We had a leak in our office from the roof/deck above that I had been dreading fixing for a long time. Don't be like me and make sure you get those things fixed before they get worse. I know hiring a contractor is scary. There's a lot involved and they'll be in your house for an indeterminate amount of time which makes it really important to hire someone you can trust. Tom came out to provide an estimate for our project. He was the only one of the contractors I called that really investigated the existing condtions and repair based on what he could see and his own knowledge. He spent over an hour at the initial call making sure he didn't miss anything and talked through the potential issues and repair. This was his time spent not knowing whether or not we'd hire him. He was also the only contractor to tell me he would only do the work with a permit. Whether or not you think one is needed, just knowing that he wasn't afraid of the permitting or inspection process was a big plus to me. Always ask about permits during the interview process. He then went to his car, drafted an estimate and came back to talk to me about it. I was really impressed at this point. There wasn't any pressure from him to sign on and he encouraged me to ask questions. The estimate was well defined and a bit higher than another bid, but from what I saw I thought it would be worth it. After we signed on, he gave a rough schedule and starting time and said they stay on the job until it's done. We had a list of items to buy and he helped us out there too. He was in constant communications and always responded, even on weekends. Before the work begins, it is pretty easy to promise things to the client while telling your crew something else. When the work actually started, Jesus was our foreman and true to their word, he stayed on the project until completed. They were extremely respectful of our home, carefully protected things and kept the work area clean. During demolition, they found some unforseen things, but took care of it without issue. There were times when they could've easily walked through our house to talk to us, but instead opted to ring the door bell to respect our space. The construction went smoothly and Tom would visit and communicate frequently. He took care of the inspections as well without issue and some other things without charging us, which I appreciated. At the end of the project, we had some concern about the slope of our deck above the office. Tom and his crew came out and fixed it and didn't even mention the final payment until we were happy. Where do I begin? Adi is someone you want on your team. I wish I could take him with me to work or everywhere in my life really. The entire LB Construction team is amazing. They are respectful, humorous, kind, with an impeccable work ethic. Adi and his team worked on our penthouse in a Lake Merritt condominium. They had no problems with us recommending revisions to their proposed contract. It was a big construction project, and required a lot of creative problem solving to adhere to the HOA CC&Rs. Adi and his team had no problems dealing with our HOA and always went above and beyond with our/their requests without any complaints and gripes (even when it was deserved). They helped with architectural requests, permitting, design support, demolition, framing, drywall, flooring, electrical, plumbing, for a renovation of three bedrooms, living room, dining room, and kitchen including two fireplaces. They provided us with several great options for materials within budget. No challenge was too great for them and they never ran away. When we needed them to make final touches they made adjustments. They deep cleaned our place when it was done. Adi was always upfront about the scope, schedule, and budget so nothing felt like a surprise or a money grab. We highly recommend LB Construction and our Project Manager, Adi Baron. We did a condo bathroom reno with a tub conversion to shower. Adi provided our second quote but we thought we should be diligent and seek out others - turns out we didn't need to. LB's pricing was very competitive. Several contractors wasted our time and didn't even bother to show up to provide a quote, even after aggressively trying to set up appointments with us. Very quickly, we appreciated Adi's responsiveness and thoroughness. He addressed all our concerns, guided us through the processes we would be going through (concept, permits, materials, and actual construction). Adi and LB's office staff were patient with us as we handled several administrative requirements and delays in dealing with our HOA (including various insurance requirements which involved some back and forth). Once work started, we had a dedicated crew that Adi oversaw throughout our project. The crew (Jesus, Luis, Jose, and Roberto) was trustworthy and respectful of our project and property. We are in a high-rise, which posed several logistical challenges, but the crew handled them with flexibility and a can-do attitude. They even had to set up a makeshift workspace in our condo garage powered by a generator. When there were issues, as will be the case with any project, Adi and crew lead Jose ensured our concerns were heard and addressed. We even had a follow-up item several months after they completed the project that we weren't sure how to address (buildup on tile grouting due to everyday use). Jose came by and explained the issue, fixed things up, and taught us how to address it going forward. The follow-up was handled with the same professionalism and quality service we came to expect. New bathroom addition completed. The quality of the work was good but I expected better...the rough-in plumbing wasn't executed to expectations. I don't know if the job was underbid but I felt like the project manager was playing "catch-up" and trying to run up charges for "change orders' excessively. I felt like I was being "shaken-down" a bit. The 4th of July yearly discount wasn't mentioned and that would have been nice if that had been applied. Roberto did very good work but one man cannot master all trades. The bathroom tile work was average. Several things were not completed to the highest level. Again, I expected better. The shower door was delivered and sat in my driveway for a week before they returned to install it. Maybe my expectations were too high. I did not enjoy working with my project manager but that could just be due to a personality mismatch and my own shortcomings. He did some "extras" at no charge but then was a hard "NO" or excessively high quotes on any changes. I repainted the bathroom myself in an hour, after we picked the wrong color, to save hundreds of dollars. A $1,000 charge to stuff insulation into an already opened up ceiling was ridiculous. The project involved demolition of the old (smaller) deck, building the frame and foundation for the new deck, installing cable railings, finishing the redwood with an oil stain, and installing a new patio door. Okay, I got my bathroom, but that's where it ends! When we contacted Liran (David), he was knowledgeable about the process. We