    Living room and fireplace remodel

We hired Gilor Remodeling Group after interviewing 6 contractors. Our scope of work included a full kitchen and bathroom remodel, which included removing walls. We also smoothed and painted all walls (level 4) and installed new hardwood floors throughout the entire house. We also did some additional work to remodel our fireplace. We spent several hours with each contractor. In the end, we picked Gilor because we really liked the project manager / founder Or Haim, who personally managed the project and had significantly more experience than the other project managers we met. Kitchen Remodel We had a grounds up kitchen remodel. Before any work began, they worked closely with our architect to fully understand the plans before execution -- which made a huge difference. When it came to the structural work, they made sure to do it right. In fact, when our kitchen designer came to take measurements, she commented that it was clear our contractor knew exactly what he was doing and had put in a proper structural support and framing. This was critical because we were installing posts and load-bearing beams that were recessed and flush. They were meticulous in laying out the electrical and re-routing all the plumbing -- gas lines, water lines, you name it. They also added additional blocking to accommodate our cabinet layouts and appliance dimensions before sheet-rocking the kitchen. They spoke with our kitchen designer to verify the height at which our wall cabinets would be hung and made sure blocking was there and that there would be no interference with electrical or plumbing. They were reading the dimensions of all the appliances before installing cabinets so that the spacing was exact. Our counter-depth fridge fit in flush with the cabinets. On top of that, they proactively adjusted the kitchen window height because they pre-planned and knew it would become an issue down the road -- our countertop would have ended up higher than the window sill if they hadn't caught it. That kind of foresight is rare and saved us from a costly fix later. We had many requirements and high-end finishes that required extra care and expertise to install: recessed outlets, a touch-enabled faucet, an in-line attic vent hood blower, a microwave drawer, a reverse osmosis water system, smart dimmers, and Fittes/Aria vents. You really need a contractor who knows his stuff for this kind of work, because the last thing you want is an incorrect installation that ends up costing you more money. Our countertops were beautiful, and they really elevated it by doing seamless 2-inch thick bullnose w/ miter edges and waterfalls for our kitchen island. We also used countertops as the kitchen backsplash from counter to ceiling, which really gave it a clean finished look. It's these smaller things you don't think about where they do an amazing job and really differentiates your kitchen vs. others that just go through the standard run-of-mill remodels. Bathroom Remodel Our bathroom was equally demanding. We went with ultra-large 48-inch tiles, miter edges with epoxy in the shampoo niche (rather than standard metal edges), a linear shower drain, a smart toilet, a floating vanity, and relocated plumbing lines. Everything was executed with precision and care, and the finished result looks stunning. Fireplace Remodel We had original brick fireplace that was fairly dated. So the team covered it in porcelain slabs (10ft slabs) for a modern look. It was mitered and therefore had no seams. They also replaced the aging gas line and installed a remote controlled gas fireplace that would fit into the existing space. Craftsmanship & Integrity Our remodel went on longer than we expected (7 months), but the quality was outstanding. Gilor Group did not disappoint. Their team on-site -- Jesus, Gilbert, Joel, and others -- all did an amazing job. They were easy to communicate with. They were also meticulous about cleaning up the job site every day. I also want to highlight Gilor's fabricator and hardwood floor installer, which truly made them a one-stop shop for us. We had many waterfalls in our kitchen, and the fabricator did an incredible job -- the seams were literally invisible. The hardwood floor installation was also beautifully done. We used ultra-wide floors (9.5 inches), which are more difficult to install (can't just use nails). I know the installation was done right because we used a laser to check the lines and the floors were straight across a 40 ft length. If you're looking for a contractor group that you can trust to work independently, deliver quality work, and have experienced project managers on-site daily -- look no further. We are so grateful for the entire Gilor team and couldn't be happier with how our home turned out. We would work with Gilor Group again in a heartbeat and highly recommend them. Our pictures speak for themselves.

