sure what kind of bread they use for their media noche, but it was so soft, just the perfect amount of sweetness. Puerto Sagua is an absolute Miami Beach classic! I've been here so many times that I've lost count, but I keep coming back for one thing: the oxtail stew! It is hands down my favorite. I've never had anything quite like it, except maybe in Caribbean Costa Rica, and there is something so special about the way they make it here. It is literally my first stop every time I visit Miami Beach. I genuinely crave it! And then there's the quatro leches cake. INSANELY good. You will absolutely finish it. I recently tried their iced Cuban coffee with sugar and milk, and it was such a delicious addition. The passion fruit juice is also fantastic. I finally tried the grilled lobster plate, and WOW, it did not disappoint. Honestly, you might need to walk around the block a few times afterward because everything is just THAT good, and you're going to finish every last bite. Puerto Sagua has been serving Miami Beach since 1968, and it is still standing strong, serving incredible Cuban food with so much character and history. While my fave Cuban restaurants are more mainland, this was a great spot on the beach. I called about an hour ahead on new year's day to see if they had room for our group for dinner and they did. They gave us a huge table at the center of the restaurant. Our server was so funny and sweet. He allowed our party to practice their Spanish with him and it was really kind. We ordered a variety of things. Two people in our party wanted the seafood paella. Our server double checked with the chef to see if they were able to make it. It was a 45 minute wait for the dish, but our group did not mind. We told our server to bring out the food as it was ready. I ordered the ham croquettes (a must for me when in Miami), the roasted chicken, and flan. The food was just ok for me. A lot of my friends kept saying how much they loved their dishes though! I think I am just pickier with Cuban food. Came across this restaurant on TikTok and knew I had to give this place a visit. 1st day in Miami and I made my way over for lunch. Let me tell you a story of a place I looked forward to revisiting for about a year just to have my heart broken. First I will tell you the good. The food here is authentic and delicious. Besides the fried plantain stuffed with shrimp and the tostones we had the Vaca Frita with rice and black beans. The Vaca, rice and beans were perfectly seasoned and delicious. It smelled so good I couldn't take a picture! Now a couple of things that are not great. The area has a serious parking availability and price problem, so account for that, there is a parking garage close but the prices change a lot. The service was very... dry, seemed in a bad mood, employed high pressure selling tactics and was visibly unhappy when we didn't roll with it. The place had the door open and the AC seemed to not be working in Miami's heat that is not great, to boot the drinks were very expensive. The price of the food was offensively high. The pictured tostones (green plantains) were more than 8 dollars. And the few tiny srimp stuffed plantain was more than 11 dollars. The Fried Beef (Vaca frita was reasonably priced at just over $20 considering how expensive beef has gotten. All in all this place serve the real Item when it comes to Cuban food. But it has turned from the beloved family place our elders and we loved back in the day. To a more tourist money geared place. At least that's how we felt when we left. I can't remember the last time I had Cuban food but Puerto Sagua seemed to be an authentic place. We came for lunch and ordered a Mamey batido and mango juice. They both tasted fresh and were really good. For food, I got the Pollo Asado (grilled chicken) and my partner got Ropa Vieja (shredded beef). The piece of chicken was huge and I really liked it came with black beans, rice, and plantains. I tried my friend's beef dish as well which was quite tender and flavorful. While visiting Miami Beach for a couple of days I sought out some of the towns more legitimate Cuban fare. Puerto Sagua in South Beach was just the place. This is a no frills, comfort food diner-like establishment in business since 1962. I considered it a good sign that a local Miami Beach cop was having lunch inside. While the menu was vast and impressive, I elected to order one of the more ubiquitous South Florida dishes, the Cuban Sandwich. Or as it's called here, the "Sandwich Cubano". Available in either medium or large sizes, I ordered the medium and it was just right. A traditional Cuban sandwich is a pressed, toasted sandwich featuring Cuban bread, roast pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles and yellow mustard. The sandwich here was excellent! This Cubano was clearly a more traditional, refined version with fewer ingredients, but with bold, balanced flavors. Service was very homey and genuine. My friends and I decided to try this place because it had good reviews and the prices seemed fair, especially compared to a lot of other restaurants around the South beach area. For the main, I ordered the roasted chicken which was a special for the day, and it included rice, black beans, and maduros. They gave the option of white or dark meat and I chose the dark. I asked if grilled onions could be added on top, and they did without charging extra. I appreciated that. Unfortunately, the chicken didn't deliver in the way I hoped. It was tender, but lacked flavor. I wish it came with a sauce. I've personally had better Cuban roasted chicken in LA, but I think that's because it's topped with a garlic sauce. I wanted to love this place but it kinda fell short for us. It's a smaller place and simple inside. Service was good but the food was just ok. I got a chicken salad and the portion was kinda small with barely any onion and no cheese, lettuce and tomato only. Which was fine but I'm used to other Cuban salads I guess. The dressing was left on the table and was just alright. My husband got piccadillo which tasted pretty good but was also a small portion. It did include sweet plantains and black beans (which I think was more like black bean soup) and rice. Just kind of a lot for the portions at $20 for the salad (which was the daily special price and is usually $23 I believe) and $25 for the picadillo. It is South Beach though so what do you expect but in my opinion there are definitely better places, sadly. read more

This was recommended by a neighbor who visits Miami frequently. I love the idea that there is a long-standing establishment that has survived many decades in a very touristy/pricey region of Miami. The interior was clean and looked like it had been unchanged over decades. Our server was very friendly and food came out quickly. My wife had a shrimp omelette and it was bland. My son had pancake and eggs and it was typical. My daughter's grilled chicken was very good and she loved it. My ropa vieja was delicious, as other Yelp reviews mentioned. Potato ball was ok, but nowhere near as good as the ones from Porto's back home. The bill was higher than expected and I'm guessing they include the tip (aka "service fee") in the bill. If so, then I tipped twice. Also, they had a 4% surcharge for using credit card. Overall, it's a nostalgic place to visit and I'm glad we went. This place is great! Came here with three kids, got a table right away. Atmosphere is casual and the servers were all super friendly and sweet with my kids. Our food came super fast, the kids' within just a few minutes and mine/husband's in like 5-10min. Both my husband's oxtail stew and my pork shoulder were super flavorful. My kids all shared a chicken/rice dish and my 4.5 year old liked the beans and rice so much he started eating off my plate.
