    Rainbow Burger

Came here for a quick bite and was not disappointed. Ambiance: it's a large seating area with large and small tables. It's bright and welcoming. I will say that it doesn't feel very clean. The tables wobble and we had to clean our own table no matter where we were choosing to sit. By no means an upscale place more of a grab and go or casual hangout spot Food: I chose the rainbow burger at the suggestion of the counter clerk. It was delicious! The sauce made all the difference. I also ordered the sweet potato fries which are usually a hit or miss no matter where you order but they were perfectly fried. Crispy and fresh. Service: great service. The counter clerk was very patient as we asked questions about the menu and very friendly. We were a group of 4 and some of us got our food quick but the last two took quite some time to come out. They did check on us and told us it would be out soon but the rest of the tables food got cold while we waited for the rest. Overall i would go again to try other things from the menu. I might just take it to go next time.

I'm not vegan, but I decided to come here for lunch with a friend. The inside was spacious and nicely decorated. There were lots of plants and plenty of seating options. We ordered tea, samosas and avocado toast. The meal came out fairly quickly but we were waiting a while for the tea. By the time the tea came out we had finished the meal already. The samosas were crispy and delicious, and they seemed authentic. The avocado toast was good too, although it was pretty basic. Overall, the meal was pretty basic/standard but it was good, and the owner was friendly. I would be interested in coming back to try out some of their other items!

I don't require vegan food, but I thought this would be an interesting place to try, and it turned out to be so! I have been to this space in a few of its prior owners' iterations. The new décor is quite welcoming and you get some nice sunshine in the late afternoon. The "Rainbow Burger" was delightfully spicy and included lots of fresh vegetables (well, onions, lettuce etc for a nice burger). The regular potato fries were dynamite! So crispy on the outside, and spiced a little bit. Any drink seems to take the final price up quite a bit. I'm glad to know of this place.

Kind service, beautiful space, and delicious food. We had a satisfying Sunday brunch here. With so many options on the menu it took awhile to decide, but the friendly employee gave us a few suggestions. Much of the menu leans towards "comfort vegan", but don't ignore the fantastic Indian fusion options. Mine was delightfully spiced and completely satisfying. It's worth noting that you may need to check your expectations in terms of price and portions (though this is not a criticism, it's just a standard trade-off with higher quality food.)

The fries were perfectly crispy! We got the backyard and it was super delicious! They have many options to choose from! I definitely recommend! The staff is friendly and the location is clean and nice. It's downtown not terrible to park but I do not like downtown.

"Vegan burgers/ chicken/ bowls and more by Duke's West Campus" We came here for lunch on a Friday after getting a flier noting a 10% discount for Duke employees at this new place. It's bright, with high ceilings and big windows, and there were very few people around so service was fast. One orders at the counter and then food is brought to the table. I got the americana burger and sweet potato fries. One of my friends got the chipotle chik'n sandwich, and others got either avocado toast on English muffins or salad. I didn't try the drinks, but some of my friends did. Food came out moderately fast-- most of it was out in 10 minutes, though the burger took almost 20. The burger was quite good-- texture similar to beef, and flavor was good (not too "bean-y"). It was a messy eat because of all the mustard/ ketchup/ etc., as well as the juicy patty all being drippy. (Keep napkins handy!) It really felt like eating a beef burger (which was a positive to me). The sweet potato fries were EXCELLENT-- crisp and hot, and fried to perfection-- not over/ not under. My friends all liked their dishes a good deal. I asked about the Chik'n sandwich-- it "looked" like chicken, but my friend who was eating it hadn't had chicken in 20 years, so she couldn't comment if the taste was similar, but she said it was very good. The price was reasonable for the high quality, vegan ingredients, and proximity to campus-- $10 for the burger, $4 for the fries (easily enough to share). It's no McDonalds pricing, but it's no McDonalds product either. Service was attentive-- someone from the back came out to tell us briefly (but not intrusively) about the place and that she hoped we liked our dishes. Water was self-service, which was nice for quick refills as needed. I will say that the drinks were a little pricey-- $8.50 for most of them, and they are not giant in size. I didn't try them, but my friends who had them said they were quite good. Overall, we all were quite pleased and would happily go back.

We stopped in for a quick early dinner on our way through town. They have a good mix of healthy and "junk" food options. My husband loved the Rainbow burger and fries. I ordered the Breakfast Burger and kale slaw. Everything was delicious. My only complaint was my husband's food and the slaw came but then three to-go orders were filled before my burger arrived so my husband was already done eating before my burger arrived. Nice size tables, but I find metal chairs cold.

    FOOD GONE! Delishhhh

My husband and I just turned vegan and trust me this is the BEST !! Vegan chicken wings were bomb! Loved their Americana and Chipotle chicken burgers! And you must have their strawberry lemonade with seamoss as a drink! We demolish the plates lol

    Chik'n Vindaloo

The food was amazing! I recently starting eating more vegetarian meals and try to go to a vegan restaurant when I travel. I'm soooo happy I chose this spot. The samosas are a nice size and very flavorful. The Chik'n wings were amazing!!! Loved, loved, loved them!! The Chik'n Vindaloo was tasty and the portion was a very healthy size. My server Nemo was the best!! She was friendly, courteous, and very helpful. When I return to Durham I will definitely come back here!

