Pronounced [bee-AH-lee] and Jewish-American in origin, the Food Lover's Companion notes say "this large, very chewy large yeast roll is round and flat with a depression in the center. The bialy is sprinkled with chopped onion before baking. The name comes from the Polish city of Bialystok." I love, love the version that Goldstein's makes, loaded with caramelized thin strings of onion in the middle. Already a matte finish light golden brown on the outside: it is well paired with butter, or my favorite, a schmear of veggie cream cheese. One difference between a bagel (boiled and baked) and a bialy is that it's only baked yielding a crunch. My wife prefers the Everything bagel, toasted with melted butter. If I splurge, the Bagel Shop Reuben or the Kosher Style Deli with pastrami, mustard and a kosher pickle hit the spot with intense flavors. Both are $13. The black & white cookies remind me of Junior's 1515 Broadway New York, NY, although smaller than their oversize version. You'll also find lox options, and other smoked fish plus an array of nostalgic canned and bottled drinks, coffee and can even order a Ubet's chocolate egg cream soda. I felt like this place was a little overrated. Absolutely pass on the hot honey bagel! The pickles were overpowering and we ended up wasting most of it. Egg and Cheese was nothing to write home about. I would be interested to try just the regular bagels with a spread, but as for the sandwiches I would pass. The staff are knowledgeable and they even let you sample the cream cheese if you're not sure what you want. They also have postcards here you can write and they'll send it on your behalf! I'm always looking for dope spots to grab breakfast at and Goldstein's was today's place. It's downtown which is convenient since I work down the road from this shop. Walking in, this place was buzzing! There were a good amount of patrons hanging out and enjoying their food. Employees working and stocking stuff. I liked that they have menus on the counter that you can grab and look at. After checking out all the goodies they offered, I decided on the hot honey and crispy ham bagel sammy. It was hard not to be overwhelmed by all the fun stuff they had on the counters and in the display cases. The bagels were beautifully displayed for you to pick from. All the bagels looked so good! They have a variety of smoked salmons, cream cheeses and baked goodies that you can check out. It was hard to not want to touch and look at everything. Of course the sticker display and candy basket was my favorite. I got my sammy ordered by the sweet gal and just hung out till it was ready. There are a lot of seating options and outdoor seating which will be nice when the weather gets nicer! A busy as it was inside, it had such a go with the flow, chill vibe to it. The hot honey and crispy ham was so good! And the pickles added a nice crunchy addition to the sammy. The honey was sweet, hot and sticky. The ham was thin and salty. It's honestly such a good combination of savory and sweet. The bagel soaked up all the goodness from the honey and was extra wet so make sure you have a good amount of napkins on you! I have evidence that I tore up a juicy bagel all over my sweatshirt. I had such a good experience here and my sammy was fantastic! The bagel was crispy on the outside and just the right amount of chew on the inside. The cream cheese spread was generous and flavorful. The servers are all extremely friendly and helpful, and even helped us sample the house made cream cheeses. The Szechuan Chili Crisp & Garlic Scallion cream cheeses are very solid choices. Usually, a wait for bagel sandwiches wouldn't be an issue at all, but we sat there waiting for a bag of bagels to be packed while three employees stood behind the counter talking to each other. Hyped up bagels for sure. Is it worth it? Depends on what you expect. A bagel and cream cheese runs about $5 each. It includes a nice amount of cream cheese on a toasted bagel. I ordered an egg onion bagel with lemon dill cream cheese plus a side of egg salad. Bagel was fresh. Crispy on the outside, soft inside, dense and dry but not bad. The onion flavor was understated but undeniable. The lemon dill cream cheese was perfected with salt, lemon, and dill whipped into the cream cheese. The egg salad was dry and disappointing in texture but taste was ok. They needed to add a tad more mayo. My friend ordered a 1/2 loaf of cinnamon bread which rang up at $14!!!!!! No, what? Overall its food seems good but not life changing. Pricey for sure but on par as far as for sandwich prices around town. read more

