I'm from SoCal and was craving some quality Mexican while in Springfield. I read some reviews and decided to give Purple Burrito a try. We had the Carne Asada burrito, Taquitos and Enchiladas combo plate to go. All were ready as promised when I arrived. I loaded up on their salsas and headed out. Upon arriving home I couldn't wait to eat as the aroma from the food filled my vehicle. All I items were as I had hoped. Burrito was loaded with very flavorful Carne Asada and enchiladas were fresh with a great red sauce. I returned a few days later for another take out and was equally pleased. This is my first time eating food from the Purple Burrito. (I hear Beavis and Butthead chuckling somewhere.) I'd love to know where that name came from. I received my order through GrubHub. I ordered the two cheese enchilada dinner and it did not disappoint. It had that special some thing to the flavor of the corn tortillas that I enjoy. It was perfectly cooked however the seasoning is quite mild. Which is what the salsa is for. Signature Salsa is something I look forward to from each Mexican food restaurant as everyone has their own spin on it. However I have no idea with The Purple Burrito's is like as I didn't receive any. It gave me a opportunity to focus on the flavor and quality of the hard she'll chicken taco Iuntainted by salsa and I have to say even barely warm it was delicious. Nothing was greasy everything was cooked to perfection, and the mildness of the dish is sure to not aggravate my stomach. In short I really didn't miss the salsa although I would've enjoyed being able to taste it and review it So I give the purple burrito four stars for excellent food despite the lack of salsa! The Purple Burrito California style restaurant's reputation is definitely founded in facts. I tried their steak chimichanga plate. The fried burrito is a perfect golden brown and filled with meat. Most restaurants only have about a quarter pound of meat but Purple Burritos chimichanga, I estimated, has close to a pound of meat!! How do they do that?! They absolutely give you what you pay for! Their fried burrito is crispy on the outside, juicy and tasty on the inside. The rice and beans are standard Mexican food fair. Their horchata tastes home made and fresh. Their hot sauce isn't the spiciest that I've had but it's plenty hot. I recommend the tasty Purple Burrito, you need to check them out if you are ever in Springfield MO, you won't be disappointed and you definitely won't leave hungry! read more

I just moved to Springfield. The movers I hired recommend The Purple Burrito. I felt a bit disoriented when I walked in. I couldn't figure out where to order, and the menu is rather large. It is a large blackboard over the counter with an array of things to choose from. With that said, I would have no problem figuring things out on my next visit. There is a great selection to choose from. Tortas, chimichangas, enchiladas. The variety of tacos is amazing. From cows tongue to carne asada. I decided to go with the fish tacos. The place has a very casual feel. Very clean and plenty of places to sit. Nothing fancy. The workers where very friendly and helpful as well. The fish tacos weren't available in a combination plate, but the gentleman obliged and made it a combo for me anyhow. The fish tacos were delicious. Crispy and tender deep fried fish. Served in fresh corn tortillas, and topped with red cabbage, tomato, lettuce, onion, cilantro, shredded cheese, and crema. I do wish I would have ordered an extra! The combo came with the standard refried beans and rice. Good, but nothing mind blowing. It truly was about the tacos. I ordered a large horchata to drink. I did find it a bit pricey. By the time I ordered this two taco combo and add a drink, I spent over $10. On my next trip, I'll forgo the beans and rice and get a couple more tacos instead. They sell for $2.25 each. That's a pretty good deal for the quality. They do offer specials that include a drink at a great price, but I wanted the fish tacos. I will most definitely be returning and probably soon. I'm born, raised and live in Oceanside, California my whole life. Nailed it Purple Burrito! Taste, selection even the decor ( Chargers! ) . Been here for 2 months exploring the U.S. Missed our " Bertos type" CA Mex food. FOUND IT! Salsa and veggi bar with large selection. Enjoyed the Mid-West addition of sweet and spicy salsa and the Queso dip!!! The best... Sweet and spicy!!!! My only problem with this little gem. I'll never find that salsa in CA! And I'm wishing I had a large vat of it to take home! Everyone in our party loved their food. My shrimp burrito was served with chip, salsa bar for $6.55. I lost all hope in all locations. They used to be my favorite but they upped their prices. I've been burned too many times with them not being open at the time that they advertise. After waiting 25 minutes, today was the last straw. You shouldn't have to do this, but if you want to go I suggest calling ahead to make sure they're actually open. Good luck. read more

