I'm 54 , did the trial class .. and left my soul in the room . It was face paced and difficult . Yet decided it was worth it to continue going and to push myself . I've gone to 2 more classes and yesterday's was with both of my daughters .. which truly made my so happy to have something Right in our community that we can do together . For woman in mid life like me .. modify the exercises , slow them down , stop when you need to ... but keep going . I hurt uh places where I didn't know it was possible .. but I know it's working . Strength and flexibility are the bane of the game at my age and the variety of classes provide just that. Now the staff .. pretty young .. but all super friendly and wonderful . They even let me know that there are more women my age .. at the mid day classes through the week .Location usually has street parking if you're driving , merchandise for sale and facility is always need and clean . Disclaimer: this rating is for the sales experience, not for the actual studio classes/workout space. I created an account on the Pure Barre website as I am exploring options for studio Barre classes while on pause with my gym/health club membership during July. Over the course of only a few days I have been getting daily calls or texts inquiring about scheduling my free foundations class. I have taken classes on a drop-in basis at other PB locations in the past, however this overzealous selling experience has soured me on even walking through the doors of this location to take a class. I do appreciate the reply which I believe should have been done on the same day when issue happened, but I want to clarify a few things here, 1. I do not put up with being talked down in a condescending tone either. For example, when I explained to Monica that usually boutique studios allow 5 mins grace period, she immediately cut me off and said "Are you telling me how to run my business"? Seriously if Monica can handle this situation like Alayna and just apologize for potential missed Studio Welcome email instead of trying to gaslight me, this case wouldn't be escalated. - Reflect on your own behavior before you point fingers at others. 2. In terms of threatening, I did not threaten anyone and you can post all of my message and communication here for your potential customers who check out your business to make a judgement. All I said was that I need evidence, there's no "no entry" posted anywhere, I don't believe I'm wrong, and I would escalate and report to BBB which I did. However, one of your owner Brit threatened me that she "personally cancelled my membership" and "I own Bucktown, West Loop, Elmhurst and River North Studios - this cancellation will be effect for all locations involved". Isn't threatening? Also all conversations were initiated by your staff, and I replied to them. I was being harrassed. 3. Also it's a LIE to say that "Your membership has been canceled through the 3rd party service you were using with our studio". CHECK MY SCREENSHOT FROM Brittnay. She clearly said she "Personally canceled my membership" because she's the owner. - If you are not Brit or Monica, please verify with them. I also kept the message Monica sent me confirming that she canceled my membership without my agreement. Why would you emphasize third party service? You don't have to accept Gympass, Onepass and ClassPass customers, if you choose to, please treat all customers equally 4. Let's talk about the no late policy - I do believe your policy exists and I agree with your all your reasoning behind. So no need to repeat it. However, first of all, I literally stepped in within the same minute of 7:00pm sharp and I heard the instructor just starting the class. It's obviously not my intention to purposely come late and interrupt others, and I was happy with the solution Monica provided and I also apologized to Carolina because I believed it's a difficult situation for her to reject clients as well. The reason why I escalated it was because I did believe it was my fault to omit your official website and the welcome email as explained by Carolina and Monica. However, I went back home and checked your website carefully, including your IG, the contract I signed, there's nothing. So basically I was gaslighted. In terms of the classpass email, I took the first class at this studio on 12/19/2016. "Please come in 10-15mins ahead of time" is also a generic term for all classpass users and it's for first timers as well. I attached the screenshot of classpass email, and THERE IS NO "NO ENTRY" mentioned. It onlys says to come 10-15mins earlier to sign wavier. I did come here early on Oct 4 to sign the new waiver and new contract. The suggested time to come does not contradict with late entry grace period. You can still have suggested coming time while having different entry policies. (which a lot of studios do) Again I am not telling you to change your policy, and I'm not interested. And I agree with you if there's no receptionist there I could be locked out. Actually I would rather be just locked out instead of being gaslighted and talked down. I still don't understand how a customer facing business would assume customer is at fault without double checking. Isn't your goal to be profitable, successful and build the relationship with the community? 5. What I think really happened - Alayna did send me the welcome email on Dec 20 2023. This email was missed on Oct 4. However, the escalation is not about the no entry policy per se as I am satisfied with the solution. The escalation is more about being gaslighted with a few lies about the no entry policy. And you can also check my review in Google and Yelp with my updates. It's not me escalating the situation, it's your crew. I totally agree there are barriers between 3rd parties and your studio communication and I also understand people make mistakes just like your customers may come late occasionally. However, the problem isn't customers receive too many emails, it's that you don't have a SOP to make sure send all important emails to each customer. Again I don't disagree with your policy. But you are missing my point, this whole time. That's very unfortunate. At the end, I'm glad you mentioned that my experience provide your an opportunity to make the policy crystal clear. While I do support small business but I can't agree with the way your leadership handles customer relationship. read more

