Food was just "alright". I had a grilled cheese add pork and a cup of tomato basil soup. The soup was a tad lumpier than I prefer and the sandwich was good. Amazing little place tucked in right near the Incline train thing. We were tourists coming for the incline and this was so convenient. Great food, pleasant people. My friend had the stuffed baked potato which was like two meals. I had the pork sandwich, which was good but not wow. We ended up coming back the next day also! I forget what we had the second time, but I remember we enjoyed it. Parking tip, the lot for the incline is a short walk away and you can avoid the crowded little parking lot for a few bux. Upon walking into the restaurant, I felt like had walked back into the 50's. I think I recognized my parent's old dinette set, weird. The service was good overall, the staff was very attentive. The portion sizes were excellent, but the food itself, just average. The smoke was too light for my liking, the sides just average, and I cannot believe there weren't even greens offered. Very eclectic everything, from the cool, hodgepodge interior to a menu with something for everyone, including one of the most unique sandwiches I've experienced - The Rainbow Sandwich! Came by at 6:15pm on a Saturday with plenty of seating available both inside and out. Staff was friendly and service was quick. We got the pork nachos and smoked wings. If you are driving up the mountain either to go to rock city or staying on the mountain for your weekend getaway, this is the perfect casual spot for a quick lunch. I had read about the rainbow sandwich and was intrigued and knew I had to order. This is a three layer sandwich with pimento cheese, chicken salad, and a cucumber spread. It is absolutely addicting. I did half of a sandwich with a cup of chili. My husband got the barbecue nachos. We were both happy with our lunch and it was a great stop after our drive down from Nashville. We ordered the rib combo plate which came with 3 ribs, pulled pork, 2 sides, and a slice of Texas toast for $17. We opted for the hashbrown casserole and corn on the cob. The ribs were amazing, as were the sides. The pork was lacking in BBQ flavor which was disappointing. The BBQ sauces tasted vinegar-based to both of us. The dirt cup was good but I would recommend they consider using chocolate pudding instead of vanilla. When I saw it on the menu I was transported back to my childhood and excited to give it a try, only to be slightly disappointed that it was made with vanilla pudding. After doing the incline railway, we were hungry. My friend, a local, recommended this place. The place wasn't busy, the staff was sitting around. They were quick to get our orders, friendly. Food came out quickly. The loaded potato was HUGE!! It fed 3 of us. My husband got the pulled pork tacos and my son got the Buffalo quesadilla (also pretty big). Everything was served hot, the pork was tender had good flavor. Their bbq sauces were also flavorful. I enjoyed the spicy version. Their fruit tea was very refreshing but a bit too sweet for me. I had to ask for another cup of ice to water it down a bit. A tropical tea (a splash of bacardi would make it a great cocktail)!! Yummy drink. The only let down was their banana pudding. I was told by my friend that it was supposed to be really good. It was not to my liking. And I LOVE banana pudding. Very thick, tasted like whipped condensed milk mixed with whipped cream. It was very cheesy/creamy. The baked beans were also great. There are 3 yummy sauces on the table that you can use. The only underwhelming part was the toast - it was a little cold and not as flavorful as I'd like. I don't know what has changed at Purple Daisy but it's not at all like it used to be. We popped in last night for dinner and the food was awful. We've eaten there for years so it was a real surprise. The pulled pork plate is no longer pulled pork but chopped pork. Half of my pork was fat which never used to have any fat in it at all. Has the business changed hands? I don't know but the hash brown casserole wasn't completely cooked. It was barely edible. I hope it is a fluke but it is nothing like the delicious meal it used to be.