I have to think these 4 star reviews are fake or written by bored staff with nothing better to do. Actually I would say their food in general is a bit lacking in flavor. There's also cilantro on almost everything, which maybe some folks would like, but it was too much for me. My husband and I were thoroughly impressed with this place on our last visit back to Springfield. As you'll read, the atmosphere/decor is a little strange, but name one Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurant where the decor isn't a little tacky. That's part of the charm! I wasn't starving, so I just had the cheese quesadilla and some chips/guacamole. It was the perfect amount of food and REALLY tasty. I'm not sure what cheese they were using, but it was tangy, gooey, cheesy goodness! My husband had a burrito and a taco with a drink, and our whole meal was just $11. Crazy! He seemed pleased with his choices as well. We were there with an old friend and ended up going upstairs where nobody was seated, and played cards for 2 hours. Forget chipotle or qdoba. There's no point in those restaurants when you can get fresh authentic ingredients in your burrito. Not only that, but the price is much more reasonable than doba or chipotle. This has been one of my favorite restaurants in Springfield ever since it opened and I plan to support them as long as I live in this city. Well, I did some research and what makes it a California burrito is that they have french fries on them. And lo and behold, the "Purple Burrito" comes with fries! Hurray! My friend Liz ordered this burrito and from what I could tell was extremely satisfied. She said when she saw that it came with french fries IN the burrito, she had to have it! The only drawback to this Burrito place is 1) Why PURPLE burrito? The tortillas were not dyed purple... and 2) if you want cheese on your food you have to pay extra. It was good, it was great. Purple Burrito is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. I'm not a fan of my Mexican food smothered in cheese and sour cream, and definitely not a fan of whatever slop Mexican Villa serves up, so this is where I go when I want something more authentic. The carnitas are delicious and, although the fish tacos were really questionable when they first opened (shredded iceberg, cheese, and something resembling ranch dressing), they've since improved them a lot and they are really decent. Purple Burrito is not everyone's cup of salsa. However, this Cali-style, low-key, very informal eatery has some great menu items at very reasonable prices. They just may not be what you typically think of when you order a particular dish. Two recommendations: The beef and chicken fajitas are wonderful and a great value. Like so many other reviewers, I am a recent California transplant - although from the Bay Area, rather that SoCal. And Boo and I have been looking high and low for burritos to fill that Mission-shaped hole in our hearts. Purple burrito looks rather unassuming, but definitely delivers in taste, excellent service, and value! We've had the fish burrito, carnitas burrito, various tacos, and the California burrito. While *technically* more of a San Diego burrito rather than CA, it is still super delicious! I recommend all of them - I usually go for the CA or fish burrito. It often works that Boo and I split one giant burrito and he'll supplement maybe with a taco. He's always surprised by how large the tacos are! A satisfying dinner for both of us for less than $10! The spicy carrots and the sweet & spicy salsa also really hit the spot. Some things of note: - They might consider offering whole pinto beans as well as the refried ones. We mentioned this to the owner's brother (who was behind the counter, and very friendly) and he suggested that we come by in the morning to try and score some whole pintos before they get mushed up! We'll definitely try that. - I think they should rename the CA burrito to the San Diego burrito (although may be confusing to some folks) and offer a Mission burrito too! Spread the good word! - One thing that I was unhappy about is that they use styrofoam plates. I would recommend either normal plates (reusable) or paper plates. As they have reusable water glasses, I'd assume they already have a dishwashing setup. In any case, keep up the good work Purple Burrito! I hope to see you all again soon! read more
