We met up with another couple from out of town here, and while they have a lot of items marked gluten-free on the menu, heads up to anyone with Celiac disease: they do not have a dedicated gluten-free fryer. This means the fries and chips are a cross-contamination risk. When I informed our server that I have Celiac and asked which cocktails were safe, he immediately went to check and verify with the manager, and then let me know the margarita was safe. I deeply appreciated that he took my condition seriously and looped in management to ensure everything was good. The manager then came over to discuss options and was incredibly transparent, letting me know right away that the flatbread would also not be safe for Celiac due to cross-contamination. For our meal, we shared the roasted sweet potatoes, and the kitchen took the extra step to cook them in a separate pan to ensure they were safe. They were absolutely delicious. For my main, I ordered the Beyond Burger with cheddar cheese on a gluten-free bun. Since I couldn't have any of the standard sides due to the fryer, the server kindly offered a side salad with a safe, gluten-free dressing instead. It was also a nice bonus to see they have a gluten-free brownie for dessert. The staff really saved the night here. The server was highly attentive and constantly checked with the manager or kitchen to verify ingredients, and the manager even came back near the end of our meal to personally check in and make sure I was feeling okay. If you have Celiac, you will have to navigate around the fryer and flatbreads, but the staff's carefulness, communication, and willingness to adapt dishes made me feel very safe dining here. Booked for a group of 12 on a friday night, so I anticipated for it being busy. I didnt expect how little direction, communication or help there would be. On multiple instances our group of 12 was holding up the line for parties after us, getting glares from other patrons and staff isn't ever fun. We were never informed we could play multiple holes at once or didn't have to wait for the entire party to finish the hole to move onto the next. It seemed like our party, and the 4 parties waiting after us also didn't know this, so we felt pressured to run through the course to be out of the way, which was not enjoyable, but fine I can let that go. Our party went to order cocktails. THREE separate cocktails (margarita, paloma, boogie juice) they were out of the ingredients to make all three. Waitress didn't offer a different suggestion rather just had us rattle off more drinks while she checked whether they were available or not. Extremely disorganized and discouraging. Our party brought 2 cake and our own plates/napkins. We split the cakes, left our belongings at the table and went to play another round and get some shots at the bar. When we came back to our table both of our cakes were THROWN OUT by staff but left us the boxes the cakes came in. GREAT thanks for leaving the boxes and tossing the cake. All in all, if you're looking for a place for a group larger than 6, with ingredients to make a basic cocktail, and common sense customer service, DO NOT come to Puttshack- Skokie. This place sucks. The basic bar food is gross. The pizza changed recipe 3 times. And it's not very healthy. There is edamame and brussel sprouts. But that is not prepared in a healthy banner either. The burgers, poutine and everything else is greasy and fattening and nothing. Also except Sundays it's not cheap. Plus I am banned for life. The manager was really rude and accused me of making others uncomfortable. Nobody complained. He was the only one. I did not even touch anyone or talk to everyone and was behind the whole time and kept a distance. I was following simply because I was behind and on the same hole and for no other reason. This was a mixed bag for us. My husband and I took our five year old son here recently. Ultimately it was a fun experience but with a few caveats. The restaurant inside is convenient and our server was great. The woman working inside the kitchen was also extremely sweet to our son. My husband ordered the burger and said it was great. I had the hot chicken sandwich and it was very dry. Prices were reasonable so I'd say this lands in the "fine" range. There are four courses of nine holes each - ruby, emerald, sapphire, and amber. Some holes do repeat across all courses, which seemed odd. The designs were fun for both adults and kids. We definitely had a great time on the two courses we did. It did get a bit congested at one point, and they were not very busy. For whatever reason 90% of the groups were on two adjacent courses while the other two courses had one group between them. The distribution was not the best. There are also these numbered posts at the front of each hole to let you know which hole you're at. The problem is they are directly in the way of your swing. It's a strange design. The ball automatically keeps track of your strokes. This was pretty cool and we all had a great time with it. However, the voiceover that tallies your strokes at the end is very sarcastic and pokes fun at you if you go over. This is funny for adults but discouraging for kids. My son was having fun and then heard the voiceover and asked if he did a bad job. It would be great to have the option to play without the voiceover if you're playing with kids. My husband and I just kind of cheered over it to keep our kid distracted. We had a lot of fun and found it reasonably priced ($52 for three of us to play two 9 hole courses). Very nice facility. At first, when you walk in the CLOAKROOM with an employee. To the left are two flights of stairs, and if I remember correctly, there are two elevators. Once you top the stairs, there is an open space with plenty of seating and a large full bar. Off to the right is the Challange Holes. To the left is the check-in area. There are several, and they are all digital. Going straight ahead, there is a large seating areas and appear to be food prepping area. Off to the left is the Emerald and Ruby putting area, and to the right is the Sapphire and Amber putting area. We played on the Sapphire course. Sadly, we were only able to get to hole #2 before we got the call from the hospital. I went over to ask the manager if we could possibly get a gift card to return at a later date, and he was more than accommodating and provided us with free games for our return. I do like that everything is digital, and you can earn extra points, but don't skip that you can lose points also. On hole #1, I got my ball in the green hole for a hole in one and earned extra points, all the others lost points. Very nice places, and everyone was so kind. Can't wait to return. read more

