Then the owners will direct you to the best spot to start. One last tip. They typically use Facebook for all hours and to keep you posted on what's ready to pick. In this trip we met one of the seasonal workers. She collected our entry fee of $5 each and asked us if we have visited in the past. Very nice young person. They are looking for volunteers and it would be s nice place for someone to de-stress and get their hands a little dirty. Also, gardening does burn calories. Every season you will see new plants and flowers coming up. It's not your perfectly polished garden, but it's your rough work in progress labor of love. The park is well-maintained and the variety of plants and flowers is truly stunning. I enjoyed walking through the different gardens, each with its own unique character and charm. They just opened on April 1st for the season so not everything was in bloom (obviously) but my minds eye could imagine if. What impressed me the most was the attention to detail and the dedication of the staff to ensure that everything was in pristine condition. I could tell that they take great pride in their work and it definitely shows. Overall, I highly recommend visiting the Strongsville Gardenview Horticultural Park. It's a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city and a true gem for nature lovers. Five stars all around!

That's right... they are not coated with all the chemicals that your "pretty" apples are. Blue Jay Orchards' apples have a great taste to them. Yes, you will pay a little more than you would in store. Yes, you will probably need to cut some of the apples up to remove the little worms. But I find their apples are superior to what you will get in the store. We are happy such a wonderful farm is available for us.

You're basically driving through industrial areas until you spot a little yellow alpaca sign. Drive down a little gravel road and then you'll be shocked to find a little farm! The owner, Kim, is very nice and extremely passionate about her work. The Alpaca Yoga class is held in the grassy field towards the back of the farm. To encourage the alpacas to visit your mat, Kim will put out buckets of food to encourage interactions. Alpacas are quite funny. I learned they don't like being touched on their head/face but rather their neck and behind! They move quickly and like slow, thoughtful movements. My favorite alpaca was Sadie. She's a cutie girl that is really well-adjusted to people and constantly came over for pets! I loved this little spot and we'll absolutely be back! Animal yoga is oddly relaxing. You don't need to be good at yoga to take an Alpaca Yoga class. Just try! It's really more about the therapeutic benefits of the animal, in my opinion.

We attended the annual Memorial weekend Civil War reenactment. Had a good time. The soldiers tents were staked. Full uniformed soldiers walked the streets. Then the two sides gathered into their regiments and the shooting began. We forget how this conflict was fought with small groups of men, many farmers and young boys in scant uniforms, tho nearly 300 men and women reenacted. The conflict lasted a good hour. Was very well planned out. The village's 20 buildings were staffed by volunteers. Some food was available for purchase. This is also the site for Burton's summer Chautauqua series--free!

For a "museum" in a little town staffed mainly by volunteers, this place is great!!…read more Rather than one big stuffy building with dusty old paintings on the wall and withered artifacts behind glass, Century Village instead is an outdoor "town" of structures apropos to the day - the settlement and early years for this area, that is. They even have a wooden church in great shape that you can walk into that was actually used in the 1800s which was relocated here for preservation. There is an admission fee that goes directly to their non-profit cause. Their "gift shop" is the town's general store in which you'll find period-proper snacks and trinkets. Century Village has lots of events throughout the year. One of our favorites is the popular pancake breakfast in maple syrup season (around March each year) - one of their fundraisers. Another is their civil war era reenactment which includes soldier and civilian encampments. It's not all about the soldiers - who put on a series of excellent displays and battles - but other living historians who show you what it was like to live in pre-20th century America (weaving, washing laundry, cooking, etc.). Other events include historical machinery which features some of the first tractors and farm equipment used long ago. The site is located in the heart of Burton Township in Geauga County, on the southeast corner of the town square. This is where 87, 168, and 700 meet. Again, a gem in such a small township, Century Village is tops!
