I finally rode out to Wardlaw's Lucky Eye Q and I'm honestly still trying to process how good this place is. This is one of those "out of the way, but worth every mile" type spots. No fluff, no gimmicks... just straight-up barbecue done right. I ordered the super sampler, which comes with five meats and three sides for $48, and let me tell you... the portion size is insane. This isn't your typical sampler you share between two people. This is easily enough food for four or five people. The pictures honestly don't do it justice. Let's talk about the meats. The brisket was everything you want. Juicy, tender, perfect fat-to-meat ratio, and the bark was excellent. Same with the ribs -- tender but still holding together when you pick them up. No sauce needed at all. The pulled pork... I don't say this lightly... this is the best pulled pork I've ever had. It melts in your mouth and is packed with flavor. It actually made me wonder how good their pulled pork sandwich must be. The sausage surprised me. I usually get tired of sausage quickly, but this one had a unique flavor and was one of the best I've had. The chicken was also tender, juicy, and well seasoned. Now the sides... Cheesy grits were extremely flavorful and easily compete with some of the best I've had. Mac and cheese is simple, homemade, and done right. The green beans were some of the best I've ever had -- not sure what they're doing, but it works. Potato salad was excellent, baked beans were sweet and spot on, and even the Brunswick stew (which I don't usually go for) was solid with a more tomato-forward flavor. Dessert sealed the deal. The banana pudding absolutely lives up to the hype. Every bite has those crushed wafers mixed in, and the texture and flavor are just perfect. One of the best banana puddings I've had anywhere. They also have multiple house sauces (Carolina, Texas-style, Georgia-style), and the Georgia sauce was my favorite. Service was A+. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and helpful, even while the place was packed. And yes, it gets PACKED. I got there right when they opened and there was already a line. They do have extra seating outside, but if you don't get there early, be prepared to wait or take it to go. Parking, though, is actually not an issue. There's parking across the street, some on the side, and a large dirt lot in the back where most people were parking. Even with how busy it gets, there's plenty of space if you know where to look. I honestly can't believe a place this good is tucked away in northwest Georgia. This is one of those true hidden gems... but the locals clearly already know. This ride was 100% worth it. I get excited about it and my brain tingles go all over the place. But the reality of the situation...of THIS situation...is there aren't enough words to describe the flavors I experienced that day. The brisket was SO tender. Perfectly fatty. Perfectly seasoned. The baked beans? I'd wear them like a second skin. That impromptu sausage sandwich? Buddy. It was sausage on a grilled bun. This is hands down the best barbecue, I've ever had. Many people recommended this place to me and I've been wanting to go try it. Finally today me and my wife, went to try it. We ordered the eating good, which is great for 2 people and had you select the 3 different types of meat. We ending up ordering the brisket, the spicy sausage, and the pork ribs. This also comes with 2 sides. We ordered Mac and cheese, beans, corn, and potato salad. I also like the fact, that they have glass bottle Dr. Pepper and Root Beer. We got our food and set down to eat it. The first bites were amazing, the meat was cooked to perfection. My favorite was the sausage and the ribs fell off the bone. What can I say about this place beside it being the best BBQ outside of Texas-not only is the brisket melt in your mouth good but also the sausage (which you will rarely find tn/ga), pulled pork is tender as well as beef ribs. Oh my God! We moved to Chattanooga from Houston Texas a year ago. I've been trying to find a good barbecue place and heard about Wardlaw's Lucky Eye Q. I drove 50 minutes to get there and it was definitely worth the drive! Everything was absolutely delicious. The owner lived in Texas for many years and his dream was to open a BBQ restaurant in his hometown when he moved back to Lafayette. I met him and he's very nice. He even does the cutting of the meat when you order in front of you Just like Texas. I told him he knows how to cook a brisket. The brisket and ribs were amazing and I couldn't get over how good the cheese grits were. I also tried the Brunswick stew which I had never had and it was very, very good. My father and I are MASSIVE barbecue fans. We have driven hours out of the way to eat at good BBQ joints on family trips. We even did an overnight trip once, going a full day's driving out of the way, to try the then highest rated BBQ spot by Southern Living (Scott's BBQ in Hemingway SC). But it was by pure happenstance (a ride from Atlanta to Chattanooga and a mid-trip comment "I wonder if there's any good bbq around Chattanooga?") that we ended up at Lucky Eye Q. And boy oh boy are we glad we did! I can confidently say that Wardlaw's L-E-Q is a top 5 barbecue restaurant in the country and in my humble opinion, they aren't #5, #4, #3 or even #2. Yes, this place is THAT GOOD. Before sampling their food, if I'd have suggested the best texas-style BBQ wasn't in Texas but rather Georgia, I'd have slapped myself for saying something so crazy, but it's true. The owner and pitmaster Robert and his team are doing something truly special in this small Georgia town. He calls it "Love thru BBQ" and you really feel that commitment to quality and excellent service from the moment you hit the front door here. The staff couldn't be nicer or more welcoming; we were asked if there was anything else we needed or anything they could do for us upwards of five times throughout our visit. One extremely nice gentleman even insisted on refilling our drinks for us when he heard the tell-tale signs of an empty cup. You'll have about a 15 minute wait from the time you hit the inside of the restaurant till it's your turn at the cutting board. Try not to drool while you're waiting and looking at everyone's plates (this is difficult, maybe even impossible). Once you're at the cutting board, you'll see the owner and pitmaster Robert literally standing behind his product, slicing every piece of meat that goes on a customer's tray with a knowing smile that his BBQ is about to rock your world. If it's your first time here, the staff will recommend one of the sampler platters... listen to them. Make sure to get the brisket, pork ribs, hot link (or regular sausage if you don't like spice), and if you're coming for dinner, make sure to add a Beef Rib. The Beef Rib here is BBQ Nirvana so do yourself a favor and COME DURING DINNER (the only time they're available)!!! (And make sure you get there right around 5 PM when they open so you don't risk them selling out... they go fast!). The sides and dessert are amazing too. The mac and cheese is among the best I've had anywhere. And the cheesy grits, baked beans and potato salad were all delicious as well. The Neapolitan Cake (the rotating seasonal dessert at the time of our visit) was a spectacular way to end our meal too. I'm not sure what else I can say... this place is BBQ Heaven. If you're anywhere in the proximity of North Georgia, you should go here - definitely the best barbecue I've had in Georgia and hands down the best brisket I've had outside Texas. It was so good that I couldn't stop eating standing up when I got to the table (embarrassing, I know). Most places the brisket is in nice strips, this guy just threw it on the tray and it looked awful. The flavor was decent but very fatty, even for brisket. The corn was mediocre, probably frozen. The Mac and cheese looked and tasted like it was a week old, nasty! The pudding was good but not good enough to save the rest of the meal. The people were nice and I want so bad to like this place but three strikes and you're out! The restaurant is decorated nicely and it has a great atmosphere but the food is so bad! I'm blown away that people rave about this place! Oh, and by the way, who serves a bun as the bread??? No roll, no toast. A hamburger bun!!! Ridiculous!
