Finally made it here and it was worth the wait. Located in an industrial type of center I was shocked to see a long line formed beyond the entrance. We could have ordered ahead (which I would recommend unless you are willing to wait 15-20 minutes) but I said I wanted to soak in the environment. Everything was in stock so it was a huge win for us. All of the food items are larger than most so be cautious when ordering. We got a little bit of everything since I wanted to truly sampler. They did offer a few samples. The two best items were the egg and bacon danish and the steak sandwich. The Danish had a nice peppery note and a flaky exterior which made it 10x better. The steak sandwich was jam packed and that bread I should have brought home a loaf. The team was so friendly. I explained that I'm still new to Ohio and have been wanting to try this place since I got here. They were so flattered they threw in a few cookies to try and gave restaurant recommendations. I'd like to give this establishment 3.5 stars, for reasons I'll outline here: this location is in a strip of businesses called Grandview Commerce Center, and it can be a little hard to locate at first. Once you find the door, you'll enter a small retail space with a view of the large kitchen / bakery area. There's extremely limited seating (really just two tables / window seats), but the space is certainly bright, attractive, and inviting. (The restroom for customers is so well kept and clean by the way; kudos to the business for that). There's an array of sandwiches and pastries on display for sale, as well as bread and a coffee drink menu. The prices are extremely high: think $28 for a sandwich, $16 for a pastry. So, with that price, the bar is set very high. I ordered three pastries: Copia Egg & Bacon Danish, Sweet Cheese Danish, and Almond Twice Baked Croissant. The egg and bacon danish was truly excellent -- savory, a little sweet, herbal elements (rosemary etc) that was so unique. The almond croissant was good; I appreciated the almond filling and the size. The sweet cheese danish was a real miss. It was as hard as a rock, and the cream was a very thin layer. It tasted like something you could get at a lesser chain bakery or coffee shop, and definitely not worth the price. I also ordered the salty caramel iced latte, and it was really great. The size is a little small for the price (again!), but the quality is excellent. So, there were major hits, and a big miss. Recently tried Dan The Baker for the first time! I immediately knew it was going to be good because the line was already outside the building! The vibes are cute & it smells & looks great as soon as you walk in! ‍ There are so many tasty options to pick from! The almond croissant is delicious, the cookie is on point & the burrito is good if you're looking for a hot bite! My absolute favorite thing is the Egg Danish! Really cool spot! A decent amount of parking when I arrived on a Sunday morning. We had to wait outside in line for about 10 minutes because the inside was so packed. When we got inside it smelled incredible. The line moved pretty fast and the staff were very friendly. I told them it was our first time and they quickly and efficiently gave me the run down while also giving us some suggestions and letting us know what are local favorites. After talking about getting to Dan the Baker for WEEKS with my BF we finally made the trip this weekend and DROP. First off, service is so friendly and professional. Next, as someone who works in food service, I can appreciate how clean and smooth service is, even with a line they keep it moving in a pleasant but not rushed manner. The real star of show is phenomenal execution of every single item. These are incredibly high quality and absolutely delicious treats. Some of the pasties I've ever had. Flaky, buttery and on point. Almond croissant is loaded, burrito was stuffed, and the flavor profiles are sophisticatedly delightful. The coffee options are also worth adding, lattes are incredible. I'm 9 months pregnant, saw a TikTok about a cherry cordial latte and immediately needed to experience it. When I arrived it was 8:11 and the line was already out the door (mind you they open at 8am) I couldn't decide if I wanted the latte iced or hot so of'course I had to order both. I preferred the iced, the flavor was bright and very pronounced. I also ordered a raspberry vanilla custard cruffin which was phenomenal!! I shared it with my teenage daughters that are STILL chatting about it. In addition to pastries, they now have sandwiches, a few prepared salads, and (today) breakfast burritos. I ordered the breakfast burrito with black beans (other option was with sausage). I've been wanting to try this place forever! Was so excited to get there early and be able to try several different things. The turkey bacon avocado sandwich was delicious but SO messy. Almost impossible to eat. I love that they're filling it with good stuff, but honestly cut the filling in half, charge less and I'd be just as happy! The CMO sandwich was simple perfection. Price is a little crazy ($10) for one piece of (quality) ham and cheese. But the flavor was perfect. Cornflake cookie was also super good. Had almost a toffee quality but less gummy. Really disappointed in the croissants. First off they seem a little overdone on the outside, and I felt they were not light and fluffy like a true French pastry. Lamination is beautiful of course, but it's not the best texture. Super sad when I cut my ham and Gruyère croissant to find most of it was air. For $12 (I think?) that's insane. Wanted to buy bread but it all is burnt. I don't know how people buy it when the outside is dark brown - that is not correct. It's even that way in the photos on the website so it must be intentional but it definitely leaves a bitter flavor (my friend got a loaf) that ruins it for me. Not new to Dan the Baker, but I did realize I never left a yelp review (mostly because everything is inhaled immediately!!) We go almost every weekend for