It was sweet like maple but did not taste any bourbon. Thats fine though, some places go over board with the bourbon. The lady behind the counter was beyond nice and had a great personality, especially with the girls with us. This place was super cute and the lady that helped us was so sweet. There were many different options and we enjoyed picking out some different flavors to try. I got a variety and found them appropriately rich and nuanced in flavor, with the mint being peppermint-y as advertised and the pure chocolate flavors delivering the goods. Randomly came across this little chocolate shop during our travels around Columbus. Loving dark chocolate and small batch creations, we were super excited to try a selection of small truffles and compare them to our favorites. Pure Imagination certainly has some delicious pieces! We ended up trying an assortment which included honey, espresso, milk and dark chocolate, wild blueberry and gouda, coconut and raspberry rose. While some flavors didn't totally stand out (espresso and blueberry and gouda) they were overall extremely tasty treats. They have such a large range of options there is something for everyone. Prices were also reasonable with a box of 8 for about $15. Service was friendly and helpful, don't be afraid to ask for their recommendations. What a cool find tucked away in an unobtrusive location on Grandview! I happened to notice it while I was across the street at the dentist - lol! The interior of the store is very plain. They had a large display space on the right with shelves, but they were all empty. They seemed to have a gelato area which was also empty. Overall, it felt kind of deserted except for the chocolates displayed in two medium sized display cases. In the back they have a large area where chocolates were actively being made (what a cool thing!). The staff member was very down to Earth and friendly and explained that she makes some of the chocolates herself. Prices were pretty reasonable - $14.95 for a box of eight. We tried a sampling of assorted flavors. Many of the chocolates have cool, decorative art on top while others are more plain. The quality of the chocolate seemed very good. The flavors inside were very mild and didn't overwhelm the flavor of the chocolate nor were they overly sweet. Flavors range from the fairly simple (Tahitian Vanilla) to the more exotic (Blueberry Gouda). Overall, they were all delicate and delicious. It's a bit out of the way, but Pure Imagination is worth a visit! read more

The service was great and the guy who made the chocolate (Daniel) said i had good taste and picked all of the good combinations for the truffles i got. The spicy one, the lemon sage, the blueberry Gouda, the bananas foster, the chocolate orange...he was so happy to see me get all of them and he seemed very into and passionate about which i thought was really sweet. I would definitely go back. The vibe was good and the chocolate was delicious price was 16 truffles for 36 dollars and some change. If you don't like the price idk what to tell you, don't be cheap if you want to enjoy nice things because some of those things are going to cost a little more but this was worth every penny. read more

Chocolates with a personal touch. I was on my way back home, and saw PI's awning ahead. I decided to swing into the open parking spot right outside their front door and check it out - why not. The lady working, Mary, was a breath of fresh air. A genuinely spunky, upbeat ball of enjoyment. She only works part-time - she's friends with the owner - but was heard at work turning, packaging, and lots of odds and ends. All the truffles and chocolates! So many colors. So many flavors. Everything's made from scratch. PI moved to this location four or five years ago (from the North Market's corner stall) for more space. They take orders from several local businesses and holiday orders, in addition to the foot traffic. I was planning to make this a "look only" stop, but I caved in. I picked up a big, and I mean eat-this-thing-in-sections-cause-it's-so-big-size milk chocolate covered peanut butter egg. At just over $8, I thought this was quite steep, but didn't have the heart, nor self discipline to change my mind. Oh, and PS: That egg is to die for!! Creamy as all get out. Wonderful rich peanut butter taste (none of that cheap-ass pure sweet sugar/no nut taste)! If I lived by here, or worked here, well, I'm sure the words "I'll pass" would be extremely hard to muster. I have enjoyed visiting Pure Imagination Chocolatier at the North Market many times over the years, but today was the first day that I have visited the Grandview location. It was very easy to find with clear signage from the street. Parking was available on the street as well as a nearby parking lot behind several of the other stores. When I walked into the store with my friend, I was very impressed with what I saw. There was a gelato display, a display of chocolate confections, a display of truffles, and another display of other treats. The presentation was amazing! We also had the pleasure of meeting Daniel Cooper, the chocolatier behind Pure Imagination Chocolatier. The smells and the few chocolates we got for ourselves were a pure delight and reasonably priced. I also bought a large box of truffles to bring home to share with my family. It was very difficult narrowing down the list, and Daniel patiently helped me with my decision-making by pointing out what was unique with each truffle. To summarize my experience, it was wonderful, and I look forward to returning back to Pure Imagination Chocolatier during my next trip to Columbus!! read more

I walked in to a sort of empty store- only one large glass case was full but there was an empty one nearby and an empty ice cream cooler as well. Empty shelves all around. I waited for about four minutes before a nice smiling woman came to the front. I accidentally offended her by asking "Are ya coming or going?" wondering about whether she was remodeling or going out or business. I am real sorry to her for coming off rude- I really didn't mean to! She held up her R arm in a black brace and said she'd gotten a bit behind recently- yikes!! For having one usable hand she is doing a heck of a great job. I got four truffles for just under $8. These were- I kid you not- the best tasting most genuinely chocolatey truffles I've ever had in my short 28 years! The roasted coconut was so toasty and nutty, the theobroma I can't even remember because I wolfed it so inappropriately fast, and the cinnamon and honey ones were to die for! I am serious when I say this chocolate has the most legitimate cocoa taste and texture you'll find anywhere close. A must visit. read more

