Pulling Down the Moon was recommended by colleagues who also experienced fertility issues, one suggested massages and the other acupuncture. I decided to sign up for a massage a couple of days before my IVF transfer. While I have no proof that the massage was why our transfer was successful, I can say it helped my body and mind get ready for the process. Now that we're pregnant, the massages have been so great and the only way I can rest on my stomach these days. Supposed to help solve problems. Only added to frustration. I have a chronic injury that flared up severely over the weekend. After having my sleep interrupted and trying to figure out how to live horizontally (because both sitting and standing hurt; fun, right?), I went on the hunt for relief. Acupuncture is supposed to be really helpful and this place had great reviews so I figured I'd give it a shot. I called ahead to book an appointment and asked for the earliest available. The woman who answered was pretty friendly and found one at 10am on Sunday. She asked for some basic information and confirmed the appt. Grateful for what I expected to be forthcoming relief, I showered her in thanks. The time comes and I hobble my way to the office, grimacing with each ridiculously painful step. Things are quiet downstairs when I arrive (it is Sunday, after all) but I find the suite number and make my way upstairs in the sketchy elevator. I walk in and approach the desk to announce myself. The response I received: "Oh, hi. There was a mix-up. We actually can't take you today. We can't take new patients right now. Sorry." She says this to me as I'm standing in front of her in the office. Yes, the same woman who I spoke to on the phone who asked me questions before booking the appointment and telling me to come in. "Come in. .... Oh, glad you took the time out of your day to come here. We actually can't help you at all." So I do my best not to cuss her and hobble my butt out of there before I start screaming and destroying whatever my limited mobility would allow me to pick up. I can't speak to the actual services cuz I was never seen but I won't be back. Wasting my time is #1 on my "hell to the naw" list in addition to getting me hype about something only to disappoint. Whatever went awry - whether it's training the receptionist in the proper questions to ask/office policy, getting the computer system running faster/more efficiently, or whatever - needs to be addressed before I would ever think of returning. read more

I'm blown away by the acupuncture treatments (and herbs) I received at Pulling Down the Moon. Let me explain: My kids have all started school and I've finally been able to take a better look at my physical and emotional health. I have a lot of stress and often feel a bit anxious trying to manage my family. I have also recently dealt with awful psoriasis (itching, burning, pain) and even some arthritis in my hands. I have heavy cycles, to which I am very sensitive (think possible migraines during ovulation and two days before cycle start). I made my appointment with Christine Davis at Pulling Down the Moon in Highland Park. The parking was conveniently located and plentiful. I went into the elevator and reached the office. It was very serene. The temperature was just right and the air was clean and fresh. I appreciated not having to wait long--my appointment started on time. Christine greeted me and brought me to a room to discuss. Christine was amazing! She was so thorough with her questions. Her EMPATHY was on point and she made my anxieties melt away just a bit. She asked me some questions and did a brief examination (checked my mouth, for example, very typical for acupuncture doctors). I've never felt so cared for by a practitioner. I was truly impressed with the amount of time she spent listening to me and learning about my needs. After she took a look she told me her thoughts (including extremely helpful dietary considerations!) and explained what she would do. PRO tip-wear loose clothing that can be maneuvered around. While the facility is serene (as I mentioned above) it is not a spa! These are holistic medical treatments! She came in and offered me a warm blanket. I declined. She followed my lead nicely when I wanted to talk/ask a question/have her explain and when I needed a moment of quiet. That's a hard thing to be able to do. She did it well. Truly excellent bedside manner. The acupuncture itself was obviously not as relaxing as a 90 minute Swedish massage, but it was very comfortable. I had seen other acupuncturists as I have lived in many states. With Christine, some of the time I literally felt nothing. Maybe once or twice out of 40 did I feel a mild twinge. She was so precise and quick. Gentle also comes to mind. Guys...it was top notch. This place is a gem. She left for some time and came back to check on me...maneuvering whatever needed maneuvering. When it was over we removed the needles and all were disposed of properly. By the way, each needle came wrapped. She talked to me a bit more and that was it! Actually, we scheduled another appointment :) Do not let the fertility acupuncture Pulling Down the Moon does prevent you from coming here for