The ambiance and food were great, but I truly believe that the staff can make or break an experience. We were visiting from out of town and decided to stop by because of the excellent reviews this place had received. When we first walked in, one of the employees asked what I wanted. I explained that I was waiting for my husband before ordering. She responded by saying, "Oh well, they're waiting," referring to the customers behind me. I immediately replied, "That's fine, go ahead!" so the other customers could order first, but her reaction afterward felt dismissive and somewhat annoyed. We later placed and paid for our order. Shortly after, my husband decided he wanted a Biscoff latte instead, so we politely asked if the drink could be changed. Another employee kindly stepped in and said she could do it, which we appreciated. I specifically asked for the drink to be changed to an iced Biscoff latte. Unfortunately, when the drinks came out, mine was still hot instead of iced. I went back up respectfully and let them know there had been a mix-up. Both employees looked at each other and chuckled in what came across as annoyance. I even apologized for the inconvenience, but the first employee responded by saying, "We are just too busy." I completely understand that working in customer service can be overwhelming, and I always try to be patient and understanding. However, at the time there were only a couple of seated customers and just the two of us waiting for our drinks, so the comment felt unnecessary. By that point, the interaction from the moment we walked in had already made the experience feel uncomfortable. We ended up grabbing our drinks and leaving disappointed. I usually enjoy leaving positive reviews, especially for small businesses, so it was unfortunate because we came in excited after reading such wonderful things about this place. read more

I live in another town north of modesto but come to Turlock every couple weeks to see the best dog groomer. While i wait for my fur baby to be done I pick up coffee at a new place each time. It's a cute little coffee shop with limited seating. I ordered a biscoff latte, hot, and a pesto turkey sandwich. The sandwich was delicious, the coffee was delicious, but it arrived iced. I was disappointed but didn't want to complain and the drink was good so I just dealt with it. My mom ordered a simple breakfast and she enjoyed it. I prefer it a bit chunkier or at least just slices of avocado spread across. Poached egg was a bit too runny: not yolky enough. Matcha latte was terribly bitter: quality of matcha used will make a different especially adding some sort of syrup or sugar to sweeten it. Hidden little gem attached to Roth Social house! I've been here a handful of times to get coffee, the biscoff latte, lavender latte, and my favorite the banana crème brûlée latte with 2 extra shots! You must try if you love bananas! This time around went with a friend after some shopping we ordered the birria burrito and green chili chicken burrito with a side of green salsa, both were amazing! We were looking for a place to stop for lunch on our way down to Fresno, and we found this charming and quaint little market in Turlock. There is a country vibe with plates hanging on the walls, but it also felt contemporary with their food offerings, such as drip coffee and avocado toast. The pastries were very tempting, but we resisted and stuck to lunch items. What we ordered: + Brioche egg sandwich with avocado - The "R" that's branded onto the bun was cute, and the sandwich was very good. The sandwich held together well and the eggs were fluffy. + Breakfast burrito - This was very good and the eggs were fluffy as well. I got a yogurt bowl and my husband got a chorizo breakfast burrito at the recommendation of the barista. She was most helpful and patient as I changed my order three times while trying to order! Everything sounded so good ... the decor is super cute farmhouse family style and they have a wide range of pastries also I intend to get on the way out for the long drive back home! They all look amazing. On a Sunday morning I expected it to be much busier but it wasn't bad. A little rush came in just after us (about 10am) so we made it just in time -- excellent. My husband's only complaint is that the round cafe cups that his drip coffee came in -- his fingers couldn't fit through the handle. They brought him a to go cup instead of an in house cup -- problem solved. The yogurt bowl is absolutely to die for. So sweet and lemony .. wow. So delicious. It was our first time here. It was the cafe side. We ordered 2 breakfast burritos and 2 specialty coffee beverages. Their coffees were ok. My hot late was cold. The burritos came out. I asked for a little salsa? Sorry no, there is no