My daughter and I love bagels. Our love affair started well before our trip to NY last year. In Meridian we've been patrons to Blue Sky, Freedom and Sarah's. She recently told me about Goldstein's so an impromptu visit was in order. I had my Mom in tow when pulled up to a parking spot right front. It's a beautiful bagel shop. The baskets with the bagels at eye level behind the counter grab your attention. What I noticed as well was a number of flavors not usually stocked like Egg, Black Salt, and Garlic The cream cheeses are in the case visible for the customers to review. There are even vegan cream cheeses that were offered. Yay! Break for a story time. I grew up in Carmel, California and was very fortunate to have the Bagel Bakery within Mongoose riding distance. With OP corduroy shorts and knee socks with sneakers. Rising my Mongoose bike to the Bagel Bakery several times a week was ritual and rite of passage. Kuperman's Delight with the veggies and the sprouts was my favorite I ordered a 1/2 dozen of bagels and a Rueben on a Garlic bagel for my Mom It did take some time, but her Rueben on garlic bagel was in her words, freaking delicious. The black salt bagel in the brown paper bag whispered to me like a siren from the sea. I succumbed to the call, and ripped off bite chunks and peacefully enjoyed my bagel bliss I would love to go back and sit down outside with a bagel and coffee or juice and watch the world go by. Great bagels! If you've had a NY bagel then this is the closest you'll get. You order at the cashier, pay and they give you a number and bring out the food. Paid parking on the street and weekends get busy. Would def go back. Minus one star for the staff having food stains all over their clothing. Kinda yuck. I get you're working with food but optics are everything and people in line have nothing else better to do then stare. Almost all of the food preparers had messy shirts and pants. Today, 07/19/2023, I grabbed the aptly named "Spicy Boi" sandwich - fried egg, delicious Tasso ham, Szechuan cream cheese, spicy chili crisp and microgreens, $11.00. Oh my God I have no idea how I'm ever supposed to try anything else because this was beyond delicious. The fried egg was rich and velvety, complementing the bold flavors of the ham. The Szechuan cream cheese infused a unique and tantalizing kick, elevating the overall taste profile. I've got to get my hands on a tub! As part of the great bagel search of Southern Idaho, I stopped in for a "Lights out Lewy" which is called the New Yorker sandwich at Goldstein's other CA locations. OK, same stuff as the other bagel shops in the Treasure Valley - lox, cream cheese, tomato, capers, sprouts, red onion and in my case an onion bagel. So why the $14.00 price tag ($14.84 with tax) without the tip? The EXACT same thing sells at your CA locations for $8.90. Why are you bilking Idahoans 37% more with higher prices? Is it possible that your CA locations of Pasadena and Arcadia have lower labor and facility costs? We, the local customers know that isn't true. Are the taxes on your business lower in CA? We, the local customers know that isn't true. Are there more salmon in CA or Idaho? Are there no sources for cream cheese, red onions or tomatoes in Idaho? So why the huge price gouging? Maybe it is because Good Times Bagel is getting away with charging the same $14 for the same thing and the North Enders are proud to be overcharged! This study of bagel shops is not done, but so far it has been very revealing. Big Sky Bagels are still charging $8.40 for the same sandwich which is remarkably close to what you charge in CA. Maybe you just picked the wrong business model to mimic. I passed by a Blue Sky Bagel shop that afternoon and picked up 10 "day old" bagels for $3. There should be double the meat in the standard sandwich at $16 and I would likely have a heart attack at what I might receive at the "big boi style" rate for $6.50 more. If you are a female who weighs 100lbs or a child this might do, but for any working men out there you might go broke trying to fill up. Could slam 3 of these no problem. Having just moved to Boise from Manhattan, I was so excited to see another NYC transplant had opened up a bagel shop near my office downtown. The staff are warm and the space is incredibly inviting. First visit was for bagel and lox -- both terrific but I had asked for a toasted bagel and didn't get it. Second visit was for bacon egg and cheese and the cashier helpfully recommended one of their ow creations which came with an SPK option, making me feel like I found a slice of home right here in downtown.
