Amazing, fresh, flavorful food with good size portions- we have it at least once a week and it never disappoints.

One afternoon in Hayward, my family and I showed up right at 6 PM, exactly at closing time. We had just left a family party but purposely held our appetite because our favorite Puerto Rican food truck was finally back in town. My wife and I were married in Old San Juan, and Puerto Rico will always hold a special place in our hearts. We even travel back to the island with our kids whenever we can. When Chef Darren saw how disappointed we were that we had missed them, he didn't turn us away. Even though they were already closed, he fired the grill back up and blessed our family with an incredible meal. That level of hospitality, heart, and genuine Puerto Rican warmth is rare. The food was absolutely amazing as always, authentic flavors that instantly take us back to the island, but the kindness and service meant even more to us. We'll always support Boriqua Kitchen. Truly the best Puerto Rican food in the Bay Area, served by people who treat you like family.

Roberto Clemente - yes 100% Ok we actually tried multiple things from the menu and quite literally everything was friggin delicious. I will say, come hungry, come ready for some fried food and enjoy. Talk to Anthony and find out what he's bringing to your belly - he'll guide you the way. I get excited every time I see the truck in our hood. Go, thank me later.

This place is in downtown San Jose so it does not have its own parking lot but you will need to choose an infrastructure to park at. If you are trying to find this spot, it is next to goodtime bar and tucked away in a somewhat alley, rather than being front and center in street view. There is some seating inside and outdoors as well, so it's friendly to order your meal and hang out while drinking a beer in complement of the sandwich. I ordered the chicken tenders with level 3 heat, while my partner got a classic chicken sandwich. He thought that the classic chicken sandwich would give you an option of spice levels too but default it is just the sandwich itself. Their fries again to emphasize, are spectacular! I think it has something to do with their fun crescent moon shape. I typically do not like thicker steak fries, but man, these were tasty and seasoned amazingly. No ketchup needed. When it came to the chicken dishes, while the tenders were well coated with a good ratio between breading to chicken, I felt like outside of the crust, there wasn't any flavor with the chicken itself (was not salty and I wish it was juicy). They gave me some sauce to pair with it, but personally for me, a good chicken tender should standalone be equally delicious. My partner's sandwich was juicy but again I did wish they soaked the chicken or marinated it a bit more to incorporate more flavors. Overall, this spot was fine for me. I don't know if I would come back for the chicken but if I wanted a snack, I would love to get the fries again. :)

Fremont Street Eats is a lively outdoor community event organized by the city's Chamber of…read moreCommerce. It is located off a newly renovated street where new high rise development were put in to increase dwelling density and foot traffic. It is not quite there yet, but I can see where this is going. It is held in this square near a business park so there is plenty of parking. There is a grassy square where families like to lounge with picnic blankets and lawn chairs. There's usually a dj dishing out tunes, a beer and wine tent, and about 8-10 food trucks lined up in an organized fashion. It goes every Friday in the warm months so from May to October. If a holiday pops up on a Friday like 4th of July they will skip it. Starts at 5pm and goes to about 9pm. Bulk of the crowd goes from 6:30 - 8. I go to about 2-4 per year since 2017, with the exception of 2020 cuz y'all know why. You can see the food truck line up each week on their website or socials. So I like to scan that and if it looks promising then I'll text some friends/family if anyone wants to meet up after work on Friday. If the weather is nice, it is just a just a festive and social way to start a summer's weekend. Now even tho I like these events I don't always like food truck food. Sure it is trendy and you do get to sample and /or get stuff brought to you in one area. But I often just find many of the food to be just average at best at prices that rival sit down dining. So to me I like scoping these out occasionally but I don't think they are worth going to on a frequent basis. I also feel that there aren't enough places to sit and eat once you get your food from a truck. There is a small area where they put out portable picnic benches, but those fill up with just 20 people or so. Otherwise you have to sit on the lawn and come prepared with blanket or lawn chair, or find a concrete planter box to sit on, or go back to your car to eat. Another reason why food trucks events often leave me hanging. But bring a warm typical Bay Area summer's evening where it doesn't get dark til almost 9pm and you want to be amongst your community and commerce, this event will do you more than fine.

There was even some line dancing going on in the makeshift stage area at some point. Sound was not the greatest, the volume quite low even for a small event, but it was fine. There were about 8 food trucks to choose from, along with a few random vendor/service tents (like Bass Pro Shops). Decided on sliders and garlic fries from the Curveball food truck. The food was okay, good enough to satisfy my hunger (see my separate review on that). I snagged one of the few spots in the grass with shade on this hot evening, though they also have tables and seating here, partially shaded too. An actual restroom (not porta potties) on site, in the Fremont downtown event center building. Also, plenty of space available in the parking lot. This is a pretty low-key community event, free to attend and grab a bite to eat, and just hang out for an hour or two.

Rebecca was running the truck with her husband, and they were warm, friendly, and hard-working. That same care reflected in the food. Comforting flavors, big portions, and just what we needed. ---- Food ---- The hot dogs here are big, delicious, and fantastic value for the price. Wushu Dog: Loved this one. Inventive and delicious. Great texture, topped with pork sung and crispy cabbage, plus katsu sauce and Japanese mayo. Savory, crunchy, and satisfying. Sumo Dog: Japanese curry beef chili with cheese and fresh scallions. Hearty, comforting, and perfect for that chilly evening. Fried Foods: We didn't try, any but they serve fries and potstickers too. The fries seemed to be a crowd favorite at Great Notion Brewery next door (which is partnered with Dojo Dog). Definitely getting them next time. Rebecca told me she enjoys experimenting with new dishes, and the creativity shows. Looking forward to trying more! ---- Drinks ---- We didn't but drinks as we were enjoying beer at Great Notion, but Dojo Dog also offer drinks like milk tea. ---- Bonus ---- As I mentioned, they partner with Great Notion, one of our FAVORITE bars in the Bay with the best smoothie beers and stouts. Open air, a mix of food trucks, people hanging out, dogs everywhere, and that easy San Francisco energy where you can show up however you are and it fits. It never feels like a production, just a good place to land. We have eaten our way through a decent chunk of the trucks at this point, and that is half the fun. One day it is something messy and indulgent, the next it is lighter, but it always hits. Grabbing a drink, finding a spot at the picnic tables, and slowly settling in as the place fills up is kind of the rhythm. It is social without being overwhelming, lively without being chaotic. What keeps us coming back is how consistent it feels in the best way. It is easy, flexible, and always a good time whether you stay for an hour or lose an entire afternoon there. It is the kind of spot that turns into a routine before you even realize it, and honestly, we are not mad about it.

Beyond that, the food and drinks are all food truck based. They are all quite good, and there's a wide variety of items. This also means a good variety for folks with different dietary needs, because they are mostly picking their own food. I have always enjoyed my time here, whether it's on company dime or if I'm just hanging out with friends. I do wish that there are more heaters around for the colder days but that's just life in the bay! It can be kind of cold and foggy all seasons here, so if you have a solid group of folks I'd recommend reserving a spot with a fire pit. One more note: parking can be tough. You either have to circle around for street parking, or rideshare here.