salsa. The lady said you can go get Tapatio and vaguely points to another part of the restaurant. Took a bite, there's no meat, no flavor, no seasoning. When I told the waitress "Princess" she got angry and said we should have looked at the menu more closely before ordering. We should have added more to our burritos if we wanted them to have bacon or anything else. I said maybe it would have been nice for the girl that helped us to give us a heads up that we need to ask to add flavor, or meat, or they come out tasting like nothing. She was very angry and walked away and I asked for the manager and she said she is the manager and kept waking. Not once did she offer to have new ones made, or fix the issue. No apology, no sorry maybe we should give the customer a heads up about it. We will never come back to anything Roth. So rude. So unprofessional. I was really excited to try this place out after being told about it so many times from local friends and family. I decided to stop by with my sister since I'm in town for the weekend and honestly had such high hopes. I would like to preface this by saying the server who took our order was really nice and cordial and my overall review is not about her service. We ordered an everything croissant with cream cheese, a hazelnut sweet cold brew (for me) and a biscoff latte (for my sister). I wish the croissant would have been toasted but not sure if that was even an option. My coffee was good but my sister's drink was too milky. She asked a different barista/server if she could get it remade. The barista went to go talk with the manager, Faith and pretty much told us that the drink can't be remade because it was a specialty drink but she could bring a shot of espresso to make it less sweet which wasn't the original issue. My sister then asked for another cup to pour her drink into and that was met with some skepticism which has never happened before. On our way out, we decided to talk to Faith, we were then told the drink can be remade but they would have to charge us again. This drink was EIGHT dollars. So this drink would cost us SIXTEEN dollars after being remade. I was stunned. I have been to so many coffee shops and have never experienced this. I've also tried many specialty drinks before and if I didn't like it, it was happily remade. I was in Modesto for a conference last week and I'm so glad I found this GEM of a place! My hotel was in Turlock and I had very little time for food. Service was 10/10! I felt bad for the young g lady the first time I went because some lady was in there scamming her. I let her know when the lady left that it was a scam to get something she didn't pay for. The chicken Cesar wrap was good. IMO it could use more dressing but they did give me some in the side. This was the first day. Then I went back in the week a second time and the wrap had plenty of dressing. Homemade dressing btw... I love coffee but I hate Sbux. Let me tell you... the cold brew here is DELISH! I recommend the place because the pastries, sandwiches and coffee are great but I gave it a low rating because they seem to run out of items too soon quite often. I suggested they plan ahead and stock up and they recommended we come in earlier in the morning before they run out....lol. We came in at 3pm and they close at 4pm. They served my coffee in a to-go because they didn't want to serve on real cups at this time, and they had no cream cheese again . Everyone was so kind and willing to answer questions. There are some tables inside to eat the items purchased. It's really a good place to get some work done or to meet up with someone. What we order (which is the most important): Hot Vanilla Latte with Oat milk- 6/10 the vanilla and espresso didn't have the best pairing Hot Mocha- 5/10 the mocha and espresso didn't really blend well together and tasted worse than the vanilla Cinnamon Roll- 8/10 Pumpkin pastry- 7/10 Pumpkin Dalgona Coffee- 6/10 a little too sweet for my personal taste, this is more of a treat Margherita Pizza- 8.5/10 really good pizza The weakest point was the coffee itself. I would be curious to know what coffee beans are being used. But, there is really good potential, my personal opinion would be to change the coffee beans as they don't really taste like espresso beans. If they are, it has very distinct notes that don't blend too well. The pastries overall didn't taste sweet. But we wouldn't visit a place for the pastries, we visit for the coffee or food. BE AWARE!! The reason I gave one star was when I received my statement, I found out I was overcharged. My best judgment would say the tip was additional than what I authorized. We had two meals, one side and one bottled drink on the tab. It was $59.20 plus a tip. They overcharged by $70!!! Please be aware when eating