I know that Dr McLain moved on and that Dr. Vaughn retired. I am now being seen by, IMHO, is a less qualified PA. I am not very satisfied with a recent visit. I have a recurring cold sore that resurfaces when I get exposed to strong sunlight or other triggers. I was asked if I wanted to try liquid nitrogen on the sore. I said no. Since then I have gone online and have not seen any advice that freezing the sore is a cure for HSV-1. read more

He has a lot of experience and good "bedside" manners. Dr. Newman is a very thoroughly skilled surgeon to. It is reassuring visit him and to be treated by he and his staff. I was a patient of Dr. Vaughn at Puyallup Dermatology for many years. I selected him based on his expertise with Melanoma because I have had it. When he recently retired, I was placed with a new doctor who lacks Dr. Vaughn's same medical accolades such as participating in studies and active melanoma research work with universities. I called and asked to be placed with the only other doctor in the clinic, Dr. Newman who does have extensive melanoma experience. I was immediately told no but after further discussion the receptionist agreed to send Dr. Newman an email and ask. Two days later I was notified that Dr. Newman declined me as a patient. I was then again given the option of Dr. Meeker, who I was originally placed with or a PA. I declined and told them I would find a new doctor. I am extremely disappointed that as a long time established patient with a history of melanoma, I was not given the opportunity to see the most or equivalently qualified doctor as I had in Dr. Vaughn. I believe that anyone that compares the two doctors left in this practice will quickly realize my concern. While one bio talks about studies, Moes surgery, and writing for medical journals, the other is boasting about being an Eagle Scout and now a scoutmaster. Those are not similar medical bios! While I'm sure Dr. Meeker is a wonderful doctor, I feel my concern and need to advocate for myself was not respected and I was not valued as a loyal patient to the practice. I have opted to transfer to another doctor that has recently left Puyallup Dermatology. In all fairness, the nurses and reception staff has always been wonderful and Dr. Vaughn was outstanding while he was there. That is the only reason why I will still give it 3 stars. read more

Receptionist was childish, unprofessional, and couldn't handle my request to call my wife opposed to her calling them after they made a mistake, took down the wrong phone number and cancelled our appointment scheduled long in advance. Receptionist unfit in a customer service setting and will be the reason this place loses business. Go somewhere that takes pride in their clients. It starts at reception. If you can't get even that right, what kind of service do you expect to receive from the doctors. If I were one of the doctors working there reading these negative reviews primarily involving reception, I'd make a change. read more

Dr McLain ! I've visited this place a few times. I've had acne most of my life and I'm almost 30. I was hoping to maybe find a treatment to help reduce big acne marks. Dr McLain listened to all the things I had tried. Then he explained a range of treatments and how they worked. He didn't just tell me to wash my face (I've tried soo many washes) lol I was completely relieved. So I started the treatment he also explained what options were available if treatment didn't work for me which made me feel so much better . I have no acne now and I've had pretty bad acne for the passed 13 years so this is a big deal!!! I can't say enough how awesome Dr McLain was! I felt like he Listened to me and he cared. I will not be returning to Puyallup Dermatology again. The receptionist were not welcoming at all. I showed up to the counter and the receptionist grabbed the paper I had out of my hand and never said hello or welcomed me or even asked how I was doing. Then was rude because I didn't have a piece of paper signed that they mailed to me but then had a stack of them in her desk. I read reviews about this place before coming back, because I was seen here a couple of times years back but thought I would try it again and it's true about the reviews on how rude the receptionist are. When I was finally seen from the doctor it was very rushed and he didn't give me much information on my skin condition and things that would help. Overall I was not impressed with my visit and will be finding a new dermatology office. I have seen the reply's from this place and how they say if we have any issues contact the office manager and etc. but if they are reading these reviews and see how bad the reviews are and how patients are treated then they should listen and fix the issues if they care so much about their patients. read more

