I came here for the High Tea I'd seen advertised on Instagram. I'd attempted to make a reservation twice- the first time I called and the person who answered the phone told me I could make an reservation online. I tried this, but the system wouldn't even let me try until 30 days in advance, which I did, but was told I wouldn't need a reservation on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm for two people. I showed up and half the staff seemed really confused until I pointed to the tiered plates on other tables, then they said "ohhh the tea party!" lol. They got someone else, who said she wasn't sure she could accommodate us because we didn't have a reservation! I showed her the email on my phone which said "your reservation request was denied" because we supposedly didn't need one. I wouldn't usually have been so insistent but my friend had driven like 40 minutes to hang out and have this plant-based experience. She ended up relenting and bringing us the "tea party." The tea cups were the size of a shot glass and the tea bag selection included Lipton. I think it would have cost them basically nothing to give everyone their own teapot so you could actually seep your own flavor of tea, or even a bigger mug. It was just a little silly. They also start you off with a cute little labeled pitcher of lemonade- so cute but I wish they would have continued with this theme of labels or else just given us a pitcher of water because I was really thirsty by the end. The food that was made in house was delicious- the vegan pimento cheese sandwiches (bread tasted kind of stale though), the samosas and other savory pastries were delicious. The star of the show for me was the flatbread- veggie with some sort of aioli on it- I just loved it! Then there were store bought crackers and jelly (not chutney as we'd hoped/thought) and some store bought cookies. They had homemade vegan baked goods there, so I wish they had just tried a little harder to have some on hand for the high tea experience. The ambience was not great for a high tea experience. It's fast-casual so you order your high tea at the counter. Also they had the door open so it was really hot and the pollen was coming in. All in all, I would return but definitely for take-out, never for the high tea. The cost per person was not commensurate to the experience I had. That's a bummer because with some very small tweaks they could have a great niche! read more

Had 2 opportunities to dine here, the first was in house - burger - and it was rather tasty. The order taking process - not so welcoming as the lady taking the orders was clearly more into her phone than anything else on this slow day. I also used the restroom and the water line was spitting out as much air as water, so to ensure they were aware and too prevent a potential issue I told the lady at the front. She got pretty perturbed that I did this but went and informed the manager anyway - show as watching videos on her tablet and didn't seem to care. No bother for me, I just trying to be nice and make sure an issue didn't happen. The manager came over later and told me they were working on the pipes, causing the issue, nothing to worry about. The front desk person was completely put off, like I was complaining - which I wasn't. Kinda weird. Next order was a door dash a few days later and it seemed to be lacking the care pout into the in house order - but it wasn't bad. I ordered the rainbow and fries. The portion was more than fair, even generous. Flavoring is very tasty, texture good, and temperature was luke warm. I was very satisfied with my choices. Staff was very nice and friendly. Inside restaurant is trendy and clean. As with everything these days, I find the cost a little too extreme so I don't order from here but once a year as a treat while working. I do recommend giving it a try. read more

Came here for a quick bite and was not disappointed. Ambiance: it's a large seating area with large and small tables. It's bright and welcoming. I will say that it doesn't feel very clean. The tables wobble and we had to clean our own table no matter where we were choosing to sit. By no means an upscale place more of a grab and go or casual hangout spot Food: I chose the rainbow burger at the suggestion of the counter clerk. It was delicious! The sauce made all the difference. I also ordered the sweet potato fries which are usually a hit or miss no matter where you order but they were perfectly fried. Crispy and fresh. Service: great service. The counter clerk was very patient as we asked questions about the menu and very friendly. We were a group of 4 and some of us got our food quick but the last two took quite some time to come out. They did check on us and told us it would be out soon but the rest of the tables food got cold while we waited for the rest. Overall i would go again to try other things from the menu. I'm not vegan, but I decided to come here for lunch with a friend. The inside was spacious and nicely decorated. There were lots of plants and plenty of seating options. We ordered tea, samosas and avocado toast. The meal came out fairly quickly but we were waiting a while for the tea. By the time the tea came out we had finished the meal already. The samosas were crispy and delicious, and they seemed authentic. The avocado toast was good too, although it was pretty basic. Overall, the meal was pretty basic/standard but it was good, and the owner was friendly. I would be interested in coming back to try out some of their other items! read more

I don't require vegan food, but I thought this would be an interesting place to try, and it turned out to be so! I have been to this space in a few of its prior owners' iterations. The new décor is quite welcoming and you get some nice sunshine in the late afternoon. The "Rainbow Burger" was delightfully spicy and included lots of fresh vegetables (well, onions, lettuce etc for a nice burger). The regular potato fries were dynamite! So crispy on the outside, and spiced a little bit. Any drink seems to take the final price up quite a bit. I'm glad to know of this place. read more