told him that we had a tenant in the house and that he would need work remotely through us. We also wanted to keep the toilet, towel racks and TP dispenser. Well, we signed the contract and work was scheduled sooner than expected. The workers were Spanish speaking and would go to my tenant asking what I wanted. He did not know and could not understand! Because there was very little oversight by Liran, the workers did what they wanted. Everything was gutted and removed. The toilet disappeared as well as the other hardware that I wanted to keep. I would then get a call from them at the store wanting me to decide on tub, then tile, then vanity etc as needed with no pre-planning. Make sure that you like Granite Expo! We were given no other choice for quartz, tub and vanity. As work progressed, we were NEVER told which days or what time that they would arrive. There were there off and on week after week. It was down to the mirror. I was asked how we wanted it cut. Guess what? The crew had installed the outlets on the back wall where the mirror goes. In addition, the light switch at the main entry door was covered over and relocated to the back wall. I pointed out the issues to Lian and he had them corrected. Finally I get a text from Liran stating that the job would be finished in a day. My tenant sent photos, and I noticed no shower door. I texted him 3 times and he would not acknowledge the omission. Why would you leave the tub open! Then I noticed that the medicine cabinet was gone and had been plastered over. It was clear to me that Liran had little idea what was going on with my job. He did finally have someone out to install the shower door and medicine cabinet. The 4 to 5 week job became 9 weeks. Finally they are out of the house! We visited our completed bathroom and noticed there were no towel racks or toilet paper dispenser. How disappointing... There seemed to be no end to the little surprises. In a nutshell, there was very little communication, very little coordination with a work crew that couldn't speak English and very little oversight of that crew by Liran. But, the bathroom does look nice. The only reason for the 3 stars is that when I told Liran that I was not happy with something, he did have it corrected. I do have work in another bathroom, but will not subject myself to this again. read more

Having interviewed two companies of comparable quality reviews, I selected LB Construction, and am so happy that I did. My projects included an almost full "gut" job of my condo bathroom. Also, I had my kitchen countertops and backsplash upgraded and replaced all appliances. (Photos below) I am thrilled with how beautifully everything turned out and am thoroughly enjoying my new renovations. It is like a new condo! Project Manager Adi did a wonderful and efficient job managing all the projects. I contacted LB to remove a load bearing wall to merge the kitchen and dining areas, expand the peninsula, install cabinets, pendant lights & electrical outlets. Dan Peretz understood the ask and offered a reasonable deal with timelines. He made sure the engineer plans were done for city permits and multiple inspections. During the project, he worked with several different people on his team (foreman, electricians, countertop fabricators and more) to bring them on time and helped complete the job to our satisfaction. After reading all the amazing reviews, I had high hopes for this company. The end result for our project was beautiful, which is why I gave them 4 stars. I love how it turned out. Getting to that point had its ups and downs, however. The initial crew that began working on our project was able to complete some of the work, but I lost confidence in them when they appeared to lack the necessary experience to complete the project. Luckily, the project manager quickly brought in a more experienced professional to complete the project and deliver the porch of my dreams. On another positive note, our project manager was really easy to get a hold of. He responded to any problems that came up and offered quick solutions. I appreciated that. I will say, in the beginning, I felt that I had to check in often and observe the work constantly. There were little things here and there that the original crew members missed, finishes that were hastily put back together, that needed to be redone. Liran and his team did such an amazing job remodeling our disgusting 1930s bathroom. Just looking at the photos of the old bathroom remind me how depressed I was every time I saw it. Who thought yellow and burgundy tile was a good idea?? I talked to about 5 different contractors and LB Construction was either similarly or competitively priced. They were the only ones who said they could start right away and finish before our wedding day (we reached out in February and our wedding was April 27, 2019). In addition to remodeling the bathroom, we turned the neighboring hall closet into a walk-in closet, and asked him to remove an old AC wall unit downstairs. We were told this could be completed in 4-6 weeks. The quality of work is exceptional. I truly can't express how happy this new bathroom makes me. Every time I walk by it now I smile. Liran made sure to talk us through various points of the project, let us know what our options were and what his recommendation was, and I think his professionalism shows clearly in the before and after photos. I definitely plan on using LB Construction for future projects, and my only advice is to give yourself more time than you might think you need. Our project ended up taking about 8 weeks in total--we didn't have the shower doors in before our wedding, which was a bummer because we had a few people staying with us and only one shower to use. We also had to follow up a number of times on the removal of the air conditioning unit which kept getting postponed, causing disruption with having to constantly put our cats away. We interviewed a number of contractors for our kitchen remodel when I was 7 months pregnant. During our initial meeting with David (Liran), we were impressed by his professionalism and knowledge. His quote came in second, and we decided to go with him for peace of mind, particularly because he was quite confident about the timeline, which was important to us. The crew (Flavio and Estuardo) that worked on our house were very clean, respectful, considerate and professional. I never felt like I couldn't step into the work zone for safety or health reasons. They worked hard, even on some weekends and through the holidays to meet the timeline, and they were always friendly and paid attention to the details. We got a load bearing wall taken out between the kitchen and living room and expanded the kitchen into the dining room. Outside of the permit phase, the entire project took about a month even during the holiday period, and we are so grateful to have the house ready before our baby! We are so glad that LB construction made it easy for us by being on budget and 1 week ahead of schedule. They came back even when the project was completed when we asked for final touches.