any other condition that can be helped by acupuncture. I recommend Pulling Down the Moon to anyone wanting acupuncture, whether it is for stress management or allergic rhinitis or osteoarthritis (which is actually what my rheumatologist found lurking in my spine X-rays this fall)... I will continue to be a client of Christine Davis and really look forward to her being part of my treatment plan for: migraines, stress, and back pain management. One last thing: Christine is extremely knowledgeable of Chinese Medicine and herbs. She asked if I would be interested in Chinese herbs for my stress and anxiety( leading to psoriasis outbreaks). There was NO pressure at all. I purchased enough for 1.5 months. I really found that the calm variety was just what I needed. I opted for the drinkable powder. Tasted like ... maybe beets? Earthly for sure. I love beets so it was ok with me. Others may want it in a mild tea. I will be ordering that herb for as long as she will let me. Come to think of it I need to let her know! The other one I didn't take as religiously and am not sure I will reorder. I will talk to her at my next appointment to see what she thinks. Yes the treatments and herbs made a noticeable difference. Decent place, a bit hard to find at first but overall enjoyable experience. I signed up for a beginning yoga for fertility class here, which for the same amount of weeks as the prenatal yoga class, it was almost double the price which is one of the reasons why it's getting 1 less star. Both the owners have gone through infertility and that's why I'm not thrilled with the idea that they are capitalizing on the desperation of infertile woman. The class was good, it was set up with the beginning being an informative discussion and group therapy part and then the second half was easy yoga positions. The best part was meeting the other women and the friendly teacher. I would suggest this class to others for sure but remind them that this place is a business first and foremost and not to buy into the hype. read more

This review is long overdue. Pulling Down the Moon is THE place to go if you are trying to conceive, currently pregnant, or just want to regulate those female hormones naturally. The clinicians are caring, knowledgeable and compassionate, especially Lisa and Anna. I went here while I was trying to get pregnant, and then during both of my pregnancies and I trust them completely. I have tried other acupuncture clinics in Chicago, and none of them can even compare to Pulling Down the Moon. I always leave here so relaxed. This place has been really wonderful. I've used them for massage and acupuncture and everyone has been very kind, compassionate and knowledgable. I love the front area where you can drink tea and relax and would always come a few minutes early before my treatment just to zen out and read their books. No matter where you are in your "journey" If you go there regularly, they get to know you too...I've had people email me to check on me and just take a personal interest in my health. For massages, I've been to Margita and she is such a peaceful, healing presence! They have really creative and effective massages based on what your goal is. I started using PDtM services during my infertility journey. After going to some free informational sessions, I then worked with a nutritionist, tried acupuncture, participated in the fertility-friendly yoga sessions, and met some fantastic ladies with the book club. I can't say enough about the owners, the employees, the ladies that come here, and the atmosphere of support during such a difficult time. After years of struggling, we had a surprise natural pregnancy that I credit to PDtM! The relaxation that I feel in the tea room with the incense and zen music is needed on a daily basis! I was a first timer to acupuncture and a little skeptical after the session if it did anything, but I was having contractions and my water broke less than 24 hours after the session. It was the day before my due date, so I may have been ready - but I had not been dilated or having any pre-labor symptoms when I went for my appointment. I work upstairs. And it has been easy to come here for vitamins and yoga class. My sister was totally raving about them helping her get pregnant. And she hooked me up with a great accupuncturist there who stopped my migranes (it worked, yeay!) My husband and I are now thinking about a baby, and I would like to come here too. But, for the past few months, I have noticed some funny things at the front desk. All the people who work there seem very sad and over worked. And you would think that working at that place would be happy and positive. This summer I heard one of the managers scream at the receptionist, right in front of other patients. The receptionist had to smile and answer the phone and talk to people as she held back tears. I work in HR, and never have seen a manager do that before. The weird thing was was the receptionist seemed to know what she was doing. Because, the last time I went back a few weeks ago for my vitamins, another lady was at the front. She sold me the wrong vitamins and didn't know how to use the computer. The other person I have seen at the desk seems exhosted and sad. I work in HR. So, if your workers are not happy, your company suffers. Maybe that is why other people have commented on bad customer service. I can tell the people who work there are not treated well. And that is very sad for such a cool, helpfull place. read more

