My home is an upper unit of a 2 unit, 115 year old building in the Castro. You can see from the photos below that Gregory did a beautiful professional job on my project, working with the architect/designer who had suggested the built-ins, and responding to my particular requests. Fitting new cabinetry into an old wooden building required a lot of customization during installation, and Gregory was definitely up to the task - as mentioned by other reviewers he is easy to work with, creative, flexible, with an "incredible eye." He did all the installation and finishing himself (with a helper). To be fair, it took Gregory longer than he had estimated to make and install the cabinetry, but it was definitely worth the wait and he was very responsive and obliging throughout the process. The quality and value were top notch; the cost was about 50-60% that of the estimates I received from online cabinetry firms I contacted. Definitely a 5 star experience - thank you Gregory!

He is so incredibly easy to work with, creative, flexible, and has an incredible eye. He got a feel for our taste and made the benches fit aesthetically in our space seamlessly. It was not an easy thing to install either with the angles of the apartment. We could could tell it required a lot of skill and patience. We cannot imagine our space without them now. The bookcases on each side of the center chest piece was his idea too and it was such a clever use of space and it looks great. In the initial meeting with Project Manager Yves, he walked me through the process and answered my many questions. This was all very helpful as I have never done a kitchen reno before, and Yves demonstrated his knowledge and "can do" attitude. Yves also mentioned that the crew working on my kitchen would be dedicated to my project until it was done, a big plus in my opinion. After this meeting I felt reasonably confident that A2Z Remodeling was a good choice. Prior to contacting A2Z I had gotten quotes from a few cabinet makers, thinking that A2Z would only provide general contractor services. But A2Z also has a cabinet design service, so they provided a quote. The design created by A2Z's designer, Marissa, was great so I had no concerns there. However, the quote was less pricey than all the other quotes and I then spent lots of time researching cabinet construction, trying (with limited success) to compare the quality of the materials used in the different bids. A2Z's cabinet supplier is Kraftview out of San Leandro, and ultimately, I went to their showroom in San Leandro to inspect the cabinets in person which and that alleviated all my concerns, they looked great and were very high quality (plywood construction, soft close, full extension drawers, etc.). I am very happy I chose A2Z to supply the cabinetry, for two big reasons: 1) Their supplier, Kraftview, is local, so fast turnaround. Some of the other quotes were for cabinets manufactured overseas and it would take months to get them. And if there were any problems, months to get replacements. And indeed, there was a couple problems with cabinets that needed correction and A2Z was able to get things fixed with only a small delay to the project. 2) A2Z was fully responsible for the cabinets: They took the measurements, did the design, ordered them, and installed them. If there were any problems or unexpected issues they took care of it. Whereas if another company was supplying the cabinets I expect I would have had been a lot more involved in resolving issues. One example is that when the demolition of the old kitchen was done, there was an unexpected pipe sticking out of the wall which we had not accounted for in the cabinet design, A2Z took care of it. Another example is that one of the cabinet fronts had some slight damage on it and A2Z had it replaced, I didn't even know about that until Yves mentioned it after the fact. The cabinet design process went really well. Marissa was fantastic to work with. Her design was great out of the gate and she was very open to iteration, mainly me changing little nitpicky things, then sometimes realizing it was a bad idea and changing it back. I visited their showroom in Oakland many times and it was really nice to be able to talk things over in person with her, and she gave me a ton of great suggestions. The crew working on the job were top notch. As promised, it was the same crew for the entire time and they took care of everything: Demolition, Plumbing, Electrical, Inspections, Floor Installation, Cabinet Installation, Appliance Installation, Painting, Lighting. They were careful to keep things clean and not damage floor, doors or anything. They abided by the HOA rules, and I received no complaints from my neighbors. Along the way there were small hiccups and bumps, but nothing major and A2Z would take care of it. One example was that some of the cabinets arrived missing the grooves needed to install the LED lights, there were a few options on how to proceed and I thought we could make one of the lesser options works, but Yves convinced me that we shouldn't take shortcuts and we took them back to the factory to get properly fixed. Yves and the crew were very focused on making the whole process as smooth as possible and making sure I was happy with the results. Highly recommended!

