Zero stars. I ordered 3 yards of the 50/50 topsoil-compost blend because it was advertised as perfect for vegetable gardens. When it arrived, I had immediate doubts--it looked heavy, soggy, and clay-like. But I trusted the professionals and went ahead with it. Big mistake. This soil does not drain at all, compacts easily, and is absolutely not suited for growing vegetables. I've now spent a huge amount of time, money, and effort trying to amend and fix it--plus I'm stuck with extra unusable soil I can't even give away. Extremely disappointed and frustrated. GREAT IF YOU LIKE ROCKS! My first time here was a couple years ago to get soil for overlaying and filling in my yard for an overseed. They were our of 3-way so they recommended 2-way. They mentioned something about the screeding was not the best so there may be a few rocks, there were ALOT OF ROCKS. I went back last week to do the same project on a different yard. They had 3-way, I shared my experience with the rocks, and they assured me that this batch will be good. Purchased 1-yard, spread out all over my yard. It has sat for about a week and it rained. Negative 5 star review. I have been ordering from them for a while, never really had issues until the other day. Everyone is a 5 star company until they give you reason not to be, and their customer service really shows their true colors. I ordered a truck of gravel for delivery, and upon delivery the driver hit a fence post that was right on the side of my driveway. The truck got stuck and the driver kept trying to go back and forth on and off the edge of the driveway, but because the fence post was next to driveway it had broke the corner of the driveway. I saw the post was damaged and said it's alright I can just reset it with more concrete, but did not see the crack in the driveway until after the driver had left. After I called and sent an email with picture, the owner said there is nothing they can do to help and that I could just be lying about the whole thing because they get naysayers all the time. The driver even acknowledged what he had done and was apologizing, I'm not looking for 100% reimbursement but at least partial reimbursement or free load. They make you feel like you're nothing to them and they don't need your business. My company and my family will not be using them anymore after 10 years of business. read more

2nd time to use Puyallup bark 1st was 2021 for our rental property. No issues. We used them again this Labor Day weekend 2022. Needed 1 yard or so of 1.5 inch rock. Young Gal at front desk was very helpful and went over my measurements and project needs. Total cost with delivery was only $120. She gave an estimate of arrival time between 1 and 2 PM and the driver showed up right at 1 PM. Not recommended anymore. I used to recommend these guys as we've used them before with no issue. But this most recent trip left such a sour taste in my mouth that I won't be going back. - Ordered 1 yard of clean fill dirt - Go to unload at home and notice it's FILLED with rocks, some the size of soccer balls - Brought it back, and THEN get told "oh I thought regular fill would be fine because the clean fill dirt is practically mud" (nobody made that clear to me before, although they tried to argue) - Then got told to unload it, BY HAND MYSELF and I even had to find a shovel on my own - Asked for 3-way for the same price and was told "I'm not gonna just give away $6. You're refunded, my hands are clean, goodbye" So I left and got better dirt for a better price and better service down the road. read more

This is my 'local' bark/gravel, etc place. I ordered some 3-1 garden dirt and even pre-paid 40 yards of topsoil (for my yard project later ~ $1200). When I asked for a driver-I asked for someone with "experience". I got a driver that was hired that week.. and when he backed up-he backed into my HOUSE!! I was YELLING at him to stop before he did it to help avoid this from happening-even my neighbors in their houses heard me and came out... When he got out of his truck, he even admitted to hitting some lady's shed earlier that week. Needless to say, I wanted the damage to my house covered and the management pointed at my receipt saying, "any damage past the curb isn't our fault". I got some sort of compensation, but then I asked for my pre-paid top soil amount back. The OWNER then tried to accuse me of 'stealing' for asking for this back. He was trying to KEEP my deposit money!! I took him to court and he swore at me and whatnot, but later I FINALLY got my OWN money back!! Called and was told they had delivered 3 and if we wanted them to come out and measure they would but if we were wrong we would be charged $400 for them coming to measure. The owner of Puyallup Bark Supply is beyond ridiculous. Absolutely no customer service. His driver came to my door without a mask. I understand that not everyone believes COVID is a thing or not, but when I brought it up, the OWNER stated, "when a pandemic gets here, I'll worry about it then." I mentioned the Governor's mandate, and he called the Governor an idiot or some other derogatory term. I understand I was upset where the driver dropped the rock as it went onto my side yard instead of being entirely on the driveway. His driver claims to have put it where my wife told him. But that isn't completely factual as my security camera caught the conversation where my wife stating she could move the car, and he said she didn't need to. Let me also add that he was confused by their own process, claiming that he dumped the rock where the two women told him. There is only one woman at my house, but my neighbor ordered some at the same time. The driver can't even get that part right, but the owner doesn't care to listen. He cares more about being sarcastic, condescending, and ignoring the concerns of the customer. He also wanted to cancel my second order of rock, stating I'm unhappy and doesn't want to do business with me anymore. I basically had to beg him to deliver the other order since he won't pick up the rock he dumped. I can't complete what needs to be done with half the supply, and he knows this. Finally, he is willing to send the second order but once again is condensing, making comments like "make sure not to give his driver a hard time about not wearing a mask." I like the product but the lack of customer services is mind boggling. I wish I could go back and never order from here again, and I will make sure to recommend ANYONE else as obviously this Owner does not care about their customers. read more