Took my mom for an early Mother's Day treat, we met the owner Danny(awesome person) and tasted some wonderful chocolate before leaving with our purchases. REAL TALK: I did look at all the reviews, before deciding to take my mom here, who is a bonafide choc-a-holic from grocery store to Vosages. This place ooze of the smell of chocolate when you open the door, when we stepped inside we saw Danny pouring, yes pouring, chocolate nibs into this lady's hands with a scoop it looked like something out of the movies. I then watched my mom eyes light up when it was her turn and he was just as nice and funny, Danny exudes a Sugar Sweet personality giving her tastes of great tasting chocolate and helping her pick through the many selections based on her taste buds. My mom left giddy and almost skipped to the car, I haven't seen her this happy in a long time, the whole experience will keep me coming back. Daniel is the Chocolate Doc, this man helped me over the phone to pick out the perfect spread of Chocolate for Valentine's Day. He's friendly, knows his stuff and quite funny. I don't really know too much about chocolate, I like it all, but I do know a thing or two about customer service and this guy's got it figured out. The chocolates were also delicious I'd heavily recommend the Blueberry Gouda (almost like a decadent cheese cake) and the Blood Orange Mimosa but you really can't go wrong here. We got around 10 chocolates and most of them were delicious. The only one we didn't care for was a lavender one, but that was a risky choice anyway. Take his recommendations though! Dropped in here the other night on my way to something else, in hopes of finding a B-day gift for a friend.... and it worked out very well, may I add. The young lady on staff, though, new, was very friendly and helpful. She happily gave me explanations on pricing, the make up of the various candies, and suggestions for what I could do in regards to the gift I needed. They offer quite a range of interesting items, too, including bags of chocolate coated nuts and such, tasty looking cakes, and of course a whole range of truffles and clusters that are priced by piece or pound, depending. Along with classic combinations like chocolate and raspberry, chocolate and peanut butter, and chocolate and mint, there are also some interesting variations such as blueberry and gouda, key lime, white chocolate mango clusters, and chocolate coated potato chips. In short, there's something for anyone, really. Presentation is very nice too, with very pretty truffles and decoration on the chocolate bars. I haven't heard yet from the friend how she liked her sweets, but I was very impressed by the ones I bought for myself. I'm especially fond of the milk chocolate, which melts in your mouth with plenty of flavor and a nice, smooth texture. But both flavors are very good, and the shop offers little samples of the chips they melt down to make their candies to help you decide which way to go. The biggest problem I have was parking, but that might because I'm unfamiliar with the area and not a big fan of parallel parking on busy streets. If you can find a spot, though, it's definitely worth checking out. read more

Earlier this year I was gazing wistfully at the chocolates in the display case at the North Market location of this shop, and noticed that they had some chocolates stenciled with sheet music patterns. Since my sister, a pianist, is graduating this spring, I made a mental note to come back and get a box or two for her reception. Fast-forward to the week before the reception and I made a quick run to the North Market to get a couple boxes of the musical themed chocolates. Unfortunately, there were only a few left in the display case, but the lady working the booth offered to call to their Grandview location. They offered to bring more over in later in the afternoon, or I could go over to Grandview, where there were plenty in stock. I had to zip off to work, but the next day I drove over to Grandview. The chocolatier was working in the back, and apologized for the wait once he made it up to the front counter. I asked about getting a couple boxes of the music note chocolates, and he remembered me from the previous day's call, and had boxes already made up for me! He even discounted them for the trouble of having to come to this location instead of the North Market, without me asking or indicating that it had been any inconvenience. Everyone at the reception loved the chocolates, even the family members who can be very discerning about their sweets. The chocolate are definitely pricey, but the quality and the service are outstanding. I'm more likely to go back to the North Market location due to proximity, but I'm happy to head over to Grandview if I don't find what I need. read more

I'm not quite the artisan chocolate fan because I usually enjoy my chocolate in larger quantities. But I do think this store has a place, especially a place that is down the street from the behemoth that is Jeni's ice cream. We had a dessert item (I think it was a tart of some sort) and some gelato. The fact that I can't recall the dessert item may indicate something. I do recall that it tasted good, but nothing to write home (or on yelp) about. Also I still need time to appreciate the consistency of gelato. It's in the middle of creamy and melted, and coming from an ice cream mentality where I need it cold and frozen, the texture needs getting used to. read more

Wow, what a wonderful accidental stop this evening! I was on my way to visit another store in the area and tempted inside by the darling santa-land window dress and willy wonka referencing store name. I could not have been more please by what I found inside! The cases full of chocolate treats were beautiful...and delicious. Owner and passionate chocolatier Daniel is an absolute sweet-heart; almost sweeter than the chocolate! He was very excited to talk to us about his business and other must-see locations in the area.
