Phil is amazing to work with. I hired him to DJ and emcee for a company event we had in the North Bay, and I'll admit I was probably a nightmare to work with. If I was him, I would've hated me. But Phil and his office manager Natasha were the nicest people ever. They were professional, accommodating, responsive to emails, and super organized. I found him via Google and called him up. After our first phone conversation, Phil emailed me a packet with a cover letter, two different contracts for the two packages I was deciding between, a list of services, a list of references, event insurance information, and some other paperwork. I was impressed. I even called a few of his references and everyone I spoke to had nothing but praises for him. And that was all BEFORE the event! On the day of, Phil arrived early to set up and look over the DJ script I provided him. The event went smoothly and I thank him for his role in that. Thanks so much to Phil, he was great all night. We had a complicated scene going on, where Phil was doing lighting, mics, speakers, music, karaoke, and working with an outdoor venue where electrical outlets were sparse. He handled everything smoothly. He made the right announcements at the right times and with a minimum of speaking, which was good for us, since we didn't want a DJ who our guests didn't know to be droning on and on. He managed the flow of the party very well. He was friendly and fun to work with the whole time, from our first meeting with him in his office through the whole wedding day. In the end we decided to have a professional wedding DJ rather than a DJ friend or someone off of craigslist do it, b/c they MC'd when it was time for the first dance and to cut the cake, etc., and somehow made it not cheesy. Phil Trau was an outstanding DJ at our wedding. We were very picky and prescriptive- had a definite vision for the music and needs at our wedding. It probably also doesn't help that I work in events, so have a bunch of experience working with great production vendors. Phil met and exceeded pretty much every one of my expectations. Phil's website is on point- so easy to find and enter all of the songs you want him to play at your event, and rank them according to how much you want to hear them. The site is awesome. So well designed and helpful! You can keep coming back and adding to it as new requests or ideas come through, and he keeps everything organized and recorded so you never have to worry on the day of. Phil is easy to work with, not intent on being too much of a presence if you don't want him to be. He kept the dance party going at our wedding, and didn't waste time with announcements or fillers- which was really important to us. He was very professional and- perhaps most importantly to me- he wasn't needy about details. Wow! I am still getting comments from guests that our wedding was the best wedding they had ever been to and Kenny was the best DJ they had ever seen. Kenny was incredible. He read the crowd so well and incorporated our must-plays seamlessly. My husband and I love all types of music and he was able to incorporate a little of everything at different times throughout the night. Everything fit together so well. I saw people that I have never seen dance out on the floor. From my grandmother to the flower girl, everyone was dancing. Someone even broke a glass on the dance floor ,which should have brought things to a halt and made it difficult to get back into the dancing. Kenny was perfect. He paused until it was cleaned up, then started in with a soft "a little bit louder now, a little bit louder now" until the whole crowd was jumping and dancing again. Very smooth! Also, Phil set up our lights and they were incredible. They made the whole wedding feel like a dream. A couple guests told us they felt like they were in a movie. I hired Phil first off because he seemed like a very easy person to work with, and was very flexible about how to DJ the wedding (unlike competitors who tried to 'dictate' the timeline for me). I'm glad I went with my instinct! Phil and Natasha were very responsive about setting up meetings and handling the admin stuff, and Phil did an amazing job at the music and DJ'ing of the wedding. Did I mention he also does awesome uplighting which gave the otherwise very beige ballroom some COLOR?! Definitely worth a little extra $$ to change the whole feel of the room. They even use this website that allows you to look through their music catalog to add or request. Our wedding was the best day of my life, except for the music. Pure Energy is pure garbage. We told the DJ that we had two artists that we'd really like to hear at our wedding and you know what he did? He put their greatest hits albums on and walked away. I made special requests for songs that were never played and the owner made it out to be our fault when we complained. This service sucked. Since their website said they could run game shows, we took advantage of their skill set and asked them to run a goofy jingles game for guest dinner entertainment and they were so accommodating and ran with it! Our guests danced all night long and the song ordering was so well done and helped draw the crowd out. We are also so glad we rented the projection system for our slideshow and subsequent dancing entertainment, as well as Pure Energy's services with courtyard string lighting and their open air photobooth!
