We came here as part of a rest stop and did not regret it. The reviews seemed a little more lukewarm but the food and prices were great! We ordered the chicken tikka masala and the saag paneer with medium spice, which came with one side of rice. We also ordered samosas and a garlic naan and potato naan. The food had great flavoring and the bread was very soft and fresh. The sauces for the samosas were also good. We frankly are surprised this place only had 3.5 stars. For all of this great food, it was only $32 and then we tipped well for the service. This restaurant had very little wait time for the food compared to the other places next door even though all were busy on a weeknight. Seems like there were predominantly to-go orders being served. Customer service was good, I believe they might have a different owner and cook because their tandoori chicken which I usually love has changed. Typically it's more saucy, and the veggies are more cooked. This time it was dry and overcooked. The flavor was good, just different. They said we don't have it made and make it to order. It takes time. It was a no we don't have it and we will not make it. My wife and I come here often. Over the past few years, we have tried different items. The service is always hot and miss. We get that portions have changed to the smaller aspect, like anywhere else you go but considering that rice is probably the cheapest part of the meal, the portion is never the same. 10/18/2021 Covid has changed this place. This is a goto restaurant when we are in town. It's always great. It's still good but not great. First, we had to order carryout, we could not dine in. YET there was a family perhaps the owner's family eating at a booth. Second, there are short-staffed, who isn't right now? Only one hard-working woman at the front was putting together a very large order of sweets for a customer ahead of us. So we found this place using Yelp. We decided to give it a try. The lady who took my order was not wearing a mask and hasn't since I've been waiting for my food. This order was placed at 11:40 AM. As I was waiting with mask on, an Indian customer walked in without a mask and not one word to him about wearing a mask. Kind of funny I guess. Why require it when the cashier was not wearing one right? As far as waiting for two meals, I have been waiting for over twenty minutes with no other customers waiting in line. An employee walked into the business and walked to the kitchen without a mask while another employee walked out of the kitchen without a mask. I guess this is the only place in Stanislaus County where a mask is optional. So finally at 12:08 pm, the food was ready. The cashier had the nerve to say it only took twenty minutes. Ummmm I don't know where you Learned how to tell time but I waited for 28 minutes. Nothing express here as their name stated. I take the food home and now it's time to judge. The garlic chicken was ok but one issue. Old chicken pieces was used. You know the kind that was cooked days prior and then warmed up in the microwave kind of chicken. The flavor was good but the chicken was not. Come on people. If this meal took 28 minutes to prepare, cook the chicken to order. So the garlic naan was great. Nice garlic flavor. The rice they provide was plentiful and good. The other complaint I had was the wife said she did. It get enough chicken like I got. She ordered the chicken tikka while I went with the butter chicken. So could this place have some potential? The simple answer is yes. They forgot the drinks, the chicken biryani DID NOT Tast 1% like a real biryani! It was like they took white rice and mixed chicken curry into it. 1st time in my life I'm tasting biryani with thick RAW onions in it! The butter chicken was a magenta color, sugary if that's even possible. Did not taste like butter chicken AT ALL! The daal tarka was so bad, I'm at loss for words.
