My husband's vegetarian coworker recommended this restaurant and we decided to give it a chance. He should have hyped it up more because I thought it was amazing even as a an omnivore. My husband and I went on a late Saturday afternoon and we were seated immediately. We shared the Fido's Fries as an appetizer and I got the Chili Cheese Dogs as my entree. Almost everything could be made veggie or vegan so I asked for the dogs to be veggie. My meal also came with a side so I got the frickles (fried pickles). The Fido's Fries were beer battered fries, topped with cheese, bacon (we got the pork option but they have soy), scallions, & sour cream (on the side). The fries were absolutely delicious! I loved my chili cheese dogs as well. It was a very generous portion because it was two dogs and a ton of frickles. As a dog lover, I adored all of the dog art & statues around the place. The menu is even dog themed. I mean they call appetizers kibbles & bits. That could not be any cuter! There is indoor seating (with a bar) and outdoor seating. As you can probably already tell, the restaurant is dog friendly (with their outdoor area). They even have a dog friendly menu (called puppy meals). Service was superb! There is no dedicated parking lot but we easily found free parking a few blocks away. My mom is a vegan and we sometimes struggles to find creative meals when she visits. I was attracted to the outside of this building and assumed I was walking into a Irish/burger bar. We were transported to more of a dining side vs. bar so I only got to see one side of the place and I don't like to not see my drink being made. My drink was good but I'm pretty sure the house made syrup was made with sweetener that was not cane sugar and I'm very sensitive to any other sweetener. Menu was large and I had a hard time deciding. It is a somewhat vegan place much to my surprise so I figured why not try it here because I do love good vegan option even though I do eat meat I ordered the trio of patties black eyed peas and black bean. I took a bite of each and left the rest. Three different staff noticed my untouched food but none inquired or offered replacing it or removing it from bill which to me would be a gesture of a good business practice. Great menu concept! Came here with someone who was vegan and another pescatarian! Everyone had something they could enjoy. Food: I ordered the tuna tostada with a side of hush puppies, the fried green tomatoes and the cinnamon bun bread pudding. Everything was great!!! The tostada needed a bit more flavor (I wish they had seasoned the actual tuna). The tomatoes were amazing (not oily). The dessert was very impressive especially because it was vegan! But overall very good and everyone else I was with really enjoyed their dishes. The menu is extensive and will come back to try more things. Service: our server was awesome! Mostly featuring vegetarian and vegan options, Spotted Dog for me, required that I expand my mind a bit and think about why I wouldn't have chosen this place. Do I need meat in every meal? Certainly not. Did I still order an entree with chicken? Yeah. I ordered the Stir-fry with NC natural chicken. It was surrounded by beautiful fresh veggies and tossed in a nice light sesame sauce, served on rice. I throughly enjoyed it. The group with me ordered crab cakes, tacos, a burger and one got an impossible burger. Everyone said the enjoyed their meal. Bottled Boylan sodas are a fun beverage option and I do want to return to try some of their cocktails such as the Lobo Negro, featuring Mezcal and house-made ginger syrup. The place was clean and features art including watercolors, mostly of precious puppies and dogs. The service was friendly. I like the location a lot too - wedged between East Main and Weaver, the view outside the large windows proved to be lovely and entertaining - we saw a guy carrying a fluffy dog the size of a miniature horse, flung over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. I regret not getting the pickle chips as my side because they were perfectly battered and cooked. The food was good but on the more expensive side for what you get. Since Linda sold the restaurant the place has pretty much been complete well don't want to say it, service is always horrible I have had managers tell me that they owe me food that they messed up but I really don't care for it rather not go back ever again. It's a tiny cute little spot great location to walk to in town but the ambience is now awkward and feels like the staff is always angry or judgmental the cooks aren't as good as they once were the food is very different and taste gross and you can clearly tell the lack of professional from the preps of the back of the house, nothing is cleaned well or properly cooked or seasoned correctly. I'm sure their is still regulars that go for the nostalgia but even though I wasn't the biggest fan of Linda her way of working made that restaurant what it was back in the day and worth every penny read more

I love Spotted Dog! There aren't a lot of places around here that cater to vegetarian and vegan needs, but this sure is the place! Most dishes had a meat option but were all substitutable with a soy protein. I got the side salad with the spicy fried rice and soy chicken sandwich (love the pun on the dish name). Because of COVID, dining was all outside which was totally fine. The stir fry could have been a bit more spicy-- perhaps letting the waiter know as we did not ask for a higher spice taste. The soy chicken filet really great and super crispy. The patty is definitely on the thinner side compared to other soy patties I've had. Cute atmosphere (I love dogs so I love a place covered from ceiling to floor in dog decor)! Friendly staff and quick service. The food was okay but I say skip the drinks. We came in for a quick lunch before hoping around to local breweries. We ordered some Vegan nachos (which my friend states were better and different when she came the first time) and fish and chips. I wasn't a fan of the nachos because they were a bit soggy and the super thin chips were hard to find under all the salad mix and beans on top. I did, however, like the Fish and Chips. They looked more like fish strips than typical pub fish and chips but it was perfect for sharing. Plus the fries were fried to perfection. Now I will say to absolutely skip the standard Bloody Mary here though. Our drinks were very watered down, the olives tasted odd and as if they had been soaked in water and almost had a gluelike taste, plus it was a pretty small drink for $7. They had offered their specialty Bloody Mary for $9 but I'm not sure how much better it would've been. There are plenty of other places for drinks nearby. My partner and I are both vegan and they had some really great vegan options that didn't just seem as if they were there to be a placeholder, if you know what I mean. The dishes were thoughtful and the presentation was lovely. The vegan beef curry was so amazing that I was shocked at how delicious it was. My only complaint is that the macaroni was way too greasy that that the grease was leaking out of the cardboard container. Maybe use less oil next time and I will be five stars. read more