Her bedside manner, her intelligence and know-how, her intuitive nature, and her compassion just made my pregnancy a great experience. She mentored me and helped resolve all of my ailments during my pregnancy, keeping me relaxed. She treated my migraines, acid reflux, sciatica, and was able to address all of my questions and concerns throughout my pregnancy. I have had a really great experience with most of the acupuncture sessions that I have had at this location. I loved Lisa (who I think left), and Anna and Lexie are wonderful!! It is very relaxing and I feel like they know what they are doing. When I needed to get squeezed in before and after transfer, they accommodated me. So why 4 stars instead of 5: I feel like they try to sell you lots of stuff. Some of it might be beneficial but sometimes I feel pressured by it. Nick seems to do a good job at acupuncture and know what he's doing, but he is awfully chatty. All in all, I think it's a great place to go if you are dealing with infertility. read more

Pulling Down the Moon is simply an incredible place. I have gone there for yoga classes, acupuncture, massage, nutritional counseling...and to be honest, just to "get away from it all" sometimes. Just walking in gives you a sense of calm ~ sitting in their tea room, sipping tea, listening to the music. It's like a mini spa experience. The Moon offers their services as holistic fertilty treatments. I used them all in conjunction with Western medicine. My success is largely due to what I got from these alternative methods. I feel they helped me learm so much about myself and got both my mind and body in better shape than either have ever been. Love this tranquil place! The renovated office has a great vibe that I noticed the minute I walked in the door. Love that they have hot tea on hand in the waiting room. The rooms are cozy, warm and private and do not at all feel institutional or like a Dr's office. I come here for acupuncture and exclusively use Yong Han. I've been coming to PDTM for just over a year now to help with my fertility needs. I was someone who didn't even know what to ask when I first called them...I just wanted to cry. Meg answered the phone and helped me understand what services PDTM had and how they could help. I had hoped that acupuncture could bring my FSH levels down ... which it did lower but I didn't know at that time the community of experts and support I would be gaining. People who knew what I was going through and cared with all their heart. Meg is a great acupuncturist and could not be more supportive in this process. Anna is amazing as well with helpful nutrition and herbal tips. The massages are great - definitely help relax in a different way than your use to with regular every day massages. And, Michelle at the front desk always greets with a smile and really makes you feel welcomed. The PDTM team have put on numerous free webinars/in person seminars that have helped tremendously as well; just showing how much they really do care and want to educate. This place has a nice atmosphere, I stopped going only because my insurance was accepted elsewhere. I liked that some of the women had gone through fertility issues as well. My one criticism was the initial exam. It was $150 and consisted of 30 minutes of a lot of questions, prior to the session, that I don't believe are necessary. I am all for a business making a profit but this felt like price gauging. At my new acupuncture place, I discussed my situation during the initial visit and also share an update prior to each session - in terms of where I am in my cycle. Then the session is tailored to this discussion. There are no extra fees for this. read more

This is tough to review this place as I am giving it a 1 star simply for the snotty attitude of some of the people at the front desk (non-acupuncturists). As someone else said, they have this uppity attitude with no right to be like that. I also did not like the male acupuncturist as he also had an attitude and was very rude. However, I do like all of the female acupuncturists I have seen and think they are good and nice. If I could give a review for them it would be a 4 or probably a 5!! However I hate dealing with the front desk people and their attitude. It's just not really pleasant and it makes me wonder if the owners are like that too as these are the people that the customers remember... They are the face and voice of this place so their coldness unfortunately ruins in my opinion part of the good experience with the female acupuncturists. I also don't like the location. An office right in the loop downtown would be so much better and convenient than their trying to be uppity location. Finally, I think Ana and Lisa are terrific acupuncturists as they are down to earth, nice, experienced, and good at what they do. Hey, maybe just wear headphones when walking in so as to minimize the experience