Everything was seasoned well, what was supposed to be crispy was very crispy, what was supposed to be rich was very rich. The reason I rate this place 5 stars is because of the creativity in their drumsticks. Although I know I'm not having chicken, it basically tasted like chicken. It had a wonderfully crispy outer skin, and they even put a thick skewer stick in the middle of it to simulate a chicken bone. Parking was tight but doable in the lot. The space is charming inside and out; the shaded patio has a nice vibe, though foot traffic to the entrance passes by those tables. Ordering is walk-up, and food is delivered to the table. Menu is broad with clear gluten-free indicators (huge plus). Coffee was dark and delicious, and service throughout was genuinely warm, knowledgeable, and fast -- easily 5 stars for hospitality. Getting to-go boxes was effortless and we were offered refills often. Food was a mixed bag. My wife had the gluten-free smoked salmon toast with avocado. She wished the veggies and tomato were grilled; the GF bread itself was very good, but the greens/tomato ended up pushed aside. I had the smoked salmon Benedict. The salmon portion felt light, and the hollandaise leaned more toward mustard than citrus and was a bit thin. Breakfast potatoes and veggies were nicely cut and well-seasoned but undercooked; same for the bacon, which tasted more tough than crisp. (I reheated the potatoes/veg at home -- flavor was there once cooked through.) Prices felt reasonable, ingredients seemed thoughtfully sourced, and the team's earnestness shines. With a little tighter execution (fully cooked potatoes/veg, crisper bacon, brighter/thicker hollandaise, slightly more salmon, grilled tomatoes), this would be an easy 5. I'll definitely be back -- I gave it a 3.7 but rounded it up to 4 stars for the service, coffee, and GF-friendly menu options.

We sat outside under their covered patio; it was drizzling when we arrived, but the space was still comfortable. When sitting outside you have to go inside to place your order but they bring it out to your table. My kids ordered the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. They're a decent size for little ones, topped with fresh strawberries (tip: if your kiddos aren't into strawberries, just ask to have them on the side like I did). You can also add extras like chocolate chips or blueberries for a small up-charge; both of mine loved theirs. I ordered Huevos Rancheros Brunch, which was good. Crispy tostadas loaded with tender shredded steak, beans, lettuce, and cream, and ask for a fried egg cooked medium so the yolk spills out perfectly. It came with pico de gallo and jalapeños on the side (I skipped those, but if you like a kick, i'm sure they will add great flavor). I tried their seasonal S'mores Latte; sweet, creamy, and topped with whipped cream and drizzle. Their dessert case is worth a peek; cakes, cheesecakes, pies, even vegan-friendly options. Didn't have any but next time. The staff were all so kind and welcoming, smiles all around.

It is built on quinoa and rice with black beans and kale, then layered with corn salsa, tomato cortido, guacamole, and a creamy acevichado style sauce that pulls everything together. It is finished with a crunchy mix of pepitas, nuts, and grains. The balance is quite ideal in my view. My friend had the rotisserie chicken with two sides, kale and slaw, and it was just as impressive. Crispy skin, juicy inside, and really clean flavors. Simple food done right and GF friendly. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared. Prices land right where you would expect for the quality, roughly 16 to 21 dollars depending on what you order, and it feels worth it. My bowl plus side of dark chicken was plenty. A few notes. Parking is what you would expect for downtown, so plan accordingly. Service was solid and friendly, but nothing that stood out. And when I last lived in Durham 30+ years ago, having Ethiopian on Main Street Durham was unimaginable. But Durham on so many levels is a completely different universe. Goorsha is a very pleasant small dining room off a welcoming bar area when you come in. It was overcast and cold this early March day but the outside dining must be lovely later in the spring. We had a very helpful waitress answer a few questions and the food came quickly. The Sambusa appetizer should have perhaps taken a bit longer. The edges were crisp and tasty as was the Deko sauce it came with. But the center was still a bit cold so a bit more time was needed. I wanted beef tibs and went with the Zilzil tibs knowing there would be less sauce and danger of staining my work clothes. They were plentiful, well-cooked if not powerfully seasoned. They were quick to bring ample powered pepper so I could give it some kick dipping each injera enveloped bite for some added heat. The winner was my vegetarian dining companion who went with the very flexible pick three from many vegetarian options. They were a distinct yet complimentary troika of richly favored dishes. At least for lunch, Goorsha goes with individual plates rather than the traditional round platter family style so familiar in Ethiopian cuisine. It definitely worked for us given one of us was a vegetarian and the other all tibs all day. Definitely very glad to see it just across the street from Brightleaf Square and one of the earliest areas converted from tobacco warehouses to fashionable eateries. The table and floor were messy but someone quickly came to clean it for me. They called our names over the loudspeaker and my best friend went to go get our food. She got the MotherClucker. Our food was REALLY good. If you like Cobb salad, you will definitely like this one. The chicken was pan seared perfectly, the vinaigrette was perfectly tangy and the bleu cheese was especially excellent. My friend's chicken sandwich has SO MUCH chicken salad on it. Impressive. There was so many neat items to see in the place. The murals were great, there were some cute retail spaces, a coffee bar up front, a bar downstairs, and ice cream outside! Unfortunately my bestie and I had too much to talk about so we didn't check it out as much as I otherwise wood. I would definitely try this place again!
