Yesterday was our first time at Puff's. We actually stumbled upon it while on our way to work. I got a curry chicken patty and slice of Carrot Cake. Amazing, amazing, amazing!! The patty tasted like you were right in Jamaica buying it. It was cooked to perfection . Seasoned very well ,and the outside was very nice and not too flaky were gets everywhere. The whole patty very flavorful. The cake was so good. Very flavorful and the cream cheese frosting was very good. The cake was like they had just made it , very healthy fresh ingredients. The 2 woman whom waited on us were very nice and explained the different patties to us. It is a Take Out only and I could see behind the counter it is very clean. One of the ladies was preparing some and she was strategically placing all the ingredients. They put a really good amount of filling in their patties. It was so nice to get a real authentic homemade Jamaican Patty ,that the person with me went back after work to get another one . I was full because had the carrot cake too. He got the callaloo patty which is similar to spinach. I had a bite and it was very good. I will definitely be back and highly recommend . read more

Today was my first experience at Puff's Patties and it was total patty perfection. Puff's is really popular in posts and videos online and I get it. I ordered a jerk chicken patty with pepperoni and mozzarella cheese on coco bread. The patty was made as a patty should always be made-with flavor, color, perfect spice levels and plenty of filling. The coco bread was fresh and the mozzarella and pepperoni add-on's were very tasty. I've been having a problem with being served stale, dried out, flat patties lately and Puff's solved that issue. Second time at this establishment. The first time was VERY good, the second time was excellent. I met one of the owners, Keisha, who was pleasant, offered great recommendations, and allowed me to sample the pineapple ginger drink. The restaurant is a small storefront, but by no means is it cramped. They make great use of the space, and the brightness from the natural light and clean aesthetic make it a pleasant place to be. Patties are in the name, and the patties are tasty (I got the spicy beef and jerk chicken), but the start of the show were the empanadas. Keisha told me they were delicious, and no lies were told. Both the jerk mushroom and the oxtail with cheese were literally bursting at the seams. They were cooked to order and came with a sauce specifically designed for each respective empanada. The oxtail sauce was creamy with a little tanginess. The jerk mushroom had a scotch bonnet pepper sauce which brought a the heat. I feel like empanadas might be my go-to going forward. I'm a chef who's lived in the area for quite some time. Just yesterday was my very first time trying two patties... the curry chicken and spicy beef. Both phenomenal !!! the flaky pastry dough is beyond amazing and these patties are properly filled. If you think you know proper Jamaican patties, you likely do not until you come here. Saw this place on IG promoting their stuffed oxtail, Mac & cheese beef patties with coco bread. They definitely need better marketing because I've passed by this spot hundreds of times and would've never thought that it was more than a run of the mill patty shop, which are a dime a dozen in this neighborhood. So the patty was good, but nothing super super special. It was missing a little kick, but was definitely filling. I also tried the jerk mushroom empanada (super spicy), ackee and saltfish empanada (perfect), & I ended up getting a free oxtail empanada (it comes with cheese which wasn't bad, but unexpected). So there was a mixup between my friend's order and mine and even though it was fixed the staff was slow to swap. They had to continuously ask their managers questions, we had to repeat the issue and initial order, and they seemed hesitant to fix it. My waitress ended up being apologetic which I appreciated, but the other lady stared at my friend as she told her she's lactose intolerant & didnt know the oxtail empanada had cheese. It's definitely a small takeout spot, but if they'd warn about wait times, advertise better and work on their customer service it'll be great. My son went 2 days after me and got the loaded beef patty he absolutely loved it for $12.00 definitely worth it. Gotta eat it with a fork eventually from all the gravy. He was out of ackee, so we settled on curry chicken, jerk chicken, and spicy beef, with a pineapple-ginger drink. Killer. If spice isn't your thing, the curry was the mildest. Checked out puffs and I was pleasantly surprised even though they were mostly out of patties which is a great sign. I was lucky enough to commandeer a jerk chicken patty. I was about to drive all the way to Sybil's in queens, lol. I'll still brave that pilgrimage but Puffs will definitely be on my hit list. Overall rating: 4.4 Being one of the only customers, it was a lot of waiting for the staff to come back from her break. Given this is a new place, they should consider either adding a door ring or something that notifies staff when the door opens. I did come around lunch time, so not sure if that has anything to do with it. I do wish there was more of a theme to decorations and the music. I got the jerk chicken and the spicy beef. These oddly tasted like soup pastries & not what I was expecting. It was interesting how I went around Noon and they were out of water. Nice twist, but not for me. I've been so eager to visit and today I had time. It's a small shop with a big impression as soon as you walk in. I was fortunate enough to meet the owner, Kim, and she was so friendly and joyful. Everything is made on site daily and the quality of the food really shows. I purchased a mild beef patty with coco bread and a small pineapple ginger juice and everything came up to $11. The juice was delicious and refreshing and the patty with coco bread was equally as delicious. Seasoned perfectly, flaky crust and the bread was soft and such a compliment to the patty. They have a variety of patties as well as empanadas, sliced cakes and buns. Personally, I love a traditional beef patty so I'm never going to try an oxtail or jerk patty but you guys feel free to do so. I'm sure it's delicious. There aren't too many restaurants that make traditional beef patties so I highly recommend Puff's for your next stop to get one. Eat, drink and enjoy! read more

