We had a great meal at Pura Brasa. Everything we ordered was really good and you can tell the food is fresh and made well. Between me & my girl we tried a bunch of different things -- the Texas smoked sausage, guacamole, arroz de la casa, esquite, quesadillas, fish tacos, the 8 oz filet mignon, and the American wagyu burger. Honestly there wasn't a single thing we didn't like. The filet was cooked perfectly & came out on a hot plate. It will continue to cook if you leave it on the plate but they disclose that & give you an extra plate to transfer it to (some people complain about their steak being overcooked but in my opinion that's their own fault lol). The esquite and arroz de la casa were amazing, I'll order both sides every time I come back. Overall it was just a really solid meal. This is a review following 3 separate visits, for different occasions. We have sat both indoor & outdoor. Have gone for date nights as well as with family for a birthday. The staff is amazing & extremely helpful & kind. The food is tasty & served with love and attention to detail. This is a nice place to celebrate a special occasion & vibes make it always feel special. The cocktails are wonderful & I had the most delicious non alcoholic horchata ever. This is a little gem in an unexpected place. To a previous poster, I would say communicate if you would like something spicier. This couldn't be a more accommodating restaurant. If sitting indoor & using a wheelchair, it is recommended to call ahead so they can adjust table on the end near the bar. But this was quickly accommodated for us when we did not call ahead. Booking a table was super easy. They even call you personally to confirm your reservation. They asked if we were celebrating i replied we were, my birthday. When we arrived, the space is beautiful and spotless. Small but quaint. The flowers on the table had an elegant Happy Birthday pick. The server was so sweet and extremely patient. She recommended the horchata, i have NEVER had such a delicious horchata. We ordered choriqueso, guacamole, doraditas and texas smoked sausage. They came tostadas were good, the tortillas were delish but the sliced bread was amazing. I could not pick a favorite appetizer, they were all great! Our main courses were Zabuton and the flap meat. They came out sizzling and continued to do so. Our meals came with the option of mexican or house rice or beans. We had mexican and house rice. That house rice took me back to my childhood. The steaks were tasty as heck, served with grilled onions(i need to learn how to recreate them for the next carne asada).We also ordered Grilled veggies,which have options of broccoli, asparagus or stuffed peppers. We selected stuffed peppers, sooooo good. Their salsa! I almost forgot. They were fresh and authentic. At the end we shared a slice of carrot cake which was yummy. I will definitely be back. We chose to eat out in the patio , and got a roadside concert. Definitely not a fault of the business, just a bad location I guess. The service was friendly, but slow with infrequent check in's. Very overpriced, 3 tacos for $29... the service wasn't very good, it was slow. The horchata was the best thing on the menu, it was great. The steak queso was not good, the cheese was hard and the steak was chewy. The steak on our tacos and quesadilla was also very chewy! For our sides we got the corn, rice and potato. The potato was dry, the rice and corn were good. Overall, food wasn't great, especially the meat considering how expensive it was. Wouldn't recommend. Pura Brasa is such a great addition to Sumner! Genuinely surprised to see a few negative reviews as the food and ambiance were great -- we love that they're family owned too! The food was soooo good, super flavorful, with great presentation too. We had the guacamole casero and esquite to start - both were great and they serve complimentary salsa and pickled onions to the table too. For entrees, we had fish tacos (came with 3), tacos de lengua served with bone marrow and roasted vegetables, and the chicken mole poblano. All excellent! Really enjoyed our cocktails too - we tried the kiwi smash (a little sweet), the Cazuelita, Cuba, and Mezcalita de Jamaica (made non-alcoholic). I highly recommend! We have a monthly ladies night out where we select a nice restaurant to dine at together. We usually go to Seattle, Bellevue or Tacoma for our fancy dinner night. This time, we decided to stay local and we're glad we did! While the venue is small, the hospitality and flavors are big! Since there were 6 of us dining, we made reservations a couple weeks in advance (I recommend reservations for a group more than 4). We had the largest table in the back. We were sat without a reservation, but one may be necessary in the future, just in case. The menu resembles many of the other like restaurants out there (Asadero, Vue, etc), with the prices being just as steep. The only difference here is that they offer a burger and a Philly cheese steak, which...random for a Mexican menu but I guess not for the area. Ambiance was very nice and the servers were too. Our only complaints are the salsas, really. The itty-bitty-committee called and they want their containers back! You get, at most, 2 teeny tablespoons of very mild salsa. My husband asked for something actually Mexican and got served with habanero sauce...again, disappointing but tracks for the area. I really liked the meat in the papa rellena, and while my vampiros were good, the meat on those was less tender and savory. The best part were the tortillas de maiz...thick, soft and tasty! Was very dissatisfied with my dinner tonight. The main issue is most likely the person who served us. Three diners - 8oz ribeye, 16oz aged ribeye, and wagyu tacos. The tacos came with bone marrow and were very good. Both steaks came on a hot skillet, so basically still cooking. Both were ordered medium-rare but were medium-well when cut into. I believe the steaks overcooked due to staying on a hot skillet that needs to be delivered to the table immediately. Not a good design. Server never came back to check on us and I had to go to the counter to ask for a forgotten steak knife. Basically, $120 in overcooked steaks that lacked flavor. I had really high expectations about this place because i thought it would be like Cuerno Bravo in Tacoma or Asadero in Kent. But the place its really small overall, they have outdoor sitting but here in Wa its not something great. Now the food omg i have never been this disappointed, i have had Molletes before this ones were really bad, I got ribeye medium rare and it was so dry, had a baked potato and it was just not well cooked, we talked to the manager and the cook but they seem really annoyed and rude, i have been in other restaurants like "this" before like i have mentioned at first and it its not even close to them! I was genuinely excited to try Pura Brasa. The ambiance was great, and I appreciated the concept of firewood and charcoal cooking. However, a broccoli side dish -- was so aggressively smoky that it was inedible. I politely shared this feedback with our server, who was kind and understanding, but the $8 item was not removed from our bill. What truly shocked me came later -- a response from management that was not only unprofessional but intentionally sarcastic and humiliating. Instead of acknowledging my experience, I was told I should have Googled the meaning of the restaurant's name (as if that excuses serving food that's barely edible), mocked for not understanding their methods, and blamed for not requesting alternate cooking methods before ordering. The message ended with a justification that they couldn't remove the charge because "I have bills and employees to pay." I'm leaving this review not out of spite, but to warn other diners: if you don't enjoy overpowering smoke flavor, or if you expect respectful treatment when giving honest feedback, this may not be the place for you. A business that responds to criticism with personal jabs instead of professionalism is one I won't be returning to. read more
