This is now our favorite park! We love the large sites and the quiet camping circle! Fishing and swimming was fun! Park rangers in the office were very nice! Checked out a Junior Ranger backpack and hiked one of the hiking trails (couldn't do much more because it had been raining). We will be back for sure! We stayed in the site across from the entrance to the fishing pier and then again next to the shower house. read more

Nice park situated on a small lake. My wife and I were up for the Ennis Bluebonnet trails and camped for 2 nights. We had a nice campsite near the edge of the lake. It was spring so not too bad with bugs. There was a huge thunderstorm the first night so the ground was really soggy the next day. Our tent did not leak but the next day when the sun was out we unpegged it and turned it over for the bottom and the ground beneath to dry out. We had our dog and she and I did several walks on trails. The park restrooms were fine, they do a great job of keeping them clean. About the only negative thing was the erosion next to where we parked our truck, almost a 10 inch drop off but I see this a lot at Texas state parks. I wish the Texas state government would put more into maintenance. read more

Purtis Creek State Park has great spots for fishing and hiking. I was hopeful to see a beaver by their namesake trail but didn't. The Wolfpen Hike Trails weren't too challenging and I didn't see anyone on the paths. read more

This maybe the smallest state park in Texas. But as usual, it's the quality that shines through. It has a lovely lake and a compact network of trails. The lady at the entrance was one of the nicest people I've met. $5 well spent! read more

This is a beautiful lake! Beautiful scenery, calm, peaceful and clean! Camping spots are well maintained and spaced enough so that you aren't so close to your neighbor. I visited Purtis Creek State Park recently while scouting locations to tent camp not too far from my east Dallas home. While there are closer options, PCSP makes a lot of sense especially if you're a fisherman/woman/child. The park surrounds a 355 acre surface area lake and boasts of its bass fishing. Not being an angler, I'll take their word for it. But I do love to camp out and PCSP can accommodate everyone from tent campers to bus size RVs. They also have the usual state park amenities - swimming beach, paddle boats and canoes, a day use area. The park store rents canoes, kayaks and paddle boats. But fishing is the big deal here. They'll even loan you fishing equipment. And if you are lucky enough to catch a Black Bass, well, they're catch and release. You'll have to be content with catfish, crappie, bluegill and others. Camping is in a shaded and secluded part of the park and some sites offer a view of the lake. You can also hike, bike and enjoy nature. The park staff I met were all friendly and helpful. Canton is nearby if Trade Days is your thing. Edom's not too far away. There are plenty of dining opportunities in the area if so desire. But what I like best is its a place to get away from it all and take some "me" time. read more

We camped at site 26 in our 17 ft travel trailer for 3 nights. The campground is really nice. The sites are spacious. Our site in particular had a lot of privacy, which we enjoy. View of the woods. Public bathrooms and showers are available. They are outdated but kept clean. Couldn't hear any road noise from the campground. The trail system is nice here. The there are about 4 or 5 trails and they are all short- about 2 miles at most. Good for a quick hike and then back to campground for a break. Dogs are allowed on leash on the trails. Some of the trails walk along the lake. Apparently, this park is good for fishing, but we did not fish here. I enjoyed this park, would go again. read more

We did primitive camping; many good spots available, each with its pros and cons but all with privacy and plenty of shade. Each spot is on the water for easy access fishing but be careful of trees/stumps in the water! There ARE raccoons and they WILL get your food if it is not properly stored However there are not hooks to hang any bags/trash. read more

Enjoyed a weekend with a group of friends, having to use 4 sites as most sites can BARELY accommodate 2 tents. We had a total of 9 tents and a overly large camper, so we made it work. The tree coverage is dense with shade, a huge bonus, however, does limit space for larger tents if want more than one on a site. We used the electricity + water sites, there are primitive sites as well as water only sites, all in separate areas. Primitive sites, of course, no restroom facilities, water only and water + electricity facilities each have one restroom facility. The W + E area needs 2 restroom facilities as TP in the ladies areas runs out and both M+ F are at times SRO on weekends. There are showers available in the restrooms at each of the camping areas as well as soap to wash the paws (a great thing as not all State Parks have soap). The hiking trails are fun, gratefully didn't run into any snakes, altho the overgrowth warranted an encounter or 2. Bikers can get bogged into many spots as the rains have created many mini-ponds amongst all parts of the 3-sectional trail(notice map shows red, green and blue sections). The yellow trail (pardon me as I don't recall the trails' name) is where on Sat mornings, the rangers lead a lil over a mile informative hike thru a pretty section where the primitive camping is also to be found. Biking with all ages can be found thruout the park as the roads are respectfully driven slowly to allow ones to ride safely. One last thing, if camping, store your cooler and food inside vehicles ANY time of day. Otherwise, you won't receive a thank you from the raccoons, but nonetheless, they enjoyed what you left behind. read more

Purtis Creek State Park - Grand entrance, hard to miss... - Fishing Near Me - Eustace, Texas

I really just stayed up front at the entrance, since I wanted to see what this place was like. The office was closed by the time I made it, and I needed to use the restroom by then. So I used the one by the front office, which had a nice skylight, even though it was just a one-seater, and did not have soap. Next time I come here, I might like to try one of the hiking or biking trails, or a paddling trail, or swimming hole. I got a new app for Texas State Parks, & would like to look into getting a Texas Park Pass, if only it could be ordered online or kept/saved on my phone so I wouldn't have to keep up with one more card in my wallet. But I would love to come back here with my family for a spring or summer outing! read more

Private camping spots are waaaaay too far from vehicle parking so be prepared the haul your gear and make multiple trips. I caught one largemouth bass over a 1 day/night span. Although it was big enough for second place in our tournament it wasnt as exciting as I had hoped. Area is nice and it is east Texas but just be prepared to make multiple treks to and from your vehicle to your camp if you are staying multiple nights. They need 4-mules or 4-wheelers in and out of this place. I was walking back from closing down my camp and I had full body stacked sleeping bag, full tent bag, air mattress, 2 fishing poles, tackle box, family size cooler, trash bag (no trash bins you have to bring your trash out), sitting chair, full backpack and utlility belt and I thought I was not going to make it back to parking taking multiple breaks to catch my breath. I started to hear an engine. It was a park ranger who pulled up with a 2 seater 4-wheeler and a wagon backend and saw me with all my gear gasping for breath and drenched in sweat and says "any luck?" I said yeah "I got second place in my tournament" he said "okay" and keeps driving on away. thanks for the ride man. not. read more