We were forced to do a remodel in the kitchen after a tenant had a fire in the kitchen. We had over 7 contractors give us bids. Which was a chore and very educational. Some of them so full of themselves with the outrageous prices. Gilor and one other contractor had very close bids... we choose Gilor because Or Haim was very present, kind and real. We are so glad we made this choice. His foreman Jesus was the best and they treated our home like it was their own. We are very glad we choose Gilor and highly recommend them. The kitchen was a small galley kitchen - very narrow. We had Gilor knock down a wall and put in pony wall. They were very helpful in assisitng us to figure out the right layout. They were patient with the changes we made to build our dream kitchen. We also decided to update the bathroom with a full remodel! New back deck, new windows, front and back door and garage door. Or Haim and Jesus were fantastic partners in every step of each project. They re-plastered all the walls in the house and painted them... installed recessed lighting in 4 rooms! When we were done - it was a brand new home. We highly recommend Gilor and would use them again! Thanks Or Haim and Jesus !

    Bathroom remodel almost complete.

Gilor Remodeling transformed my small bathroom into a luxurious space with very high quality workmanship and attention to detail. They installed all new finishes, removed the tub and tiled the shower, fortified the sub floor, installed new walls, toilet, vanity, medicine cabinet, hardware and paint. They secured the permit and scheduled the inspections. Easy communication and very good service. The project cost was an excellent value.

We reached out to Gilor and his team to move our office's very large and heavy conference table, which came with a heavy quartz top. This wasn't a straightforward job; nobody knew how the table was brought in and we eventually realized this table was a permanent install that required a stone fabricator and multiple movers. It was difficult to finding a company willing to tackle this project because there were so many unknowns, and I was rejected by several companies before connecting with Gilor. Gilor and his team were professional, honest, and demonstrated commitment to the project that truly exceeded my expectations. They made the entire experience as seamless and stress-free as possible and ensured everything was completed to the highest standard. They accommodated me in every step of the process, and I am very grateful for their work. Furthermore, Gilor and his team managed to stay within our initial budget, which was an added bonus. If you're looking for a reliable, professional, and skilled team to handle a tricky move, I can't recommend Gilor and his team highly enough. They truly go above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction!

I wanted a kitchen upgrade to be done within a 3 week time window (when my wife would be gone on a trip). The job: quartz countertop, tiled backsplash, "floating" 4' long shelf, new double sink & faucet; dual fuel commercial grade range with hood (which required running 2 electrical lines--a 110 & a 220); recessed LED lighting and repainting the room (which required a great deal of cosmetic prep work). I got bids from 3 companies that could do the work in that time frame. I usually don't go with the lowest bidder, but I did in this case. Or Heim (co-owner/project manager) is calm, knowledgeable, personable, flexible and reassuring-- he sold me on Gilor. (Reps from the other two companies were more anxiety provoking--talking about possible problems (asbestos removal?, the need for an entire electrical service up-grade?, etc.) that would drive the total cost through the roof. Or Heim spent a lot of time running down materials & presenting us with options which saved us a ton of work (when we did a bathroom re-model a few years ago, the project manager left us to do all the materials choosing/purchasing on our own.) Or Heim even managed to find a 40" hood made in Italy (very non-standard size in the USA ). The crew (Jesus & Gilbert) were pros--they knew their stuff & could solve problems/glitches that arose in stride with no histrionics. (e.g., it took a couple days to get the hood working--they traced the problem to an internal wiring issue that was screwed up by the manufacturer; unrelated to the hood difficulty, a previous contractor had botched installing an electrical sub-panel--it had to be completely re-wired.) They would have finished on time if it weren't for the hood & sub-panel setbacks. A big shout out to Jesus & Gilbert who worked a Saturday trying to trouble shoot the hood. I'm pleased, my wife is pleased & we'd hire Gilor (Gil + Or--the first names of the co-owners) in a nano-second for any future projects.

The Simple builders team (Gil, Haim, Jesus among others) exceeded expectations from the initial review and quotation process through final finishing touches. They assisted in design elements and structural improvements and made custom components as they went along in addition to delivering on time and on budget. Total pros.