I've been a customer for a number of years. They have a great selection of material and can usually deliver the next day if it is too much to haul yourself. I have always had a good experience and relied on that versus the reviews on Yelp. ( I wish I would have taken to Yelp sooner for customer experiences) A few weeks ago they missed the box of my truck while dumping rock. I didn't think much of it until I made it home and saw the damage. Much worse than I thought. A chip or 5 or even 10, I get it, stuff happens. I have 50+, so I stopped counting. I called the next business day and was told to send a photo of the damage, and they would see what the could do. After 3 weeks of calling and texting, I finally got and answer that there was nothing they could do. I understand accidents happen, but when I was told there was a new operator (after my truck was damaged) they still didn't offer any compensation or a call from the ("silent") owner. Just a "sorry" from a text message. I guess my newer model truck is of to let people learn how to dump rocks in, at my expense. No call from the owner, no consideration of suggestions to help prevent this in the future for others. My suggestions to Puyallup Bark Supply 1. Make or buy a 4' 1/2 CY bucket for loading 5.5' truck boxes or less. they load everything with a 6' bucket. Don't assume the operator knows how to use it. It could be their first day. 2. have customers sign a release or point it out when paying if they have a new driver or if you have a smaller truck box. to customers. 1. bring buckets - 20 - 5 gal buckets = 1/2 CY 2. borrow a trailer 3. don't worry about being "that customer". if you think there is damage, go inside and document while still there. get their insurance or at least get a refund, it won't cover the cost of the damage but its something. With all this, I was never expecting 100% coverage of damage. At least a call from the owner would have been nice, maybe some free material. covering 50% of the damage would have been very good customer service in my eyes. Estimates were from $350 to have a repair guy touch up, closer to $850 to repair and spray the side. Dealer would have probably been closer to $1000. I hope others can learn from my experience to prevent damage to their vehicles. read more

Let me start by saying I have done business here multiple times in the past including bark for our whole yard last year. I would give negative 5 stars if that was possible. The other day I ordered 4 yards of rock to be delivered. This morning when they came to deliver the rock, the truck driver hit the tree in my front yard and did major damage to it. I stopped in to discuss what had happened and was told by the rather rude lady up front that this isn't her problem and there is nothing they can do about it. I asked her if she knew her driver did this and she said she did. I asked when were they going to let me know that they damaged property and she told me she didn't need to let me know. I asked for a partial refund and was told this is not their problem. The customer means nothing to them. I will not be going here anymore and I suggest you do the same. I had a great experience at Puyallup Bark Supply. I needed to pick up some gravel. I was happy to learn that they will load half-yards of material, because my small utility trailer can't handle the weight of a full yard. Other places I've gone won't load anything less than a full yard. :-( The young woman at the counter was nice and helpful. The young man doing the loading was careful to slowly load my trailer and stopped when I told him to. :-) Most places just dump the whole load all at once from up high, which is hard on small trailers and trucks. They have the best price around for gravel. I can find bark and compost cheaper elsewhere. read more

I have never had a bulk order- only a few bags of sand at a time...the woman I spoke with on the phone was very nice and the owner himself is the one that loaded all the sand bags in my car. I live in Tacoma but the sand supply place I called first said they are not allowed to lift the bags for you (well I'm 6 months pregnant and can not be lifting 50lb+ bags of sand!) Ordered 20 yards of bark delivered. Driver, who was great, came and delivered the product. I told my wife it doesn't look like 20 yards. Our landscaper came the next morning to start spreading it and he indicated we got 13 yards.........he has been in the business for years and knows what 20 yards looks like. My wife called the office and the receptionist was rude.......my wife asked to speak to the manager and she said he wasn't there. Contemplating stopping our check and notifying the Better Business Bureau if we don't get a quick resolution. Our landscaper will bring in the additional bark from another supplier to finish our yard, but after reading prior yelp reviews we will not recommend this company to anyone. read more

Recently ordered 5 yards of gravel. When it arrived, it looked way less than 5 yards. I measured it with a friend (who works in the industry). It measured just over 3 Yards!!! I'm not sure how this place stays in business shorting customers like this and I wish I had read all similar reviews about getting Stiffed by the place. There was one middle aged man in the office and he noted that no lady had worked here in quite a while. Obviously, he was lying to me. He then almost seemed angry when he loaded my truck up with rock, like he really didn't want my business. I went back today to purchase one last load of rock, and was informed by the owner's son that the floor of the office was being re-done and so no business would be carried on that day. Being that I had to drive a long way to get there, it was horribly disruptive. Clearly, the son is not learning good business manners.
