In the 'before days' pre covid pandemic I believe Blue Hen offered cooking classes in their…read morecommercial kitchen located in Boise's North End. But I discovered Blue Hen during 2020 when buying their delicious shortbread cookies for myself and as gifts. (Available via the Boise Farmers Market order ahead and drive through to pick up option or directly from Blue Hen.) The cookies are from tiny to small in size and come in savory or sweet varieties in creative flavor combinations and are as beautiful as they are delicious. They are also expensive. I am the kind of consumer who appreciates artisan product using top quality ingredients, as is so in these cookies, and the perfect fit of their unique packaging is delightful too. I am also the kind of consumer who virtually never makes a comment about prices being high, but for these cookies the prices really are that. Were I to get these as a gift I would be delighted. I know the people I gifted them to were. But to buy them for myself again at this price, probably not. Just as the people I gifted them to said "what?" when they checked price to consider buying some. That is not a criticism of the producer for needing to set a price that makes sense for them to be profitable as costs of ingredients rise. It is simply a fact that these cookies are luxury items at $13 - $39 box. See photos. https://www.bluehencooking.com/shop

The other person there was great though! I was drawn in by the array of unique flavors and vegan options. I had really wanted to get something boozy and vegan, but they only had one flavor on at the moment that fit the bill and I wasn't particularly interested, so I sampled a few of the dairy boozy flavors and went with a vegan non-boozy ice cream for my actual order because a full scoop of dairy ice cream does not sit right in my stomach. I liked the boozy flavors more but that was only because of the flavors offered - the vegan ice cream itself was great, very smooth and creamy, not overly sugary. I got the float season vegan ice cream: blackberry ice cream with salted dark chocolate. I did still enjoy this flavor a lot. I really liked the crunchy bittersweet dark chocolate bits. I didn't get anything to drink but I was kind of tempted. The ice cream + beer or wine flights looked interesting. I don't know wine well enough to comment, but it looked like they had a good selection of beer with quality brewers and a good variety of beer types. This is technically a Warehouse Food Hall vendor but it's only accessible from the street outside the food hall. I wasted a few minutes wandering around the food hall trying to find it before I looked outside. They have a fair amount of seating inside and outside.