Kind service, beautiful space, and delicious food. We had a satisfying Sunday brunch here. With so many options on the menu it took awhile to decide, but the friendly employee gave us a few suggestions. Much of the menu leans towards "comfort vegan", but don't ignore the fantastic Indian fusion options. Mine was delightfully spiced and completely satisfying. "Vegan burgers/ chicken/ bowls and more by Duke's West Campus" We came here for lunch on a Friday after getting a flier noting a 10% discount for Duke employees at this new place. It's bright, with high ceilings and big windows, and there were very few people around so service was fast. One orders at the counter and then food is brought to the table. I got the americana burger and sweet potato fries. One of my friends got the chipotle chik'n sandwich, and others got either avocado toast on English muffins or salad. I didn't try the drinks, but some of my friends did. Food came out moderately fast-- most of it was out in 10 minutes, though the burger took almost 20. The burger was quite good-- texture similar to beef, and flavor was good (not too "bean-y"). It was a messy eat because of all the mustard/ ketchup/ etc., as well as the juicy patty all being drippy. (Keep napkins handy!) It really felt like eating a beef burger (which was a positive to me). The sweet potato fries were EXCELLENT-- crisp and hot, and fried to perfection-- not over/ not under. My friends all liked their dishes a good deal. I asked about the Chik'n sandwich-- it "looked" like chicken, but my friend who was eating it hadn't had chicken in 20 years, so she couldn't comment if the taste was similar, but she said it was very good. The price was reasonable for the high quality, vegan ingredients, and proximity to campus-- $10 for the burger, $4 for the fries (easily enough to share). It's no McDonalds pricing, but it's no McDonalds product either. Service was attentive-- someone from the back came out to tell us briefly (but not intrusively) about the place and that she hoped we liked our dishes. Water was self-service, which was nice for quick refills as needed. I will say that the drinks were a little pricey-- $8.50 for most of them, and they are not giant in size. I didn't try them, but my friends who had them said they were quite good. Overall, we all were quite pleased and would happily go back. read more

Very clean and minimalistic decor with artwork for sale. Very friendly staff. A little usual though, you go up to order and look at one of the menus by the register and you are asked to take a menu to a table to peruse then come back up and order. Even-though, no one else was waiting to order. I ordered a Chipotle Salad without pico and the Samosas appetizer with a green spicy and tamarind chutneys. The salad is Romaine lettuce, quinoa, black beans, pico, walnut taco , jalapenos, avocado, cilantro dressing, cashew dressing. I mixed it all together and boy was it one of the best salads I've ever had. Flavorful and creamy. The samosas were not hard and crunchy like most but softish and fluffy. Tasty by itself but very good along with both chutneys. The chutneys were so good. I took the leftovers home. I be back and definitely worth a try even if you're a meat-eater like me. read more

Although I appreciate a vegan restaurant, this one was a miss. We were in from out of town so we were happy to find a vegan restaurant. My wife and I ordered the chik'n vindaloov which consisted of a chik'n drumstick & potato in a curry sauce. I guess I should have noticed that the description was singular and not plural. There was actually one tiny piece of soy, "chik'n drumstick"smothered in sauce along with one tiny potato. In other words this dish was mostly sauce and rice. We came on a Sunday morning as part of a local promotion that included free smoothies and discounted prices. If you're not familiar with this center, the restaurant is in the back and not facing the road. We enjoyed our smoothies, South of the Border meatless burger, and Chick'n and waffles. You order at the counter and they will bring your food to your table. My only minor complaint was they could have provided real maple syrup instead of the mostly corn oil "pancake" syrup. Incredible vegan food! I am not vegan, but enjoy trying new vegan restaurants and Pure Vegan Cafe was some of the best I've had. Very accessible menu of burgers, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches. Everything we had was great in texture and flavor. And, they had some bomb juices and smoothies of an incredible variety so there is something for everyone. Service was not friendly, the floors were wet and sticky, and the bathroom had a creepy smell (and not from what you'd expect). Still, it's about the food, right? So my wife ordered the mac & cheese and some sort of burger. Both were OK, although the mac had way too many crispy onions on and in it. As for me, I ordered Indian, as half the menu is Indian. The dhai puri appetizer was interesting but not as saucy as it appears in the menu photo. Crunchy, walnut-shaped puffs filled with chilled tamarind chutney, vegan yogurt, and bits of tomato. My wife didn't like it, but I thought it was different. BIG THUMBS DOWN however to the vindaloo plate. One measly chick'n drumstick and a couple chunks of potato in a mild sauce (you expect vindaloo to be spicy; not here!), with way too much rice and 3-4 slices of bland "naan". It looks like the menu photo, but it simply isn't good. Spice it up and add more chick'n, guys. Don't be stingy. read more

Do you ever walk into a place and the vibes are just *off*? That was Pure Vegan from the moment we walked in. Dirty blenders and containers with partial amounts of smoothies and juices sat on the counter for the entirety of our visit, which was not short, and it was very clear walking to the bathroom that cleaning was not a priority. The cafe wasn't busy, in fact, we were the only ones in line to order, but the woman behind the register acted as if us ordering was a large inconvenience to her day. Once we ordered, food took a very long time to arrive and when it did, the presentation left some to be desired. Flavors were ok. The cauliflower wings were nicely fried, but the buffalo sauce came out on the side instead of tossed on them and was completely cold. My friend ordered a juice that took nearly 30 minutes to come to the table and even then, it took multiple reminders despite the cafe having only one other table occupied. We came here for Restaurant Week to give a full vegan meal a try. I think the deal was that you could get a main, a side, and a drink for $20 flat, which was a savings of at least $5 off normal menu prices. I thought their juices were solid and I really liked the burgers (Backyard and PVC Tikki) except for the odd sweetness of the buns. The Backyard was a really delicious chili burger, and I preferred it to meaty chili burgers because, I mean, I'm an omnivore, but come on, we shouldn't drench our meat in other meat. The vegan version satisfies that 'I want to eat a messy handful of junk food' craving without feeling like dying afterwards. The sweet potato fries were good, but the mac and cheeze was just weird. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've been impressed by vegan cheeze; it's possible but not probable. Amazing vegan menu that has a huge selection. Being a huge carnivore, I've never been to an only vegan spot, and now I regret not coming here before. Their kabob is amazing, you can't even tell it's not meat and it's seasoned so well. Loved their Tikki Sandwich and Chili Cheese fries too. Their seasonal Cranberry Chik'n and Cornbread waffles was awesome, never had anything like it. We loved their smoothies too, prob some of my favorite I've had in the area.
