The steak taco was good. Sauce was amazing. Inside was clean. I personally prefer my steak taco to be cooked more medium. I have been here dozens of times. It is always fresh, fast and the prices are reasonable! Authentic El Salvadoran food (even my El Salvadoran friends go here). My favorite are the tamales de pollo, pupusas loco, and pan con pollo. You can eat in or carry out. They also deliver in a 4 mile radius with a $15 minimum purchase. There are a few small tables inside and an outdoor small patio with 1 table. They have an almost full bar with beer, wine and liquor. They also sell Margaritas, horchata, soda, juice, agua fresca, cafe, hot chocolate, and desserts. From tacos, quesadillas, ceviche, pupusas, soups, salads, , fajitas, burritos, wings, hamburgers, and even steak and cheese sandwiches - it's a nice variety for breakfast, lunch, dinner or late night. I went here for dinner one night, and it was really delicious! A hidden gem for sure Our server was really nice, he was able to help us whether we needed an extra bowl for soup, hot sauce, to-go boxes, or any water refills. He was great, and even gave my bf recommendations on what to get since it was his first time trying pupusas. We ordered two pupusas: Revuelta and Loroco (recommended by server) and both were very delicious! The size is fairly large compared to other places I've been. We liked the flavorful revuelta and crispiness of the loroco. The cabbage on side was great too and red sauce. We also got a Sopa de res to share. It was a big bowl, with a good amount of beef and veggies. This soup was definitely more than enough for 2 people (we took some leftovers for next day)! The taco carne was delicious, and the homemade sauces complimented the flavors well. Lastly, I always get a tamal de pollo and it was good as well. Overall, excellent spot for affordable food, quick service, and very kind and friendly staff. I appreciated that for dinner it was not too loud, and we could enjoy a delicious Salvadorean meal, friendly service, with generous portions for a very reasonable price. Check them out!! read more

Absolutely DELISH pupusa revuelta and pupusa de loroco. For only $3 each, two of these are enough to fill me up. They also come with a little slaw and sauce on the side. Also tried the tamale de pollo and it was moist and flavorful. The store itself had some seating but smelled kind of funky. So would recommend taking the food to go. I came here based on a Facebook recommendation and disappointed that I did. I got the tacos Hondurena and bean and cheese pupusas. The pupusas were flavorful but it was more dough than bean and cheese. Still, not a bad dish. The steak tacos, however: something tasted spoiled in them I don't know if it was a cheese the meat or something else but something just tasted off. Also the dish is extremely salty. I don't know if it was the meat or the accompanying sauces but my God this dish will raise your blood pressure. Service was friendly but I won't be repeating. read more

We've been waiting to try this place out. Love me sum Pupusas!!! I tried to order online but it was not happening so I picked up the phone and am glad I did. I was greeted by a very welcoming gentleman. He oooozed happiness and hospitality and was very engaging in conversation. I ordered some Pupusas, of course. both the Pupusa Revuelta (shredded pork, bean & cheese) and the Pupusa Ayote (zucchini & cheese) and both were delicious. The fillings were generous and I'm not sure why another reviewer said there was no cheese because ours were oooey gooey with cheese. We also got the Tamal de Pollo (chicken tamale), a side of guacamole (a little salty), Arroz con Leche (rice pudding), and Maranon (Tropical Cashew & Maranon fruit juice) & a Horchata (Morro seed drink with milk). Everything was so fresh and wonderful and the gentleman that took my order over the phone was genuinely happy to meet the person who he spoke with and was excited to give me my food! Had a number of bean and cheese pupusas here when I decided to check this place out. They were made fresh - came out hot with crispy cheesy edges, just the way I like. This is a great place for an inexpensive/filling lunch. I wish they had more of a variety, maybe some more meat options. Either way, the food here was great. I'll be back for my next pupusa craving. Finally got to try the pupusas here, and it didn't disappoint. I was surprised to see pancake sized pupusas for under $3, and tasted great at that. I got the loroco flower and loco which has everything. Great texture and skilleted just the right amount. The beef RES soup was also good and also included a big beef bone with a lot of meat. Interestingly enough, this dish tasted just like my mom's Cambodian oxtail and potato soup dish. I'll definitely be back to try their other stuff! read more