We hired Alfonso and his team to tile our kitchen floor and they were AMAZING: hard working,…read morepatient, meticulous perfectionists. They took their time to make sure everything was done right. The results speak for themselves. Our original kitchen floor was creaky, not level, and covered with fake wood, vinyl boards that weren't wearing well. When they pulled up the flooring, they found the subfloor was made with toxic exterior plywood boards laid over the old joists, so they had to rebuild the subfloor entirely from scratch. Alfonso gave us a choice of either laying cement boards over the existing floor (cheaper but would have raised the floor ¼" higher than the adjacent room's floor), or reinforcing the joists with stringers and lowering the subfloor, to make it level with the other room and strengthen the floor (a bit more but more polished looking). We appreciated having a choice that was budget conscious, but chose to go with the flush option. The added cost was reasonable for this unexpected work, and his team worked very hard to get it done quickly and efficiently, so they could still deliver on time. When we were indecisive about grout color, Alfonso made mockup samples of a few colors so we could see the end result more easily and was very patient and accommodating as we waffled our way through it, offering his expert opinion at every turn. The original estimate for the project was 4-6 days, and even with losing a few hours to an unexpected gas leak and the need to detour to rebuild the subfloor (literally improving our home from the inside out), they still finished on time and did a truly fantastic job. The work is exceptional, better than we could even have imagined or hoped. On top of all the obvious skill and pride in their work, Alfonso's team is among the most conscientious, hardworking crews we've ever worked with. Alfonso is friendly, warm, and communicative and made sure we knew what to expect at every stage of the project, frequently texting me with updates and talking with me onsite. His communication (and his assistant Maria!) was invaluable. We didn't move out during the work and were onsite every day so we saw up close how focused and professional they were. They made every effort to protect our other floors and to minimize dust and disruption. They cleaned up spotlessly at the end of every day (so you would hardly have known they were there). They arrived every day at 8 a.m. on the dot and worked steadily with just a lunch break through to 4:30/5. His crew was dedicated, respectful, kind, friendly, and hard working the whole time they were here. We knew we were in good hands. Of all the bids we got, Alfonso's was one of the more expensive, but it was also the most comprehensive -- including everything from removing and reinstalling appliances and baseboards, demolition and haul away, leveling the floor, laying the tile, waterproofing, sealing the grout, and cleaning up meticulously every day. Alfonso's work--given its exceptionally high quality--is absolutely worth it. Some of the other installers we talked to didn't include these end-to-end services in their costs, and it was worth every penny to have the project be handled by such professionals from start to finish. Another contractor couldn't start until two weeks later. Alex made a site visit and was very personable. With the lead time, we chose Alex. Right when we chose him, he wanted to start that day! I said OK. That afternoon the demolition began. In two weeks he completed the job. He will work around your schedule. We had a family incident and needed to push back the work a day. We also had to wait a few days for the faucet to be delivered. The hours are up to you. We were OK with his team working into the late evening to get the job done because we were down a bathroom. Vitali and Alex work really really hard and long hours. There were some up sale items, but we picked which ones we wanted. Our vanity was in bad shape; so we updated the vanity, sink, backsplash and faucet. Alex quoted us a great price and offered to do tile flooring which would have made the bathroom even nicer, but we decided that the flooring would be fine. Maybe save that for the next remodel. Going through any type of remodel or home update is emotional and risky. We did a home remodel years back and that's when we learned you can really only choose two of the three: quality, cost, or speed. With Alex we were able to get close to all three. Obviously your home is very dear, and there are small little things that you can sweat over. Your home will never be perfect. Not a year goes by without some work that needs to be done to my home. Things get old and break down. There are many things that I would do over, but everyday I go into my newly updated bathroom and smile.