bread, since the fall. Best bread in the city in my opinion. Our favorites are the mountain rye and the country sourdough. We almost always get a pastry or two or a sandwich as well. Especially memorable are their dark chocolate rye cookie, the limited time cranberry danish, chocolate and orange panettone, and their croissants. The pastrami Reuben sandwich they featured for a bit was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had! Their drinks are also wonderful. My fiancé has high standard with coffee and he thinks their drip coffee is one of the finest he has tried in Columbus. I especially enjoyed the Persian love cake latte most recently. I have to take a moment to talk about the staff- their service is phenomenal phenomenal. Everyone is always so cheerful and friendly, it's such a fun and bright place to visit. On the weekends, if it's after 9am, I'd prepare for a line. I've found that the weekdays are a little easier to get in and out. However, I definitely don't mind the line given the amazing quality of the food and drinks!! read more

I even went to a coffee shop on Oakland Ave who ships in all their pastries from this place. They get steady business and sell out quickly. I guess because they're so well known and established on the low that they can charge astronomical prices and then pass it off as because of the ingredients they put into their items to justify it or maybe because of "inflation" which is the common excuse EVERYBODY uses nowadays. What a find and worth looking for if you're in Columbus!While sitting at a nearby coffee shop the idea to find a bakery struck and I came across Dan the Baker! A quick swipe through the photos and I made a B line to get some fresh baked bread! The smell of fresh bread was in the air as I got out of the car and a warm greeting by Chloe awaited me once inside. The space is small, so don't plan to stay, but do take your time and look around, and be sure to watch the bakers making magic through the window to the kitchen. I really liked the focus here, displaying the daily goods while leaving the supply on speed racks and in baskets for service. Chloe was happy to talk to me about each item and her passion and enthusiasm shined. She also offered me samples of the breads so I'd know what I was buying, a service I wasn't expecting but happily indulged, and lead to my final decision, the 2x Sesame! What a loaf of bread. The exterior has a heavy coating of toasted sesame, which you can smell from a mile away, and the inside is studded with more toasted sesame. The crust is thick, dark, and roasty, matching up with the nuttiness of the sesame, while the crumb is light and airy with the perfect chew and a slight density that I could tell will toast well. Fun fact, Chloe suggested toasting with peanut butter after I chose, so I know I'm on track. Seriously. Chloe was exceptional and made this experience for me and I sincerely appreciate her hospitality and genuine happiness. A wonderful way to start my last day in this beautiful city. read more

The peach was so fresh, it was covered in sugar and filled wish a sweet (but not overly) peach filling that made the whole thing come together. Also picked up this mega sized country sourdough for dinner tonight. Needless to say we will be back. A large store, with great variety of fresh bakery products, savory breakfast items and coffee. Based on what we heard, my wife and I wanted to try Dan the Baker. What a terrible experience. The bakery is located in an area with very little parking. My wife uses a walker handicap parking is a must. No such parking exists. The bakery itself is not set up for any handicapped person to enter or exit. No ramp or ease of access doors. Once inside the surroundings are very cramped with almost no seating. We purchased four pastries to take home. The cost was very high well over $10.00 per item. These items did not have best of taste. From what we read and heard they should have been exceptional. Not so. The bread is good. Possibly the best in Columbus, and I'm glad it's here and adds to the food culture. My only gripe is the prices- they are extremely steep such that going here is reserved for special occasions only. I spent $80 here on 2 galettes, and a couple loaves of bread. To add insult to injury, when I paid with a credit card the machine defaulted to a suggested 20% tip! I'm sorry but I can't tip $16 to someone who put a couple of loaves of bread in a bag. I'm guessing the ingredients are super premium... as the location isn't in a high end area and it is extremely small, while this place is advertised as a toast bar there are no toast pieces for sale and nowhere inside to eat anything. One suggestion would be to sell half loaves or to just make the loaves smaller. This might make the prices seem more reasonable, as many loaves of bread are pushing $20. However, the price for a pastry is $18! Seriously? If I take my kids, that's $80 for four pastries, which is just ridiculous. This is a small little shop you go in and buy your bakery and then head out. We purchased a garlic Parmesan sourdough loaf as well as two croissants. The garlic Parmesan sourdough loaf was amazing. It had the nice crispy crust in the inside was very soft. The garlic flavor was infused throughout every bite, and the Parmesan was a little bit more subtle at the top. This bread is excellent by itself or with a little bit of olive oil or with a little bit of marinated artichoke. The croissant was really good. We toasted it so it was a little crispy on the outside yet. Still warm and fluffy on the inside though it was fluffy. It wasn't completely airy like some croissants. My consistent pick ups are the country sourdough and the sweet cheese and sour cherry danish. It's a tiny store front so you may have to wait outside for a little bit, but the line moves very fast! On a serious note, the Italian sandwich was worth the 30+ minute drive. The bread was airy with a nice chew, the meats were quality and plentiful, and the layers of flavor made my heart smile.