I would be way more understanding if there was communication about the situation but there is none. Corporate has been zero help, they put it back on the location who won't return messages. I've taken a few classes here and was optimistic. Love one of the teachers- Mia is amazing. But the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. One person will say one thing, but, when you go to follow up they say "no we can't do that, sorry, policy." - when I literally have the voicemail saved saying- yes we can do that no problem. I was really enjoying my classes too, so, now I'm stuck deciding if I want to frequent a place with less than adequate customer service, or take my business elsewhere. read more

Just stated here after a one week free trial which was excellent. The main reason for the 4 stars is the bathroom is hard to get to and no option to shower if you're going to a pre work or midday class that's a bummer. Instructors are all great. Also the membership only transfers to a few other studios around chicago because of different ownership which is also a bummer. read more

I really enjoyed the facility and the workout. It was super clean and covid compliant and the instructor was very patient. I've never done barre before and I felt like it was a safe learning environment for a beginner like me. She walked us through motions and helped us when we were struggling. I wish she told us that we should face the mirror so we could have chosen a better spot for the class but that was a pretty minor issue. I took a star off because the sticky socks were super expensive and they were quite persistent trying to get us to commit purchasing a package haha. read more

This studio closed permanently on April 1 with no warning to members and charged me for classes in the month of April, despite closing. I was unable to get in touch with the studio for a refund so I disputed the charge, and they are now invoicing me for the original monthly charge, a late fee, and a dispute charge. I've been a client at Pure Barre Chicago Downtown for a few years now (since 2014). I was a classpass member, who got hooked on, pretty much within the first couple of classes. I found Pure Barre to be challenging without being hard on my joints. It got me sweating without having to overexert myself, and potentially injuring myself in the process. It gave me a new perspective to working out, making working out enjoyable rathet than something  I would dread. The variety in class formats is another reason I love PB. The low impact HIIT Empower helps you get your cardio in and your sweat on. It is by far my favorite class to go to. Reform kicks butt (and core!) in a way I didn't even know was possible until I tried it.....super intimidated by it tbh.  The instructors are super hands on, friendly, kind and so helpful. They really motivate you to push you to do your best, while constantly reminding you to push yourself to your PERSONAL best on THAT day.  Having 2 studios, that are 0.5 a mile from each other to choose from, gives me even more opportunities to squeeze my workout into my day, which just makes it all the better.  Pure Barre has helped me get healthier, stronger and fitter. It's become a part of my lifestyle and definitely a big part of me. I love the studios, the workouts and the instructors, and can't recommend it enough read more

