I hired Puli Contractors to build a 10-12-foot retaining wall in my backyard and highly recommend them. Prior to choosing Puli, I spoke with several contractors to get quotes. The process was frustrating--some provided quotes that later included hidden fees, and others claimed to be licensed but were not when I checked. Faleaka "Aka" Green, the owner of Puli Contractors, was honest and upfront about her pricing and schedule. She patiently answered all my questions and walked me through the entire process, from permitting to construction. She helped expedite my permit by following up with DPP frequently, and even brought on a permit router to track its status and assist with paperwork after the previous router stopped responding. Aka's family-owned business is made up of hardworking, friendly workers who we treated like family while they worked on the wall. Whenever I had questions, Aka responded promptly. The team also installed a gutter drainage system and coordinated with another contractor to pour concrete around the house for a sidewalk. We hired Puli to build our moss rock wall, and I'm extremely glad we went with them. Aka, our main point of contact, was on point through the entire process--planning, quoting, building, and even after the wall was already up. She actually listens, stays responsive, and makes communication easy from start to finish (and beyond). Top tier craftsmanship IMO. People like to say "all rock walls look the same," but once you're the one writing the check, you start noticing the details--how the stones fit, the symmetry, the flow, the joints. Puli's work stands out. Our wall legitimately looks like one of the nicest one on the street (they built a lot on our street). Yes, the process took a while-- they aren't busy cuz they're shitty. My advice: if you want them, put down the deposit to secure your spot. There will be changes along the way (that's just how these projects go), but Aka was flexible, accommodating, and fair every time we adjusted the scope. Highly recommend. Last year I had moved in to Koa Ridge and was looking to build a retaining wall and surrounding rock walls for my property. I had no clue where to start so I contacted numerous contractors for estimates. After meeting with them, I still felt uneasy about the project and felt they didn't offer much assistance / insight on the permitting process. From the recommendation of my neighbor, Faleaka "Aka" from Puli Contractors came over right away to provide an estimate. From the start, Aka was never pushy and always referred to doing what's best for the customer. She also took the time to explain the process from start to finish and explained the permitting process which is the most difficult part. I knew that Puli was the way to go. Aka's team worked very hard on my project and showed a lot of respect to my family while working. After they finished working for the day, they took the time to clean up as best they could by sweeping the dirt, freeing up the driveway etc. During the whole process, Aka had always been prompt to respond to my calls/texts to address any questions or concerns. We reside at Koa Ridge, a new development by Castle and Cooke of Hawaii. At the time of our purchase, we were informed it would require owners to install their own "property walls". With this in mind, we decided to view existing walls on properties within our development to gather ideas, type/materials of walls, height, design, etc. Upon our move into our just completed home, we noticed several homes over where a moss rock wall was being built by Puli Contractors. Therefore, we approached Ms. "Aka" Green, owner of Puli Contractors, a licensed contractor for information, i.e., height, type, and most importantly the estimated cost. After much discussion and with limited funding, we decided to have them build a 6-foot moss rock wall, surrounding the rear as well as both sides of our home and a 30-inch wall on both sides of our driveway. She was very versed in our HOA's height and width limitations. At that time, we discussed having the concrete sidewalk poured surrounding our dwelling. Ms. Green did encourage us to view the rock walls they had done in the earlier phase of Koa Ridge that was very helpful in making our decision to pursue Puli Contractors for our project. Working with Ms. Green throughout our project was a pleasure. She stuck by her estimates, handled our permitting process, answered our calls and responded to our questions and messages on a timely basis. During the construction period, we were informed that this business was family-owned and operated. Being a family business and very labor intensive, all workers knew their place of performance in getting the job done. At each days end, the workers ensured a thorough clean up was done at the site. We would see the workers on a daily basis and they were always very friendly. To this day, they acknowledge us with a wave and a smile as they work on other projects within the community.
