Fernando did a great job installing the Regency Fireplace I bought from Berkeley Heat (aka Berkeley Tubmakers). His price was fair and the craftsmanship was utterly perfect - see photos I am adding. Gives you an idea of the level of detail work he can do. I did have to do some phone and email follow-ups myself but Fernando showed up on time on install day and did the job perfectly. Fernando offered to run the gas line plumbing for me but was not familiar with permitting in SF - so I had my own plumber install a gas line, with SF permit, to the exact location Fernando specified. (And boy was it exact - had we been off by a few inches the new insert would not have fit.) Then Fernando installed the insert itself. There was a slight miscommunication about what was included in the bid. I thought a custom metal shield to protect the wood mantel was included but it wasn't - turns out this was referring to other protection inside the old firebox - but Fernando agreed to do a change order on the spot for what I considered a very fair price literally less than 5% of the original bid. Situations like this are a game of chicken - it's highly unlikely I wanted to hire another metalworker before I could use the new fireplace. So it speaks to Fernando's character that he charged such a small fee for the extra work. So I tipped him heavily on the change order and considered it a win. Would definitely hire him again for a similar job. FYI these inserts WILL likely change how your existing wood burning fireplace chimney looks. I didn't love the new look at first but it has grown on me. Slightly steampunk. read more

I am very pleased with Fernando's work and by his team. I selected his services because he appears to be specialized in fireplaces and he demonstrated his skills and experiences refacing mine. The team had experiences with masonry, drywall, paint, electricity, etc. They adjusted the bricks on the fireplace, did the new framing for the drywall, patched and painted to hid any evidence of the remodel. The communication with Fernando was very clear and he was very responsive. The team came everyday for the whole day from 9 to 5pm. They were very respectful of the property and protected the working area daily. I think they worked together for sometimes and Fernando himself was there 70-80% of the time and he also helped me to find decorative solutions for the fireplace. read more

We hired Fernando to install our fireplace and redo the surround per the recommendation of Berkeley Heat. We had a very good experience with Fernando and his team. They were clean, courteous, and communication was great. I especially appreciated Fernando's attention to detail. I had given him a photo of what I wanted the fireplace to look like when it was done, and at the beginning of the job he brought up several questions about how the materials could transition from one to the other, and different ways to finish and detail the job. During the project he was flexible and communicative, and went out of his way to get the right materials at the right price, so the project could look the best and stay within budget. He also communicated with Berkeley heat about additional requests such as a WI-FI dongle so we can operate the fireplace with our phones, and a heat deflector so the mantel could come out a little bit further from the wall. Fernando Pulido was referred to me by Berkeley Heat to install a fireplace insert in our existing fireplace. Fernando returned my call promptly and came out within a couple of days to look at the fireplace. It was in a corner and I was not convinced an insert would work, but he explained in deail the process of installation, including demolition, power, gas, the two flues in the chimney, the cap, and the unit. He sent his estimate the next day and we decided to order the unit. When the unit came in Fernando scheduled the installation within 2 weeks. The installation took 3 days as he estimated and each day he and his brothers were prompt in their arrival at 9:30. They covered everything in the living room so it wouldn't get dusty and worked within a containment for the demolition. When the installation was complete he patiently explained how the unit worked and reviewed all the parts and pieces. I called about a chimney cap replacement and Fernando came to measure right away. I really appreciated the speed and efficiency. We discussed what color I wanted the cap to be and that it would be a custom fabrication. We agreed on a price $900 foot the cap and installation. About a week later, I contacted him again to check in on the progress of the fabrication. It was supposed to be done by then. He didn't say if it had been made (I think it hadn't) and gave no timeline, but said the price had gone up to $1100. I said no deal. If it had been $1100 from the beginning, it would have been fine. This is how much I ended up paying so it was fair. However, there was a loss of trust. Additional info: Salvador, his brother, moved out of state last year and is no longer with this business, so a lot of the older reviews are for work that he did or they did together. read more

I was searching several days to get a company to come service my Napoleon gas insert. It was cutting off and had a smell. Other companies either didn't service the area or they couldn't come for a month, or didn't return my call at all. This company returned my call the same day and 2 days later I had an appointment. Salvador (I hope I'm spelling his name right) was knowledgeable, and went way beyond by showing me the parts of the fireplace and how I could arrange it to suit my needs and lower the blower to save energy. He cleaned my insert showing me the white stuff that was possibly causing the smell, he straighten the fireplace door so it fastened properly, showed why it was shutting off. Fernando and Salvador just installed gas log sets into our two existing fireplaces. In order to do so, they had to run the gas line from where the line came out of the house to the two chimney areas, and then into the fireplaces. For one of the fireplaces, the line had to come through a built-in cabinet that is next to the fireplace, and then into the side of the fireplace. They were on time, very pleasant, worked efficiently, and didn't leave any mess behind. We are very happy with the work they did and with our gas fireplaces and we highly recommend them! read more