SO. SORE. This place is the bomb. Don't underestimate how challenging the workout is here! I went to the beginner's class on Sunday morning and within just 5 minutes of the workout, I felt my body burn in areas that I didn't think was possible to burn! The studio is very clean and the sound system is great- I felt super pumped throughout the whole routine and the instructor was extremely motivating and peppy! Emily, Shelbye and the rest of the PBRN family have done it again!! They've opened up a long-anticipated second studio in Streeterville, and what a welcome addition to the neighborhood. For those acquainted with the original location at Huron and State, PBSV is larger all around - they have a huge studio, with a lot more floor space, two dressing rooms and a sizeable area for retail, and just as they do at PBRN, the team makes exquisite use of every inch of space. Their caliber of teachers is still top notch - they hold themselves to such a high standard, and at this point now I've been to several other studios in CA, CO, LA and SC and can still back that statement up with honest to goodness personal experience. The other studios are great too, which is one of the great things for those who travel - a consistent, reliable workout to have - but Emily and Shelbye are just otherworldly with their attention to detail and presence in the studios! As for the class availability, I've been able to attend every class I've tried to sign up for - and the class packages are good for both SV and RN studios, so there's more than double the number of classes and instructors to choose from than before. I like that they added a 3:30 class here to accommodate the Northwestern employees nearby who requested it. Emily and Shelbye as owners continue to be incredibly responsive to feedback and super dedicated to their clients, and the incredibly diverse, interesting and inspirational community of LTB'ers (i'm not saying women because there are male regulars at each studio!) that they have created is what keeps me coming back every time, years after starting. Even though I get sidetracked by work and life sometimes, they're always there with a really great workout and a passion that's contagious. They also continue to release deals and packages periodically, which definitely help people who've already used up that first month special. Starting off the brand new studio is absolutely beautiful and SO spacious, the schedule is so fitting for anyone from your working 9-5er to an early riser with a new 5:45am choice and it's great because every instructor you love from Pure Barre River North also teaches at Streerteville regularly. Not only am I a huge Pure Barre advocate for many reasons from anything from stress relief to the sense of love and community it brings to my life - the PB Streeterville/River North team truly elevates all of that to a new level. The owners (Emily and Shelby) are so incredibly loyal to their customers, I have never once had an issue with my memberships/packages. They are always happy to honor and fix issues and they certainly make it known they are there to make us happy. Emily, Abbey, Sarah, Melissa S and Jess are amongst some of the best fitness instructors I've ever come across through all types of fitness programs I've been a part of. PB can be a tricky workout, especially when you're new to the community, every single instructor is so informative, answers questions, and stays around after class to take the time to chat with each and every student that may have questions about something that we just did in class. Everyone at PR Streeterville/River North is ALWAYS extremely approachable, friendly and very open - it gives you such a sense of ease and comfort. I don't care if you've never taken a Pure Barre class or if you're on your 250th class, get your thighs shakin' at the new Streeterville location - it's become one of my second homes... it won't disappoint! read more

I love PBSV/RBRN! This workout is the best! The instructors are fantastic, welcoming, friendly and the classes are always a challenge. The Barretenders who manage the desk are super friendly and helpful. They offer many contests, prizes, promotions, and special events to keep things exciting. They also switch up the workout curriculum regularly and the classes never get repetitive or boring, yet you can always expect a solid workout. Pure Barre Streeterville is the second studio by Shelbye Ortale and I personally prefer this one over the River North studio, as it's newer, more spacious, more traditionally laid out (rectangular), and most importantly, across the street from home and work. Sarah Lund, manager and instructor extraordinaire, is THE BEST. With limited comparison to the Boston Newbury Street Pure Barre, I really enjoy the feel of this spacious studio. I'm usually the only guy, but the instructors and Barre Tenders have made me feel welcome and I've really embraced the results of this place. It's a fun way to work on core and general tone, and as a guy, I only wish more men would be open to this place. There's no social stigma, and no judgment. Guys will work on things they'd never do at a gym, and enjoy it without even thinking about it. I started coming because of the Bring on the Men classes (my wife has done 500+ classes), and I feel like with more of these, they'd be able to attract a greater audience. They generally serve beer at the end so there's something to look forward to no matter how much suffering occurs. I love both the regular and Platform classes, but for guys looking to check it out for the first time, I think Platform is a bit more intuitive if you've ever taken a bootcamp or other high intensity class. They'll explain the "tuck" thing. It's pretty intuitive once you see it in action... In any event, it's all about being open-minded, willing to push your limits while trying something new, and I can pretty much guarantee that you'll have a great time and get a lot out of your workout. Its awesome cause its walking distance from Northwestern Hospital so early birds (like myself) can catch a quick 55-min LTB session before work. Plus, its beautiful, very clean, so spacious, has a large bathroom and 2 changing rooms with toiletries! Even better, FABULOUS clothing/accessories to for retail! Shortly after Emily and Shelbye open their first studio in River North, I started going... it was my first time ever doing barre and now its part of my daily life. It is the BEST 55 MINUTE WORKOUT EVER! If you stick with it, Pure Barre gives you guaranteed physical results-- flexibility, strength, muscle toning and definition. Mentally, you're more aware of your body and feel so empowered and strong. Its essential to my lifestyle and addicting! I highly recommend taking a class here! One of the best things I love about PBSV is the community of people it brings together. I've been to many Pure Barre studios since I live in New York but travel home to Chicago quite frequently. And between them all, this location stands out. The studio is clean (you'd be surprised by some of my other experiences). The weights, tubes, and balls are in good condition. It is organized, and the layout MAKES SENSE. There's also plenty of room, and you don't have to be awkwardly spaced or cramped. And, above all, the staff is friendly and welcoming to new faces. That combination means I aways look forward to coming here. read more

