Jennyfer did an incredible job on my nails, they looked beautiful. She was very sweet and professional. In short, the front desk was disorganized and it seems pricing was a little out of control and underhanded. The place was bustling and I hope the workers are getting breaks and a good commission. The front desk was very disorganized despite me having an appointment and kept telling me they were getting me in right away despite me making it clear I didn't mind waiting at all and I just requested to sit outside in the sun and gave them my number to call me when they're ACTUALLY ready for me instead of having me wait for 30+ minutes. Once I started having my nails done, I was told that I had to do a builder gel because my nails were too bendy, and I explained I wouldn't blame the technician at all if the results were compromised because of my bendy nails, and she insisted that she kind of had to do a builder gel. I was fine with that because she's the professional and I trust her :) despite not doing my research on builder gel beforehand and not expecting to pay the price increase coming into my appointment. Once I agreed on pricing and service choices, she told me she was giving me a good deal because she wasn't charging me for cutting my cuticles and filing the edges, and she would usually have to. Since when did salons start charging EXTRA for inherent parts of manicures? More so in bad taste of ownership. I didn't ask for reshaping of my nails, they didn't need to be cut (I wanted to keep my length), I just wanted a french tip and it was presented to me as if she was doing me a favor for doing parts of a manicure that are inherent parts of manicuring. Once she did the builder gel my nails were burning badly and I didn't complain once but she noticed I was having a hard time when my nails were in the UV lamp, and let me know it hurts everyone and I assumed it was my fault for having thinner nails at the time of the service but it would've been nice to know I could expect above average burning for a service I didn't ask for. Ive used the UV lights many times getting manicures sporadically over the course of the last 10 years but this was a new level of burn. I don't blame her at all, just think it was something to warn about since all the technicians seem to know what builder gel feels like to get done. Jennyfer was outstanding and I'm sure following the standard of nail salons nowadays: upsell, charge as much additionally as you can since clients will do it as they're already at their appointment and probably won't just get up and leave if they don't want to pay for out of the norm, unexpected add-ons presented as necessity. I understand that in Alaska, nail techs can charge whatever because the lack of competition and I know service prices are getting spendy everywhere, but I was yet again unimpressed by the seemingly sly way these salons are upselling during the service (industry standard it seems). Jennyfer did make my nails beautiful though and I'll now have to come back to pay for a fill or remove the gel which isn't something I was looking to do, but appreciated her artistry. I want to give credit where credit is due, they were very prompt in reaching out seeking resolution. I am adding a star for customer service. My nail tech was very sweet. That being said my nails look terrible. They are inconsistent lengths and shapes. The acrylic is lumpy and uneven. They do offer a warranty so they might offer to fix for free, but I genuinely believe she was doing her best. I am not even wanting to go out in public with how bad my nails look. read more

I got a Mani Pedi on 9/2/25 with two amazing artist, but within two days, my Joe coloring has already coming on and I have an extreme infection in my right big toe. It's very painful. I've emailed the business, but nobody has ever gotten back to me so now I leave this review this is probably only the third time I've ever gotten my toes done because I'm always afraid of an issues like this mind you I paid $133 for the service and then I tipped each of the workers a $20 cash tip for $175. I see David here for my pedicures and for my nails. He takes pride and his work and really is so talented and it really shows in the finished product every single time. I can actually just relax and know my nails are going to look fire without me having to watch so super closely because I don't have to point out differences in shape or length etc from nail to nail and from hand to hand like I have in the past. My nails look uniform and everything always just looks right when he does them. He does an amazing job with my toes as well and the whole process is super relaxing and enjoyable. I do think nails in Alaska are more expensive than other places but I do feel like you get what you pay for at VIP at the same time. Between my nails and my toes there are so many steps and processes and still throughout I always feel welcome and like David wants to be doing my nails. I never ever feel like he just wants to get me done and on my way faster or anything like that. I want to say that while I do understand the general vibe that some other reviews mentioned about how nail salons aren't always super friendly but I genuinely don't get that energy here. This is one of the more inviting nail salons I've been to where I'm the most comfortable. I'm sure David has a lot to do with that for me personally though as well since I only see him :) I do want to add one more thing regarding the owners because they are super pleasant people and I remember them from a different salon that they were at about 10 years ago. I don't think I saw them for my nails at all ever because I had a couple other people that I was seeing at that time so I remember them JUST because they're some of the most pleasant people. I'm not sure how to start as I wouldn't recommend going here or having a male tech to do your nails. Coming into this nail salon I thought it'll be every persons goal is to make sure each customer leaves happy with good quality nails. no I left this salon feeling uglier then walking into this Salon. if your not going to make sure they are all sized because he didn't look to size them or make sure the lengths are the same. the color lifted 20 mins leaving this appt. then chipped my nail when coloring that evening. I wanted to have them fix this but I do not want them to make me feel even more uglier than what they had me walk out with. please don't work in this field if you can't make your customers happy and do the nails right if we are paying you and tipping you on top of that and I gave a really good tip I didn't need to give this person I should have given to a nail tech who loves doing nails. so I'll never suggest this place for anyone. read more