with the front desk yo-yos who know it all!!! Or just don't say much at all so as to minimize contact with them. I was at least relieved to see someone else on here (yikes two others so its definitely not me) felt the same way as I did with them. I at least gave it a chance as I believe in acupuncture and thought it's worth the pain in dealing with the front desk rudies for the benefits of acupuncture. Owners- please hire better people at the front desk if you actually give a damn about your business and keeping happy customers. I am about 8 months pregnant right now and along with my long history of scoliosis, I struggled daily to keep my constant back pain in check. Seeing the immense amount of pain I was going through, my chiropractor recommended that I go see Meridith at Pulling Down the Moon for a pre-natal massage. I did not really know what to expect initially because when I think of a massage, I think of people rubbing down your back with aromatic oils which is nice, but the massages I usually get at spas don't really do too much to relieve my back pain. Meredith has completely changed my outlook on massages. She is extremely skillful at targeting areas that bother you and this kind of massage is not meant to be a simple 'feel good while you are on the table' massage. Her massages are deep, effective at pain relief and for the first time in months I am walking around pain free again and that is a fantastic feeling. I go to her weekly for pre-natal massages and as I get heavier with the increasing weight of the baby, I am feeling much more mobile than before. On top of that, Meredith is just a really wonderful, sweet person who really acknowledges your concerns and addresses them professionally. The staff at Pulling Down the Moon are amazing and I just really enjoy going there. I would definitely recommend anyone who is looking for REAL pain relief to go see Meredith because she is very skilled. read more

I had a very bad experience with these guys. My husband and I went to their 'yoga for fertility' class. When I called and tried to find out if we both could go to the class together, they had said sounded positive. We went to try their first session in a series of 6. The yoga teacher Patricia seemed nice enough and she said that although it is unusual for men to come to this class, my husband was welcome and he must not let himself feel awkward because he was the only man in the class. We took the class and we told her we would sign up for the rest of the 5 sessions as we left. The next time week, when we went to the class, the receptionist told us that my husband could not take that class anymore because the other women in the class found it uncomfortable that there was a man in the class. They turned us away. I see this as discrimination. There are several things that bother me about this. The first is the fact that women consider it a bad thing for a man to be in a yoga class with his wife while they are both together in the fertility journey. Did they expect to exclude my husband from the stress relief and calming that we were seeking through our journey? That does not seem fair at all. I wish they were more understanding and open-minded. But everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I will leave it there. The second thing is that the owners of this enterprise decided to give preference to the concerns of these ladies and exclude us from the class and gave not credence to the fact that we are their customers to and our needs are important too. This is like if you have some girls in a preschool class not getting along with some other girls and boys then the teacher excludes those girls and boys from the class to make these girls happy. It does not feel like the right thing to do. If the class was only meant for women, why were we invited in the first place and then asked to leave the next time? And if they could not accommodate us in this class, why did they not offer to give us other options to make up for it? The third thing is that they waited till we got there for the second class and then told us we could not take the class. If they knew that this was the stance they were going to take, why did they not call us and inform us before we got there? The teacher Patricia knew we were coming back to the next class and they had our information. Why did they waste our evening and effort? I will not be recommending this class to anyone else. I do not know if the yoga would be helpful but if they are unable to be fair and do the right thing, I would not want anyone else to go through that. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Pulling Down the Moon. These women have empowered me through the uncertainty of infertility and miscarriage. My practitioners have given me knowledge and wholistic options to supplement the suggestions of my doctors. I have been seeing Anna for acupuncture for over a year now and she is amazing...so knowledgable and kind hearted. Thanks to weekly acupuncture and some diet changes, we have gotten my irregular PCOS cycles to a fairly consistent 35 days! This probably took us about 6 months, but patience paid off. I also enjoy the fertility yoga class and supplement my practice with PDtM yoga DVD when I can't make their classes work with my schedule. I recently had a helpful diet consultation with their nutritionist, Breea, and can't wait to see how her guidance enhances my results. I have experienced nothing but encouraging, helpful people in my year and a half here. I don't understand why 13 positive reviews of this place are hidden and only four (two positive, two negative) are showing, but I was shocked to see PDTM with such a low rating. I felt I needed to do my part to bring it back up. I went to PDTM for the first time when I was emotionally recovering from a miscarriage of a very wanted baby. I went to a *free* workshop put on by one of the owners, called "Dealing with Disappointment." Only 4 people showed up, but I was amazed that she continued with the session that was incredibly helpful and healing for the 4 of us who needed it, despite the fact that she wasn't making a dime on us. That is when my devotion to PDTM started. I next signed up for a "Yoga for Fertility" class that was just as much support group as yoga class, which I needed. At first I was nervous, because PDTM seemed to be a place especially geared to women going through fertility treatment. It is, but it is also open, accepting and comfortable for women at any stage of trying to conceive (I was still going the "natural" route at that point). I found committed, compassionate instructors and a community of women that I could relate to and be open with about my struggles. And once I had progressed into the world of fertility treatment, it was so relieving to have a place where I could go to ask questions and get advice from others who had been there. While it took longer than I hoped, I am finally pregnant and so looking forward to taking my first Prenatal Yoga class at PDTM. I truly believe that the support I found there is a big part of what got me - physically and emotionally - where I am today. read more

I love this place! It has become my relaxing sanctuary. Everyone from the receptionist to the acupuncturists are so friendly. I love getting to my appointments early so I can relax, have some tea, and read the books they have. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 1.5years. We've have 5 failed fertility treatments which has been such an emotional roller coaster. PDtM has helped me relax as well as educate me on my nutrition and lifestyle choices to keep me healthy and improve my fertility. I get acupuncture weekly. Meg, Kelly, Anna and all of the other acupuncturists are amazing. They really get to know you and become a support system during the journey of infertility treatments. Many of the employees are also going through the same journey so they can relate. Not only do they focus on my fertility but even when I had the flu, Meg focused on that and cleared up my chest. I also get the fertility enhancing massages which are the best I've ever had. Margita has hands of an angel. She is so sweet and caring and customizes the massages based on your cycle and your needs. I've taken some of the yoga classes and again, so focused on my fertility needs. They also sell so many supplements that have been researched and shown to improve your fertility. They take the guess work out of it and I buy all of my supplements from them. Many times I call them with questions before calling my doctor. They are so knowledgable. I am happy to announce that after our second failed IVF and taking a break off meds before going to a different doctor for a second opinion, we got pregnant naturally. I was really surprised to see PDTM had such a low rating on here. I have been going to PDTM for a year and have nothing but great things to say about them. I started seeing Kim weekly for acupuncture treatments last April as we had been trying for a while naturally to get pregnant without success. Kim was a wonderful support and so encouraging, and in addition to targeting infertility she worked on all my digestive issues during my sessions, too. I saw a lot of improvement with my overall health and seeing her once a week was hugely relaxing when the emotions of trying to get pregnant felt a little overwhelming. She also was a great sounding board when it came to all the things I tried--when temping (a la TCOYF) was driving me crazy, she encouraged me to take a break from it. She also recommended the PDTM Yoga for Fertility class, and I did a 6-week session last fall and absolutely loved it. The class is about 20 minutes of instruction on using yoga principles to help manage infertility and then the rest of the class is a wonderful yoga session with special emphasis on areas for fertility (hip opening, etc). We were just starting to look into infertility treatments after 16 months w/o success when I discovered I was pregnant in December! I continued acupuncture treatments with Kim up until the second trimester which really helped with nausea, and she also gave me good tips for keeping the nausea at bay throughout the week (ginger candies, not letting my stomach get empty, etc). I'm now almost 25 weeks along and am so thankful I had PDTM as such a big support throughout this process! As far as the front desk staff goes, I've never had any problems with them. They've always been kind, super helpful, and flexible if I needed to change an appointment time. read more

