Hmmm... so I took a chance and wanted to try a new place to do my hair. I got the Groupon for blow, cut, style and full highlights and made my appt for today. I arrived and was greeted by the receptionist who was very sweet and was then greeted by my hairs dresser Ann. She was nice. We had discussed side sweeping bags with front laters and caramel highlights. I wasn't informed but she bleached the highlight strands and then added the color. After the first set of hair color my hair came out blond. When Ann proceeded to cut my hair I had to ask if the top of my head was going to be so light. She said yes. So I asked her to put another coat of color on at least the top part. This did make the my top of hair slightly darker. So instead of warm caramel I got cool blondish. The side bangs came out more blunt than I liked (I ended up going home and trimming it myself so it flowed better). And I was charged an additional $15 for having long hair. The woman washing my hair only either applied shampoo or conditioner to my hair... not both. And the last rinse not sure if she applied either. It was more of a rinse than a wash. I may need to get it fixed by another place in the near future..... I won't be going back any time soon as nice as they were. read more

This past weekend I visited Pulse Salon to get a haircut and blowout. I spoke with a woman on the phone to make the appointment who was LOVELY and very flexible. I made my appointment for 10am and arrived 10-15 minutes early. The hairdresser who cut my hair was not there when I arrived. Apparently, the man who cut my hair owns the salon. He arrived at 10:05am. Throughout the 30-40 minutes I sat in the chair, he answered the phone a MINIMUM of four times while 2 of his employees or coworkers sat in chairs throughout the salon scrolling on their phones. Instead of asking for assistance, he left the brush in my hair, with my hair covering my face as he answered the phone. He answered in the middle of cutting my hair 2-3 other times throughout the appointment. He apologized only after one occurrence of doing just that. My hair looked beautiful and he did a great job cutting it specifically as I asked. However, even as I paid at the end of my appointment, he answered the phone. When I handed over his tip he barely looked me in the eye as he said thank you. I was polite and complementary but I should have said something to his face before I left. BUT he was on the phone and left me very little opportunity! So I am leaving a Yelp review instead. I am a young woman and I did not speak up for myself when I should have. If this man has any business skills as a salon owner he will learn from this review. Treat your customers, no matter their age with respect. Look them in the eyes as they pay, and ask your coworkers to help when the phone is ringing. I will not be returning here. read more

I found my new salon! Finally, after going to various salons, and walking away deflated...I came here - initially with a Groupon, and was not treated poorly because of it either! Most salons will frown down upon Groupon offers, but my stylist, Annie, spent so much time, and did exactly what I wanted, and didn't rush me out of there at all. She didn't cut too. much off, and gave me the best blowout I've had in years! Got an appointment 3 weeks early for shampoo, cut and blow dry on (8/7/21) . The day prior to appt I received an email to confirm my appointment which I did . Receptionist was on the phone when I arrived . I told her my name , she looked at the clock and told me that no one can do my hair . DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. Although the front desk woman was able to fit my mother in... we walked into the salon and were greeted. We discussed specifically what haircut-style my mom was to get. However, as soon I left the salon, the hairdresser cut off ABOUT ten inches to donate hair instead of the two we agreed on. Additionally, we had discussed layers.... nope. They didn't even do that. I met so many people yesterday so I hope I don't get the names mixed up but Gina washed my hair and did so well she was so helpful and gave me tips on upkeep of my hair when I told her I was having trouble. She was SO SO nice everyone was so welcoming, really sweet. Then I got my hair cut by David who did such a great job VERY thorough on the conversation before he cuts which is so important to me and he triple checks everything! I was very specific on what I wanted and I got what I asked for. It was perfect and he was so so helpful with helping me with my hair he gave me some dinner recommendations and he was so nice very knowledgeable. I had previously wrote a review for this salon that shared a very bad experience I had, however that review was for a salon with the same name in PORTLAND, OREGON not New York. I feel awful I got the two salons confused! I've never had any services done at this salon, but after speaking with the owner I can honestly say that I would be new client. Suzanne called me as soon as I gave her my contact. She was understanding and wanted to turn my experience around. Even after I realized that I got the two salons mixed up, she was still understanding and had empathy for my bad experience. They could give me a same day appointment and didn't treat me differently just because I had a groupon.I have had bad experiences in other salons with a groupon in the past. I purchased the Groupon and had Silvia do my hair. She colored and cut my hair, it was a pretty drastic change. All in all I must have cut approximately 12-14" of hair. It was pretty damaged from straightening, heat and highlights. She took my roots and remaining hair back to a beautiful espresso brown. She applied a treatment to give my hair a boost and gave me a great cut that helped lighten the heavy hair. I left with bouncy shiny silky hair. The picture does not justice to how it really looked. She even gave me take home conditioning treatment packs to apply weekly. I was very satisfied with my cut and color, which had been rare in the past few years. Fast forward two months and I am still very happy and planning an appt for a touch up to the lovely color. Don't hesitate to go here. The staff was friendly and complimentary. Worst experience ever! I have been dying my hair for 12 years and have been to dozen of salons and never experienced a more unprofessional place. First off why offer Groupon if your business will be upset when someone uses it. I went into the salon with my friend (who was paying out of pocket) and the receptionist said people who use groupons have to sign a waiver that they aren't responsible for being chemically burned etc during services! Why would only Groupon costumers need to sign that? It's as if you are saying you will purposely use bad products for people who have a discount! I can understand if everyone has to sign it but they said to my friend paying full price that she didn't need one (I guess you won't be hurt if u pay more?). Before I could even fill out the paper, my friend showed the stylist a photo of what she wanted done to her hair and he laughed in her face! I wasn't a fan of the rest of the women in the shop but after the nasty response I received when I asked about Thomas I really feel the whole shop needs an attitude adjustment! I moved to Long Island about 18 months ago and I have finally given up my attachment to my hairdresser of ten years back home in NJ. My mother-in-law and sisters-in-law have been having their hair cut here (it used to be J Martin, now it's Salon Pulse) for years and recommended it, so I tried it out. I walked in at 3:30pm on New Year's Eve and they were able to accommodate me as a walk-in, which was impressive. Julie gave me a wonderful cut: I told her how I wanted to be able to wear it and she understood completely what I was going for and gave me the perfect cut. Even though she was staying late to do my cut and I knew she had somewhere to go, she wasn't rushing and I felt she gave plenty of time and attention to the work she was doing on my hair. I wish I could give negative stars. This salon is honestly horrible. I have very easy hair, it can be manipulated almost any way I want. A friend and I bought a Groupon for a blowout, and we are both extremely disappointed. Our hair is fried, frayed and flat! The young girl gave me large curls that fell before I even stepped out of the place. She thought it was a good idea to put gel at the ends of my friends hair before the blow out too. I could have put my finger in a socket and gotten the same result. Not to mention she was yanking the knots and not giving up until my head was cocked sideways and the hair was pulled from my head. Besides that, the inside of the place is a disaster. The employees are all rude, there wasn't a minute that they weren't giving dirty looks or looking everyone who walked in up and down. I've gone to this salon over 5 times and everytime I have left satisfied. All the hair dressers I have tried are nice and have good skills. I tend to go to John since he was the one I was initially referred to but I have also tried two other young girls whose names I forgot...perhaps Nicole may have been one of them and the other a strawberry/dirty blonde...Either way, all did a nice cut and blow out and I have yet to leave dissatisfied.