This nail salon is located in the newer part of the Midtown Mall, formally known as Sears Mall. Got my Ma, a gift cert last year, when they were brand new. This year, I was able to experience them for myself, after easily booking my appointment ahead, online. First thing you notice is, there are no TV's. Complimentary water, purse hangers, fancy chandeliers, and timers for massages. Fancy sinks with pre-folded washcloths to dry your hands. It's the details for me! Bring your earbuds or don't. Either way their space screams R-E-L-A-X! Lisa was amazing in every way. Small stature, with strong hands! Very thorough. Funny and kind. Signature Mani & Pedi with white tips was what I requested. Hand and feet wax treatments were elite. I was anxious seeing debit card customers ahead of me, being asked to use the ATM. Lisa explained It was an option. I'm one of those people who never knows their pin #. This predicament had the potential to ruin my Mothers Day. Don't expect to relax and lounge after getting your nails done. It was a "get up and go" type feeling throughout-- well my experience at least. I gave 3 stars because yes though the work felt very rushed-- they were proficient and my nails look lovely! Just by observing while my toenails dried, the salon is well staffed however OVER booked! I scheduled for 3 pedis at the same time for my mom and sis. We had to complete separately due to accommodations of walk-ins and others scheduled around the same time. Perhaps need more work on the communication between all the techs. This occurred not just with me, but a few other appts as well during the 2 hours we were there and i people watched. Putting three stars, wasn't the worst probly wasn't the best experience either. I am not one to go to a salon to get my nails done. Last time I went was 10 years ago for senior prom. An older guy did them and he didn't really speak English, hardly anyone did there. I didn't tell them it was my first time, nor did they ask me. It was awkward the guy gesturing and trying to tell me what to do and that I wasn't keeping the heating light on to cure the nail polish. I picked a gel color which supposedly lasts like two weeks? I could see parts that were not full with color and and left space by my cuticle that didn't have paint. The confusing part is I paid $50 for a gel manicure but that's not the price on the website. $50 is a lot to pay when I got nothing but a regular manicure with gel. I only tipped him $5. Looks like from the website all the manicures were 45 for vip and organic, 40 for signature, deluxe was 30 and regular was 20. I don't even know what I got. I won't be back. read more

Not a bad place! I went in to get my nails done after having my Taipei nails on for two weeks. I usually have to do my nails every two weeks personally because she's the grow out kills me and the length just hurts my natural nails. I was immediately welcomed when I walked in on a Friday night after work around 5 PM. I got in right away, no waiting. I explained that I had Nails on from Taipei but I did not know what type of product they used were. I explained that they were not dip or acrylic and I either wanted to get them filled or I wanted to get a new set of the product that was on my nails. I usually do dip, but because these nails from Taipei were a little bit more flexible, I believe that they were gel and I liked them better than dip. I was handed off to Vicki, who decided to do a fill of acrylic, but I told her that I don't believe the product underneath is acrylic but she told me it was acrylic so we went with an acrylic fill. After having the Nails on for a couple days, I can tell that it's the usual product that I would get like acrylic is usually dip which is they're basically the same thing. I could tell the product I got from Taipei was a little bit more flexible and I'm sad I couldn't get that done but it also doesn't really help that. I also don't know what the product is from Taipei. I ended up loving the results in the end. One flaw that might draw me back to my old salon is they would My other nail salon would usually when we didclean the cuticles as well without charging your extra. I would definitely go here again, I can't recommend someone specifically at the moment but definitely a place to go to id you need a quick and fast nail appointment. read more

I haven't had a bad experience, I also haven't had an outstanding experience either. I usually get a basic pedicure and/or a basic manicure. Pretty standard services that have you in and out within 45min. My last visit was pretty good. I got a regular pedi and dip mani. Hannah did my fingers and they look pretty good, even one week later. My toes are still looking fresh as well. I like that they try to do both services at the same time but it was a bit uncomfortable especially when she had to do my right hand while only being able to sit to the left of me. Overall, a solid place to get your nails done. Beautiful environment, good color selection. Sometimes staff are hit or miss. read more