My daughter-in-law was told to give up on fertility treatments and go for a donor egg since she could not get a retrievable follicle. She begged the doctor for one more cycle, and started going here before that last cycle that the doctor agreed to. I had never gotten acupuncture before coming here. It was suggested by my midwife when my husband and I were trying to conceive. I went mostly to Meg, but did go a few times to Anna as well. Both acupuncturists were amazingly attentive, compassionate, and caring. During a time of uncertainty and sometimes disappointment, Meg acted like more than just an acupuncturist. She was my therapist and my solid ground when I needed it most. I can't recommend this place enough - they were my support system during a difficult time and although I don't think it was the acupuncture that got me pregnant, it made the journey much more bearable. read more

I love Pulling Down the Moon! After several years of fertility struggles, I started taking meditation and yoga classes from Pulling Down the Moon. What a difference it has made! Everything I have learned at the Moon has enhanced my life and made the fertility treatment process easier to deal with. It has allowed me to have the "me time" that we all so desperately need. Just entering the door it feels so warm and welcoming and gives me that peaceful feeling I have achieved through the yoga and meditation. I am shocked at the low ratings for this wonderful place . PDTM is exactly what you need when you are going through the painful and stressful IVF process. After my first unsuccessful IVF (due to egg quality issues), my doctor advised me to try out acupuncture for a few months. At first, I was apprehensive about PDTM due to the low Yelp ratings but thought of giving it a try. I have been going to PDTM for over 4 months now and it was the best decision I made during the IVF process. Not only did my egg quality significantly jump up but I also had the most stress-free IVF cycle. Margaret charted out my nutrition plan and has been extremely responsive to any random questions I have about nutrition and supplements ever since I saw her 4 months back. I primarily saw Anna for acupuncture and have to say that she was so skillful with the needle that I hardly ever felt a pinch. Her bedside manner and kind nature just makes you feel like she is a friend to you. She was very skillfull in changing my needle points based on how I was feeling that day too. I also saw Lisa few times for acupuncture and was instantly drawn to her deep understanding of this therapy. I also went to Cathleen for massages and cannot stop raving about her techniques and skill. She is not just great at the massage but also has deep understanding of human body. I was shocked at how she was able to tell me that there was something wrong on one side of stomach, which the doctors later found on ultrasound! Unlike some other reviews where they had terrible time with the front-desk, I was lucky enough to have Mercedez at the front desk each time I went and she always greeted me in the most friendly and kind manner. The best part is that the management of this place is so committed to keeping you stress-free during the IVF cycle that they went out of the way to adjust things for me during my IVF transfer. I highly recommend this "spa" to anyone who is going through infertility, esp IVF, make the process easier on yourself by trying out PDTM services and also gain from it wrt fertility. I just had my first acupuncture treatment and absolutely loved it. I had always wanted to try it, but never had the time or new of a reputable place. PDtM has been in business for about 10 years and it shows. The staff is professional, knowledgeable and super nice. I've read the reviews about their customer service from a year or more ago, but they have a new front office staff that greets you with a smile and gives you the VIP treatment, as every business should. I recommend their services to any couple that is trying to conceive, looking for a healthier option or experiencing a difficult pregnancy. read more

I received 6 acupuncture treatments at Pulling Down the Moon to help me from going into preterm labor after I was put on bed rest for the last 7 weeks of my high risk pregnancy with twins. I really enjoyed my experience. The treatments were so relaxing it almost felt like getting a massage in a way, and the meditation CDs I listened to during the treatments were helpful in staying positive. The one problem I had was the long walk from the parking lot to their office. Since I've been on bed rest, my husband pushed me in a wheelchair to the office for my appointments. I'm getting ready for the birth of my twins now, after a successful time on bed rest. I don't know if the acupuncture was the key to keeping this pregnancy healthy, but I know it felt good, I looked forward to it, and it couldn't have hurt. I worked with several acupuncture practitioners and they were all knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful in being supportive during a stressful time. read more