I am extremely upset. I got there at 7:00 and the door was locked. The class started at 7 so while I understand the class should start on time, there would be someone at the desk while the class is going on. I paid for the class ahead of time and for parking nearby. I left my house at 6 o'clock- mind you I like maybe 15 mins away-and for me to get there and the doors to be locked and no one to let anyone else in is unacceptable as a customer. There was also another customer checking the doors to get in. Someone should be at the front desk while the class is going on. I was so excited to try this class and this incident has turned me off to Pure Barre entirely. I am extremely disappointed. read more

I am always concerned I am not doing the positions correctly but Nathalie helped correct my form while also motivating me and I could immediately tell the difference. About 2 months ago was my first experience with attending a Pure Barre class. This workout is challenging, but by far my favorite in comparison to other fitness programs. Sarah and Annika are hands down the greatest instructors at this studio. They make you feel comfortable with the workout routine and are very motivational. I've been going to barre classes for a total of 5 months (including at River North) and have been very pleased with the results. If you are willing to do the work, the results will come. I was thrilled when the owners opened this facility since it is very convenient from my apartment. As far as availability, I have never had an issue. First, the few months since opening have been packed due to the grand opening special. That initial 'rush' has largely subsided. Generally, I have found that if I wait-listed, I would get in the class nearly every time. The studio itself is very spacious and the instructors are always attentive to helping you get the most out of the class. Staff goes out of their way to make the experience the best it can be. For those not familiar with barre, it is intensive but largely low impact upon the joints which has been a big plus. I would recommend this studio to anyone interested in getting toned and fit. read more

I went to my first Pure Barre class about a month ago and now, can't imagine my life without it! The class itself is so intense that I feel myself burning and shaking to a new improved me. The Streeterville studio is run so well- I couldn't be more impressed. I was completely out of shape upon going to my first class that I literally almost passed out. The entire staff (especially Sarah and Danielle T) are so knowledgeable and welcoming. They really take the time to get to know you and help you one-on-one during class no matter your skill set (I literally walked in with none!). It's a great addition to the neighborhood. I love the variety of the classes. Several new warm ups and abdominal routines have been added so it's fun to see what you get. The studio is spacious and has cute merchandise. The staff is very friendly. All of the instructors are very good. Sara Lund is especially terrific! All are welcomed with open arms! The first thing (among many) That I love about Pure Barre Streeterville, is that they are so accommodating to all people at all levels of fitness. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, they will work to give you modification of each move if you need something less or more challenging, or if you have any injuries. I love that they are there before and after class so you can ask them a question if you couldn't get a move quite right. You don't feel like you have to rush out as a new class is rushing right in, as I have felt at other workout studios. They always connect with you and seem to genuinely want to see you come back and enjoy Pure barre. I also enjoy the way you can continue to challenge yourself even after several classes, there are modifications to make it harder. The moves change from class to class so you aren't bored. There is definitely a sense of community and camaraderie. Others in class are friendly and supportive and the staff check in with you to see how you are liking class and progressing in different areas. As they get to know you, they will remember more and more about you and make you feel more at home. I personally recommend trying to take 3-4 classes a week, that is where I noticed the most improvement in my strength and form. I also highly recommend taking the "breaking down the barre" seminar class whenever it is offered, it really helps you understand each move better and improve on your form. read more