I've been to the Puttshack in Old Orchard many times and always wished we had one in the North Shore. And about a year ago I found out my prayers were answered when they announced Old Orhchard was getting a Puttshack. The construction seemed to take longer than expected, but they finally opened up their doors in June...and it was worth the wait. It's such a great spot for to kill a little time with our kids. 9 holes takes about 30 minutes and if you're really feeling ambitious you can do both courses and make it an hour. We went for some family fun this past weekend and then walked over to Bar Siena for dinner. However, I've eaten at the Oakbrook Puttshack many times and the food is pretty good! I expected it to be more crowded on a Sat night, but there were only a few people on the course and the restaurant itself wasn't very full. My husband even asked if we wanted to eat there instead. I was tempted, but we had a reservation at Bar Siena so will save Puttshack for next time. I'm especially excited to have this as an excuse to drag my boys to the mall. While my daughter never has to be convinced to head to the mall, they could use a fun activity there. We've attended some fun larger events at Oakbrook (ex: bat mitzvah) and it looks like this Puttshack has the space to do the same so will also consider for any big or small event needs I have in the future. read more

First time visiting here! Excited to see what this was about! When we walked in we had two sessions scheduled at the mini golf. Both were good. Lots of fun. Great for families and kids. The courses were clean and the staff was knowledgeable and helpful. We stopped between courses for a drink at the bar and opted for two non-alcoholic drinks (see photo with menu) and if I could give 0 stars I would. Very bitter tasting. For something with agave or lime or whatever, even if it's a spritzer, it tasted like the bitter pit of a fruit. Zero sweetness. Someone revamp that menu quick. Because if I were given a fantastic drink I would've ordered another. We drank maybe 1/3? Of the drink and anyway. The food: 5 stars. Such a contrast in the offerings. Amazing food. The salad? Muah! 5 stars. Tacos? 5 stars. Definitely coming again. The manager or someone came up to us when we were eating and seemed to be checking in with customers about their experience. What a fun venue and restaurant! Walking into the place you have to walk up the stairs. The dining area/bar is in the middle and on either end are the courses, two on each side. We first sat down for a meal, and coming on a early weeknight it was not that busy at all when we arrived. They had a happy hour deals for $6 of four different kinds of shareables. We tried all four. The loaded tots, Nashville hot chicken baos, onion dip with chips and southwest quesadillas. Our favorites were the loaded tots and onion dip. The loaded tots had a decent amount of small strips of bacon and was covered with a white and cheddar queso. Very good and tasty and the right amount of toppings on it. The onion dip was good too, the dip came in what looked like a smaller sauce side but there was plenty, we had leftover dip after finishing the chips. The bao were decent sized, came in a set of 2 and wasn't overly spicy. The least favorite was the quesadillas, just not much to the flavor and filling. After eating we played a 9 hole round of putt putt. The holes are fun and interactive. You pay for the round at the kiosks and then get your ball at the start of the course. Each hole is digitized and shots are auto calculated for a score. It was a fun way to play putt putt. read more