My project was remodeling a kitchen, and electrical upgrades to enable conversion to an induction range. After meeting with several contractors, I decided to hire Simple Builders, who had been referred by a neighbor. They had the best value quote - not the highest or the lowest - but what really gained my confidence was that Gil and his crew came out to confirm that a wall I wanted removed was not a load bearing wall, before making his proposal. My project was executed in record time, and was within budget - exceeding my expectations. The building permit process, which in Berkeley can be challenging, was smooth and all inspections passed as scheduled. Upgrading the electrical power to enable the induction range was a challenge. Initially, before the project began, Gil explained to me various ways this could be done and what the codes required. The team had to redo the wiring in several places - which required opening the ceilings in the laundry room and hallways. It was a lot of work but came in on budget and the impacted areas were left looking new! Or, the Project Manager, was regularly on site and in regular communication with me, always checking to see that things were done to my satisfaction. When I had questions or was confused about something, he was immediately responsive, including video-calling when I was out of town and the crew had a question about a small detail. The construction crew were all very professional and great at their crafts. Simple Builders went above and beyond to make sure that the project looked great and functioned well, including painting areas that I hadn't foreseen would need to be addressed. I would definitely use Simple Builders again and give 5 stars for their outstanding service.

There have been multiple unresolved issues with the quality of work and follow-through. One example is an LED light that continues to flicker. It has been more than six months, with many calls and text messages, but the issue still has not been fixed. Another example is damage to our garage cabinet, where a hole was created during the work. We are still waiting for this to be repaired as well. Overall, the lack of timely resolution and poor communication after the project has been extremely frustrating.

Overall, the project went well, and we're happy with the final results. Bryan, our foreman, was a strong asset to the project. Even though he was managing multiple jobs at the same time, his responsiveness and willingness to go out of his way to address our concerns made a big difference. Because we were home throughout the process, we were able to catch issues early and communicate them directly to Bryan, who consistently followed through to resolve them. What Went Well: * The tile and flooring subcontractors were excellent - their craftsmanship and attention to detail truly stood out. * Bryan, our foreman, was responsive to texts and phone calls, listened to our concerns, and made sure they were addressed. He even designed a bi-fold closet door for us, and helped pick up all the material to build it. * Bryan also took the initiative to handle several unfinished items himself, which we really appreciated. * The post-build cleaners were top-notch and left the space in pristine condition. * Throughout the project, everyone we interacted with was professional, courteous, and conscientious. There were no conflicts or issues, which made the experience comfortable for us. Areas for Improvement: * The timeline was a pain point. While we were originally told the project would take 6-8 weeks, it ended up stretching to 12 weeks. * The design process fell short of expectations. Because Prime's in-house designers weren't available, our design work was outsourced. We only received a full design package for the master bathroom. As a result, we ended up creating our own renderings for the other rooms to help communicate our vision to the team. That said, we were very happy with the design and material selections for the master bathroom they did complete. We just wish the same level of attention and design support had been provided for the rest of the project. * At times, resource availability was limited, likely due to workers being assigned to multiple jobs. This led to workflow inefficiencies and delays. Toward the end of our renovation, our foreman Bryan had to personally step in to complete several tasks, such as installing faucets, shelving, and baseboards. He managed to get it done in between site visits and meetings, which we appreciated, but it also highlighted a lack of available crew to close out the project. Despite these few challenges, the quality of the work met our expectations. We appreciated the team's effort and the final outcome.

I know hiring a contractor is scary. There's a lot involved and they'll be in your house for an indeterminate amount of time which makes it really important to hire someone you can trust. Tom came out to provide an estimate for our project. He was the only one of the contractors I called that really investigated the existing condtions and repair based on what he could see and his own knowledge. He spent over an hour at the initial call making sure he didn't miss anything and talked through the potential issues and repair. This was his time spent not knowing whether or not we'd hire him. He was also the only contractor to tell me he would only do the work with a permit. Whether or not you think one is needed, just knowing that he wasn't afraid of the permitting or inspection process was a big plus to me. Always ask about permits during the interview process. He then went to his car, drafted an estimate and came back to talk to me about it. I was really impressed at this point. There wasn't any pressure from him to sign on and he encouraged me to ask questions. The estimate was well defined and a bit higher than another bid, but from what I saw I thought it would be worth it. After we signed on, he gave a rough schedule and starting time and said they stay on the job until it's done. We had a list of items to buy and he helped us out there too. He was in constant communications and always responded, even on weekends. Before the work begins, it is pretty easy to promise things to the client while telling your crew something else. When the work actually started, Jesus was our foreman and true to their word, he stayed on the project until completed. They were extremely respectful of our home, carefully protected things and kept the work area clean. During demolition, they found some unforseen things, but took care of it without issue. There were times when they could've easily walked through our house to talk to us, but instead opted to ring the door bell to respect our space. The construction went smoothly and Tom would visit and communicate frequently. He took care of the inspections as well without issue and some other things without charging us, which I appreciated. At the end of the project, we had some concern about the slope of our deck above the office. Tom and his crew came out and fixed it and didn't even mention the final payment until we were happy. Our remodelled office looks amazing. I'd gladly recommend LB Construction for anyone looking for a contractor and will contact them again in the future.