I was looking to explore some local food options and found this place. There is a decent amount of parking. I ordered the pupusa revuelta and the pupusa loca which came out piping hot. The biggest difference between the two was supposed to be that the loca has the loroco flower and zucchini. However, I think the flavor wasn't too strong since they both generally tasted the same to me. The salsa definitely elevates the pupusa flavor and the curtitdo (fermented cabbage) was pretty good too. If I ever feel like getting pupusa again, I wouldn't mind coming back here if I'm in the area. read more

Guys, this place is SO good... If you're in the area and have never considered trying a pupusa, allowed me to DROP KNOWLEDGE ON FOOLS. My husband tried this place first - pupusas are one of his favorite comfort foods. I, myself, had never tried them them and - if I'm being honest - thought the word sounded slightly NSFW. :) When we picked up his order, I was legitimately moved by how friendly and outgoing the staff was, and how much pride they took in keeping their restaurant spotless. Husband *loved* the food. Tonight, I had my first order. I got a revuelta - which is like a quesadilla, except imagine the beans, cheese, and shredded chicken are baked into the dough of a thick tortilla. The result is a delicious, pull-apart cheesy morsel. Lest for a minute you think this might make your mouth dry, there is a wonderful red sauce to accompany it (it tasted like a light, smooth salsa and was such a good compliment I kept dipping entire pieces of my revuelta in it. Additionally, we got a big bag of crisp, lightly seasoned and marinated cabbage which I actually really enjoyed; it tasted like something in between a mild kimchi and sauerkraut. I also tried some of a cheesy pupusa, which and I found to be more bland in flavor, but maybe when it's piping hot and gooey, I could see how it would hit the spot. (Why does this review still sound NSFW?) Anyway, I just kept raving to my husband about how good the meal was. I definitely plan to put this in our regular take-out rotation. Pretty good pupusas! I had the cheese and the crazy one. The weird thing was the packaging. The slaw was good and the red sauce was amazing! However, it was in the "street style" plastic baggies which made it a huge huge pain to try to open up without spilling everywhere. I know, I've been all over the world and it's classic presentation, but the containers cost a little more than he plastic baggies but don't spill. Maybe saving money on packaging is why the prices are so good and the portions very large! read more

Nice place. You go in, order your food, wait and eat. There is no gimmick to it, and there is no flashy scenery, and it does not try to be something it is not. The food is excellent, affordable and filling. The people who work there are very friendly to everybody. I visited this restaurant after returning from a trip to South America and it brought me right back. Papusas express serves amazing food, quickly and relatively cheaply. The inside of the restaurant is always lively and full of business. Obviously, the papusas are very good, but all of the traditional and side dishes are excellent as well. My favorites are the bean and cheese papusas, the ceviche, and the fried plantains. read more

This is the definition of Hole in the Wall . The nicest staff in the world. They have outdoor and indoor seating although it seems a very popular take out/delivery place. Get anything and you will love it. Great service, great food, great prices! I live the sopes, tacos, and of course, the pupusas. Each dish has so much flavor and a good portion! I had been passing by this place for some time, I decided to give this place a try & I do like Pupusas. First, call ahead, it takes like 20 mins to get your meals ready. I got a medium soup to go it was about $10. I swear they think they're the soup man cause I got the smallest container ever. I came here just to try it out. Today was our first and last time at Papusa Express. We went to the Alexandria location. I ordered takeout through their website, which was probably the best part of my experience with them. Not only did the order come out a solid 30 mins later than their promised time, but the papusas were 'meh' at best. Definitely not worth the hour total (from time of ordering online, which already gave them a 20 minute turnaround). The papusas lacked flavor, unless HAIR is a new garnish you're into. Yes. Hair. My husband got through about half of one before he began to pull out a long, dark, hair from his mouth. Disgusted but starving, he went in for another bite anyway, and another separate hair came with that bite too! I lucked out and didn't find the same fate in my food. Most of my papusas were more beans than the other fillings they were supposed to have. If you had told me these were just bean papusas, I'd have believed you. Anyway, I know it's a cheap and cheerful place to fill your belly but after our experience today, I don't think we'll be going back. Would've given them 2 stars but the hair nixed my generosity. read more

I've tried many pupusa joints in the area, and within restaurants, and this one is definitely on the top of my list. They pupusas are not overly greasy and they're fuller than most I've seen. In addition to the pupusas (we got revuelta and cheese-only kinds), we also ordered chicken nachos (very tasty meat!), chicken tamale (soft chicken and loaded with flavors) and the Nuegados for dessert (something I've never heard of before, but thoroughly enjoyed).