I visited Puttshack for the first time with friends and it was such a fun and unique experience. The technology makes it so convenient, as you don't need to manually track points or hits like you usually do for mini golf. It also is such a fun spin on mini golf, because no hole is like the last! Each round (9 holes) took four players about 30-45 minutes, which makes the $14 cost per player reasonable. However, we ended up wanting to play 2 more rounds, so the all you can putt Sunday $25 deal might be the best option if you're planning to do more than one round. We enjoyed some drinks while playing (which may I say made the experience even more fun) and it was so convenient to drink and play, as there were stations to leave your drink on while you played. There were also hooks for hanging purses and coats at every station. The drinks themselves were great and reasonably priced (around $13-16 per cocktail). We had such a fun time and I'd love to go back with friends or family. read more

Puttshack was a really fun experience, and I loved how organized everything was from start to finish. If you register online ahead of time, you can send a link to your group so everyone can sign up beforehand. Once you arrive, it's super easy. You just head to the floor and watch the screens for your turn. Everyone also gets text messages when it's time to tee off, which makes the whole process smooth and stress-free. There's also a complimentary coat check on the first floor, which is a nice touch and very convenient. Parking tip: use the red garage. It's directly across from Puttshack and will save you time instead of parking on the other side of the mall. Overall, a really well-run spot and a great time. I'd definitely go back. read more

We recently visited for both dinner and mini golf with a group of people. We just had reservations for both and was not there as part of a pre-arranged event or party. Old Orchard is a great location and Puttshack is located on a second level above Crate & Barrel. Basically it is just north of the center of the mall facing Skokie Blvd. They have elevators in addition to stairs making their location accessible for anyone. The hostess sat our group in the corner of the bar where our tables were booth seating on one side and chairs on the other. Behind the booth seating was a wall of games that I assumed was shuffleboard, but am not sure. There was a group of twenty-somethings and they were dressed in barely there clothes and didn't want to come off as some kind of peeping tom figuring out the games. A server came by and asked for our drink order and we said we were waiting for the rest of our party. He said he'd return in a few minutes. Two minutes later, the rest of our party arrived and our server never returned. We had to flag down a server 35 minutes after our entire group arrived. The server came over, apologized for the other server and then took drink (yeah, drink) orders. We also placed food orders because we thought we'd never see our server again. Within 20 minutes, food and drinks arrived for a few people in our group. The first couple people got both their food and drinks. Note: funny story (teaching moment): a Modelo beer was ordered and a Corona beer was brought as they were out of Modelo. Hey servers: ask the diner if they want something different, don't decide for them. We got our dinner and appetizer at the same time. My wife got her beer. I never got my cocktail. I also ordered the chicken and waffle flatbread. The chicken was supposed to be housemade fried chicken on a waffle with jalapeño gravy and maple syrup. I got grilled chicken on a flatbread with gravy and syrup. The rest of our group got their food, but no cocktails. So we flagged down our server (who never checked on us) and he stated that he isn't normally a server but is a tradesman by day. Well? So, what? If you're serving food in a server capacity then you're a server. That's not an excuse for crappy work. We then had to find a manager (the second one we have now spoken to about the crappy service and missed drinks and wrong food orders). The first manager refunded our mini golf. The second one now comped our food and drinks. Then offered us drinks while we played mini golf. There were too many people on the course. It was so slow moving. The drinks they gave me were a can of cider and a High Noon. Both were warm. Why? There are four courses inside the Puttshack and this one was so overloaded with people that some groups stopped playing altogether because there was no where to stand and other groups moved slowly. Having chipped balls (like Top Golf) is a cool idea. How about offering multiple colors so everyone doesn't have a white ball? Hell, Par King does that and their balls aren't chipped. One might say all the issues we had was due to a busy bar or a packed restaurant. The bar was slow as I watched one of the four bartenders wash an entire stack of glasses by hand, slowly. There were a couple parties going on with dedicated servers. The kitchen, once our orders were taken, had food out pretty darn fast. The problems we had was incredibly bad service and managers who didn't act to remedy the issues except comping everything. They just kept replacing our bad servers with worse service. They've been open since Memorial Day. Will they still be open next Memorial Day? At this rate, I wouldn't bet on it. Eat elsewhere in the mall and then go enjoy their entertainment. I'm not going back, but at least I was able to warn you before you ventured out to have your night ruined. read more