The food was new and innovative. I would have never imagined putting oxtail inside of a beef patty then adding Mac & Cheese and cocoa bread. However the amount of oxtail in the patty was minimal. I would have loved more gravy in the patty. It was a little dry for my tastebuds. The pizza patty was more moist and I would repurchase. The price was a little steep though. Stopped by around 6p, only callaloo and jerk chicken available... more patties were 20 minutes from being done. Surprising vegetarian options like jerk mushroom which caught my carnivore eye. Oxtail empanadas here usually sell out earlier in the day. It's really hard finding patties that have a magical, somewhat thick, chewy yet slightly flaky crust. I've had jerk chicken patties elsewhere which have left me skeptical, as they usually don't taste much like jerk chicken... but this was great, really nice spice and flavor. Pineapple ginger juice was AMAZING, strong ginger flavor but not too much. Coco bread and some cheesecake slices on sale. Both card and cash accepted. I think there is a small standing counter space but no tables or seats, so plan ahead if the weather isn't cooperative (which feels like everyday now). Wanted to like this place and give a better review and rating, but bad customer service will absolutely ruin an experience. Walked in on a Saturday afternoon and were told that all patties were a 15 minute Wait. We said ok, no problem and were told to wait outside. 30+ minutes later, no patties. When asking how much longer for the wait, the person inside had an attitude and wasn't giving a definitive answer. When they finally started fulfilling orders, there was no order to it. So people who came after us were getting served first, and it was complete chaos with multiple people getting upset. They allowed people to walk in and get food before they served the folks who had been waiting for 15-30 minutes. And the fact that they couldn't have the decency to be pleasant or apologize was beyond disappointing. The 1 star is only because the spicy beef patty was good, even though the crust was thin and fell apart. But the oxtail empanada was a huge disappointment. A little tiny piece of oxtail and all breading. I really wanted to support a small, black owned business but cannot recommend this place to anyone. read more

First of all great location! Right in front of a busy bus stop. Nice to have another choice besides bodega snacks. First visit, I admit iwas quick, I was waiting for the bus. I scanned an ackee empanada and a curry chicken and barbecue chicken patty. They looked nice and fat. The real star of the show is the curry chicken patty. The runner up is the jerk chicken patty. Not annoyingly spiced because it's jerk seasoned but nice and friendly. It sneaks behind you and says hello. I visited again and the curry chicken patty was out! The word is out! Nice! However the ackee and barbecue chicken Pattie's needs some tweaking. The barbecue sauce overpowered the chicken with its sweetened sauce and the ackee was a nice try. The regular beef patty was pretty good. But the oxtail empanada wasn't worth it. Full of fat, not much meat. The wait was pretty long for the empanada and they didn't give a heads up that it would be a little while before it was ready. If I had known, I would've just bought another patty. read more

Great place for reasonably priced grab and go lunch. It's a bit small and cramped but service is fast and friendly. The patties are stuffed full and large. Most are $4. First of all I hate giving bad reviews because I'm all about positive vibes. However I was so excited to try this place out being that it always constantly showing up on my Instagram. I decided to take my daughter with me whom is 14 years old and she was excited as well until the lady at the register had us waiting unnecessarily while she restocked items and served other customer. After having us wait long for our food which was the Mac & oxtail loaded pattie and the pizza pattie along with the ackee and saw fish empanada, and a small pineapple and ginger drink she had the audacity to come ask me was my child special needs and how her nephew is too however her child is normal. She then tried to clean it up by saying people with special needs are so smart and shared a joke about something her nephew said about his mom. Honestly it was offensive to my kid she was embarrassed and immediately turned her back to her. There was no need to say any of those things at all and my experience here was definitely ruined by the long wait and definitely the special needs comment. As a business unless I shared this information there was no need for her to get personal and upset my kid or me by the experience.