First time here. Beautiful looking salon. Nice lighting. Displays are presentable. Received a complimentary water which was nice. I was greeted and helped right as I walked in. The woman who did my pedicure did a good job - my issue isn't with her. Even when the gel polish wrinkled from not curing properly she took the time to fix it and correct it. Albeit it hurt a bit with no cuticles left and a rough file. My issue was the gossiping about the woman next to me who misunderstood the differences in the different types of pedicures. She had thought she chose the wax dip for her feet, but was incorrect. I was trying to enjoy my massage across the room as the woman checked out and I could hear the cluster of workers (the woman was at the atm getting cash) talking about her. Going on and on about the mistake. The customer apologized she misunderstood. Knock it off. Do not gossip about customers! They also push you to give them cash to avoid transaction fees. It's not that they can't take a credit card, but they are very pushy about the cash. I didn't like this feeling, even though I was already planning to pay with cash. It was the approach of it. Again the pedicurist herself was nice. She was meticulous. She gave a good calf massage. I recently got married and for the big day decided to get acrylic nails to ensure that my nails looked great! I had heard good things about this salon so I went to VIP nails for a full set, and was pretty happy with the end result! It definitely was a little pricey but not a big deal - afterall it had been close to 15 years since I had a full set of acrylics. After having them for a few weeks, it was time to either get a fill or have them removed, but with my profession and everyday life I decided to make an appointment to have them removed. I knew that this was something you should have professionally done since acrylics already damage your nail, so I wanted to ensure that my nails weren't damaged more than necessary. That said, I was shocked when the nail tech pulled out a spare acrylic tip and began using it to pry off my nails! It had been over a decade since having acrylics so I couldn't remember the process, but surely ripping them off was not what I expected. When she actually tore one of my nails I finally had the nerve to ask if she should be filing them or grinding them down, or soaking them at least? She said she could but decided against because she couldn't find the right tip to do that....but then quickly switched gears and tried that method for the few remaining nails I had left. She told me my nails were quite damaged and suggested that I pay another $40 to have gel polish applied. Worried I would have to come back yet again and risk more damage for that removal I declined. She did end up using some nail glue and the dip powder to try and fix the nail she tore, but never made mention of it. I'm not sure if this is standard practice since I came in for just a removal, even though this is the salon I had my nails done in the first place. Lesson learned - if you've gone down the acrylic route...do not come here for removal!! read more

I scheduled an underarm wax. I arrived on-time. I sat there for 10 minute before anyone spoke to me. There was a young man wandering around, seemingly asking people relevant questions but he asked me if I was there for a pedicure and I said no. He did not ask me what I was there for. Finally, someone clocked that I had been sitting there for a while and asked me what I was there for. I went in the room and was told the price on the website was only for waxing one side and both would be more. Who waxes only one underarm? I suggested they need to be clear that the price is only for waxing one side. In the end, they gave me a better price but I will not go back. The quality of the service was not worth the money. I also had a "deluxe" pedicure and felt the same. It was nice but the price wasn't worth it. They literally timed the massage with a timer. And having gel polish added a ridiculous upcharge for nearly zero extra work. I find it hard to believe the cost of the polish is that much more. I was really disappointed with both experiences. The VIP Head Spa is so wonderful, I expected the same here. Sadly, that was not the case. read more

For 2 people, 2 deluxe pedicures, one full set & a basic manicure I was charged $400+! The worst part was getting having a manicure & pedicure done on an elder at the same time. They were yanking her all different directions for an hour and the work was mediocre. Then they had the audacity to do my pedicure & put the tips for my set on at the same time. I really hate to leave a bad review but this warrants it. I do love that they are accommodating to get you in quickly and do have a high level of customer service, but the health of my nails is the catalyst here. I've been going here for a year. I always have my nails taken off completely every other visit, just personal preference. When they are taken off, I always get a soak off. Here a couple months ago, the second to last trip, I noticed that the tools were brought out in autoclave pouches. Cool! Until I looked at the indicators on the bags, they either are just popped in bags for show or not processed correctly. They also use the same files and dremel bits on everyone without sterilization in between. Now I've been to tons of nail salons for 30 years and it's hard to find one that has personal files and bits, so didn't think too much about it. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago and my coworker that also goes there shows me her gnarly nail fungus. I explain to her that's why I get a new set every other visit so I know water isn't getting under the artificial nail. Life happened and I was WAY over due for a fill and no time to do it so I soaked my nails off at home. I was horrified that 3 of my nails also had damage and fungus. This has never happened to me before and I've been an acrylic nail wearer for decades. I'm super disappointed because they are very convenient and very nice, but my nail health is more important. Pretty good value for the services you get. Everywhere in Anchorage is pretty pricey, but you get more for your buck at VIP Nails. They have hot wax treatment options for moisturizing your cold, dry Arctic heels. The only strange thing was they use a timer to time how long they massage each leg.. I guess it's quality control and you get the same experience each time, but it caught me off guard. It's conveniently located in the mall with the REI, so check them out. I guess Lihn didn't appreciate feedback by an individual who was spending upwards of $400 a month...oh well; there are businesses who would appreciate a loyal returning customer who does not mind paying for an excellent experience in their salon. Going with my gut feeling that something was not right, I had a friend of mine call and make an appointment with Lihn to see if she would receive the same"I'm booked" response, due to no surprise.... she was able to make an appointment for this weekend.
