I won't lie, I have not been a fan of the coffee, and I've been a few different times. Most recently, I've gotten a mocha, vanilla latte, and a dirty chai. The service is really friendly, so I was sad about it. Also, their new location is cute in the front, but dark and not very aesthetic in the back and the seating was oddly spaced from the tables (at the booths) or not very comfortable. We visit Rapid City a couple times each year, and this has recently been a favorite stop. In January, we stopped for coffee, a latte, a bagel sandwich, and a walnut roll. Everything was great. I had their drink called the Rattler. It hit the spot and was exactly what I was looking for in a cold drink! I'm not a big fan of sweetener and was pleased with the perfect flavor of this drink. When I arrived the line was long but not because the drinks weren't coming out quick. I was greeted with a smile and a warm hello. Customer service was great and the atmosphere was five star as well. I love finding local independent coffee shops on my trips. Yelp pointed me to Pure Bean near downtown Rapid City. This is a nice cool coffee shop in a hip part of town. Parking is decent although you may need to park on the street. This place is a nice upscale place to get you coffee and linger. The facility is in an old warehouse with nice windows and an eclectic decor. Pure Bean has a full coffee bar and lots of fresh made treats. Service was what you would expect with a gourmet coffee experience. I had a espresso and a lavender shortbread cookie. Both were delicious but it was nice to just sit and relax with the local cool people for a while. There are two rooms to sit divided by a nice fireplace. Seating is a little hard so lingering may take a strong midwestern body. I visited several places in the area and kept coming back to Pure Bean for the coffee and the experience. They have a few locations in the area, but this downtown one is pure cool and will instantly make you feel better even after a day of sightseeing! read more

We always prefer places that roast their own coffee. Tried the Cardigan and Hepburn. Both were lovely. Strong coffee taste, yet very smooth as well. Good milk; they came in bottles, maybe local. Average price for boutique coffee. Strong darker brew. Delicious! Helpful, happy, friendly staff. A 12 ounce bag of unground beans is a great souvenir to take home. I hate to say this but Pure Bean just wasn't a hit for us. Followed my gps but I just didn't think the building was very clearly marked. Drove around to the side of the building before I found it. Arrived about 9:15am on a Saturday. There was only one other customer inside when we got there. We ordered hot vanilla lattes and an iced caramel latte. Maybe we should have chosen a store speciality drink because they were just not good. Vanilla lattes had an off flavor. We only drank about 1/2 and then threw them away. My daughter had a caramel latte which was just mediocre. Service was ok but nothing over the top. Didn't really welcome us and seemed almost bored working there. With all the great reviews I was hoping it would have been better but I must have just chosen the wrong drinks. :( read more

Wow!! I honestly have never tasted coffee this good. I was amazed by the taste of this lattee! The service was good too, and the workers are all dressed nice, and they keep themselves busy. The espresso machines are not loud, and its a great place to stop and enjoy some amazing coffee and charge your phone if you are traveling! Love this place! Been here two times and each time is just quality. The service is impeccable, when they recommend a drink you know it is going to be delicious. The hot drinks are served at the perfect temperature so it's ready to sip as soon as the mug touches your hands. The cold drinks are also very good for those hot days - the last time I visited I tried the iced orange mocha which hit the spot. This place needs to be on your list when you go to Rapid City. I suggest asking the people working there what is good, again, they won't let you down.