I was definitely persuaded by these reviews - and now will question every business that has 5 star reviews. Do your homework and don't be fooled. Project took much longer than what it should have because they were disorganized and would forget certain things (the foreman would even admit that the PM should have told me certain things!) that I would have imagined a contractor had down pat in terms of sequencing. They use some subcontractors and you are at the mercy of their schedules. They just are not organized (you will do a lot of the reminding, checking in, following up, and certain things still may not happen). They failed inspections meaning more cost (it is their job to pass these! It says this in any contract!) If it seemed as though I was questioning something, the PM got defensive and sometimes unprofessional, gaslighting me in a very aggressive manner. I saved the communication, in fact. The people I worked with directly were young and it showed in the almost-too-casual style of communication and lack of professionalism. I surrendered towards the end and just wanted the project done and everyone gone. I feel completely foolish that I went with the significantly higher estimate thinking it would offer a smooth, superior experience. The actual people who did the work worked hard though and did nice work - hence the two stars. But at the end of the day, it's actually hard to enjoy the work as I am reminded by the months of bad experiences - up to the very end. You can find more experienced contractors out there for equal quality of workmanship and for a more competitive price. I am using a different contractor now for other work at the property - it's a 180 degree difference - they have a dedicated team for my project, meaning time to completion is more accurate and on time; they have a dedicated person to procure the finishes and fixtures, not myself; they are way more organized and even provided me a timeline of what to expect and communicate with me what time they are showing up and what progress was made that day (!!); they are bringing a truly expert eye with attention to detail that ELEVATES the space and are teaching me to ask things I didn't even know I should KNOW to ask; and most importantly, I feel truly comfortable asking questions without defensiveness and aggressive steamrolling in their answers. I received none of this level of care or expertise with MHR, and I want you to know that you should expect these things!!!

His team is resourceful and they did not generate excessive work to add cost. For our kitchen / laundry facelift, we updated the flooring, backsplash, lighting, and reconfigured our laundry area. George's crew helped to side vent the dryer which the big box store was unable to do. George gave valuable input on our bathroom design to optimize the small space. He had suggestions for an in-wall toilet, a corner sink, window ledge niche, and talked us out of a doorless shower (thank you!). He knows small spaces very well and was able to place the fixtures in their best locations. George would give us a heads up on our requests that were going to cost more than ~1k. He had some subcontractors come in to help with varying degrees of quality and cleanliness. We are glad he managed the plumbing contractor who had to come back 3 times. His paint jobs varied quite a bit in consistency depending on who was painting. The best part of working with George was that we were expecting our first child, and he worked very hard to complete the project before her due date. George helped us with a complete remodel for our home in Berkeley. He and his crew (Oni, Enrique,…read moreMarvin, Wuillian) are extremely smart, honest, professional and creative. His pricing is also reasonable and transparent. We started with an awkward layout (even no room for fridge in the kitchen!) and ended with a tastefully transformed home: open, modern and feels much more spacious than before. George is patient, transparent, detail oriented (with a special eye for safety!) and always a clever problem solver on behalf of his clients. What he did for our project was too much to list, but I'm attaching a few photos where the end results can speak for itself! Contractors like George is hard to come by and highly sought after in the current environment, we would recommend him to any one who values craftsmanship and quality!