I love puttshack and I'm glad a location opened up close to home! They have a full bar, food and games. There's 4 different 9 hole games you can go through. We did the amber and sapphire. Which were similar games. Kind of wish we got a game on the other side after the first game which is emerald and ruby. We got appetizers of quesabirria and Thai chicken bites. First timers. Last timers? As first-time visitors to Puttshack, we were excited by the concept and the space itself. The facility is new, visually appealing, and the idea of pairing tech-enabled mini golf with food and drinks has real potential. Unfortunately, the execution did not match the promise. The guest flow is not immediately clear for newcomers. We found ourselves standing unsure of next steps and ultimately asked for guidance before choosing to dine first. Once seated, service felt uneven. There was a noticeable delay before anyone approached our table, and several surrounding tables appeared to be in the same situation. Food arrived in a reasonable timeframe and was well-presented, but both entrées were lukewarm, which immediately impacted the experience. The quesabirria tacos suffered from this the most--the tortillas leaned more flatbread than traditional taco and lacked the heat (temperature) and texture needed to carry the dish. The meat was also quite fatty, which further detracted from the overall quality. The jalapeño burger was solid but unremarkable, and again, not served hot. Throughout the meal, basic requests--condiments, water refills, general check-ins--took an unusually long time. While there were multiple staff members present, there was little sense of proactive table coverage or ownership of the dining area. From our seats, staff were visible in the kitchen area, and the lack of urgency contrasted sharply with the needs of the floor. The mini golf itself was enjoyable. We played one 9-hole course, which moved quickly, and it's clear that booking multiple courses is necessary for guests who want a longer play experience. Pricing felt consistent with similar entertainment venues; however, value is heavily influenced by service, and that's where the experience fell short. One of the most concerning issues was the condition of the restrooms. Several stalls were completely out of toilet paper, which is a basic operational failure--especially for a high-traffic venue serving families during the holiday season. I didn't realize until it was too late and had to rely on someone in my party to bring toilet paper. This should never happen in a newly opened facility. Nice ambiance. New facility. Fun concept. But Puttshack is on a slippery slope toward becoming a grimy, poorly run venue if leadership doesn't get serious--fast. Right now, attention to service flow, food execution, and basic facility management is inconsistent. Until those fundamentals are addressed, the experience doesn't justify choosing it over other entertainment options in the area. read more

I love playing at Puttshack. The concept is unique and fun. I would give the golfing side 5 stars. However, the service side is a challenge. There was no one on one side of the golf course so I had to go seek out help by going to the hostess stand. Our table waited 10 minutes for a server to come to the table and no one came. I finally ordered our food at the bar. Despite being one of the only two tables, it took 45 minutes to get food. Our food was served way after those who had sat down after us. The price point is too high for average food/drinks and the long wait time. I would recommend coming to play, but skip the dining and bar experience. read more

Game review only - I spontaneously came with my family to play mini golf. It was very easy to sign up and pay using their kiosk inside. You can also book in advance online. It's right across from the parking garage which was nice for us because it rained that day and we didn't even get wet! The space is large and colorful. The service was good too. The staff were helpful and answer any questions you have. We did an hour of play which came to just under $100 for 2 adults and 2 children. We got to try two different courses with the hour of play. I really appreciate that they have golf clubs of various sizes, even for children. It's very organized and easy to follow the courses. The technology is incredible. Each player gets a ball assigned to them. The ball tracks how many shots you take and keeps your score. You get to see your score at each hole. Super cool. Dirty, overcrowded and understaffed. Workers were rude and our balls stopped working in the middle of the 6th hole. Had to go back 3x to get new balls while everyone got backed up even more. Didn't bother to come over to help. Went to our second round of 9 holes and again overcrowded and worker yelled at us for getting our balls from the self service kiosk (as that's how it worked on the first 9 holes). We changed gears and ordered things we didn't really want. Drinks arrived 20 minutes later including the water we needed to ask for 3 times. Another 30 minutes before food arrived. Since we figured we might never see the waitress again my wife found silverware and napkins that were never provided. Our shareable meals didn't include plates. So another in our group found some plates. Birria tacos were pretty good. My daughter's chicken tenders were probably the best tasting food. Comically they served her applesauce in a small stainless steel cup but only provided a gigantic serving spoon which didn't fit in the cup, which basically sums up this completely disjointed dining experience. The staff seemed like none had ever worked in a restaurant before. Or had much clue on how to do their jobs. Lackadaisical or confused seemed to be the theme. Come on. Water. Silverware. Plates.