here, check your statement!!!! It ruined my experience and I will not be back. The place was very nice inside and employees SEEMED kind. The food was good quality, we had bacon, eggs, and potatoes. Cute cozy little find with easy access to the freeway. Simple menu with coffee/tea/tea lattes/cold brew, tasty baked goods, a small offering of epicurean sandwiches and salads and gourmet pizzas baked in their very own pizza oven. I've visited this cafe before and usually enjoy their coffee and my overall experience, but today was a different experience. I took my sister who was visiting from out of town, who wanted to try it after hearing me rave about it. After ordering drinks and a croissant, I didn't like my drink and asked if they could fix it. The worker said they couldn't without charging me for a new one. The original drink was $8 and the remake would've been another $8. The manager Faith said they were too busy to fix it, but it wasn't that crowded, and I wasn't asking for an immediate remake. In today's economy, where coffee can cost a pretty penny, it's just the right thing to do to remake a drink when someone doesn't enjoy it and has paid so much for it. As a former barista, I always remade drinks because it's good customer service and people deserve to enjoy what they paid for. We've eaten at Roth Social several times and love it. After seeing a semi-viral video regarding the Market and their pastrami sandwich we thought we'd give it a shot. Atmosphere was great and everyone was friendly. Husband ordered the sandwich, I got the "everything croissant stuffed/filled with cream cheese" and our son got a cookie. Surprisingly the sandwich came out first and we were instantly taken back a bit because the sandwich in the video was clearly made for the video and completely loaded up. This one, was not. It was nearly half the size. But the flavor was great. My husband was nearly finished with the first half when the cookie arrived. Cookie was 10/10. A few minutes later we were informed there was no cream cheese and they'd need to make some. I let them know it was ok that I'd just take the croissant because based off the sample croissant in the case it was going to be a solid croissant either way. Several more minutes pass, husband is done with his sandwich and son is done with the cookie. I walk up and asked for the croissant to go as we were finished. Lots of smiles and sorries. We left and once home I finally opened the box. It was literally just a sad little croissant with a tiny sprinkling of everything seasoning cut in half. It was definitely not worth the price paid. I understand things happen. These things don't bother me. But staff should have realized there was little value in the product I was being handed and offered to do something about it. For the price of the croissant I could have gotten a dozen at Costco. Might go back, but first impression wasn't the best. read more

Everything here was pretty good! The pricing was a bit high but I felt the quality of the food was mostly worth it. For example you can see in the picture that they use very thickly cut bacon for their BLT, so they're definitely not skimping. They only toast the "toast" on one side and that is done lightly...like eating a slice of soft bread. I asked about that and the server said 'that's the way they do it." They do not serve any jelly/jam/honey and the butter they evidently put on the "toast" is hardly visible. The coffee is good and freshly made. I did not want bacon or potatoes and there is no fruit available . I did also order an oatmeal cookie that I think needed to be baked a little longer . Very moist and soft (raw?) in the center. Stumbled upon this place for lunch on a Wednesday. Hardly anyone here which is truly a shame since it has awesome sandwiches, homemade potato chips, and huge yummy cookies. Had their iced pomegranate green tea and an iced chai latte .. both divine. Service was excellent and quick, place is spotless with adorable, welcoming decor. Parking is a non-issue. My wife and I stopped by recently and had some pizza. The pizza was absolutely phenomenal. The dough is not from frozen rounds or some flat pre made dough. I saw them pull out a proofing container with the proofed doughs to make our pizzas and the effort definitely came through in how delicious the pizza was. My wife had the pepperoni and I had the wild mushroom pizza. The red sauce on my wife's pizza did have a small kick to it, which was great, but if you have a super low (like incredibly low) tolerance for spice, I would opt for a pizza with a different base. We didn't try any of the drinks, but they seemed to put a lot of effort into their drinks. We hope to be back soon to try some coffee and enjoy some more of their fantastic pizza! read more