They cancelled an appointment for my son via mail claiming they could not reach my wife. Turns out they took down the wrong phone number. No problem. But when I ask the reason for the cancellation, I'm told the doctor may have gotten called out and may not be in office that day. Ok. This was scheduled long in advance but sure, we'll reschedule. When I provide the correct number and ask them to call my wife, they begin to argue with my about the intent of the letter, saying she should call them, then back peddling saying they would call her. All around rude and very unprofessional. In the end, although I never raised my voice or used vulgar language, I was hung up on. Save your time and money and go elsewhere. I echo the other reviews about the non existent customer service. Having worked as an office manager for a Dermatology practice in San Diego, I was shocked at the unprofessional manner in which they treated me. They don't answer their messages so don't bother leaving one. They don't always answer the phone during business hours either. Paperwork for referrals, pre authorization for meds and/or procedures were delayed or allowed to slip though the cracks. My mother had a biopsy for possible melanoma a week ago. They called on Thursday morning saying they had her results and to please call the office. Meanwhile, she has called 5 times. She has left messages, asked the receptionist to please give the doctor a message and was told she was not able to do that. Now it's Friday night and my mom does NOT have her results and has to wait until Monday to try and get them. As a lymphoma survivor and previous bouts with skin cancer she is obviously anxious to get the all clear! There is no excuse not to get back to her in a timely manner. This was my first time at the clinic, and first time to a dermatologist in years. I have severe adult acne, but that wasn't what brought me in. Made my appointment over the phone for a more emergency kind of visit. I was seen in a good amount of time and actually had appointments available before May. I was super nervous based on the reviews left previous to mine. But let me tell you, the office was clean, quite, and friendly staff. I'm not sure if other people expect to be waited on hand and foot when they enter the door, or maybe they should remove the lodged stick... all of the staff were extremely friendly and I didn't feel like I was rushed at any point. The nurse chatted with me for about 10 minutes and I waited for the doc. He came in, looked at what needed attention, answered ALL my questions and I was on my way. I probably was with the DOCTOR for about 20-30 minutes. I will definitely be back, even if my terrible adult acne clears. Not sure why some are ranting poorly over this medical facility and it's staff. I had an appointment early this morning and was treated very kindly by the front desk staff, not to mention Dr Keith Vaughan was very thorough and very kind along with having a good sense of humor to make one feel at ease. He explains everything and really listens intently to any concerns you may have. I would definitely recommend this facility to anyone who is having any type of skin issues or concerns. As far as the comment that was left, judging a skin doctor as being a pervert, it's pretty irrevelant when common sense tells ya that any skin doctor would need to look at your entire body for any skin abnormalities in order to give one a clean bill of health. I am very pleased with this facility and with my new doctor, Dr Vaughan. He's a keeper! read more

I had the misfortune of being scheduled with Jeffrey Newman, M.D., Ph.D. Despite his credentials, this guy has no more interest in your health than a local bartender. No offence to them intended! My primary care doctor, who is in Olympia, was trying to refer me to someone local to look at some spots on my face that she thought may be cancerous and for a full body inspection. At least, that is the appointment goals I had stipulated when I set the appointment. This guy did concur with my doctor about the spots on my face and he spent less than 3 minutes on my 'exam'! He didn't have me get into a gown but instead, lifted up the back of my long sleeve, V neck T-shirt which he pulled down in front to look at my chest. There was NO inspection of my legs, arms or torso. He did 'burn' spots off of my face and that was that. I drove home thinking do I have skin cancer? My own doctor could have burned the spots off...actually, I felt worse than before I went. I do NOT recommend this clinic at all!! read more

Drove an hour to take my step son to his appointment. They wouldn't see him because he was not my biological child. They wouldn't call his dad of conference him in to the appointment. WE WAITED 3 MONTHS for this appointment. No one told us over the phone that his biological parent needed to be there. They said it was "in their policies".... I had a problem with my Insurance so I called and my insurance gave me the number for them to call so they could resolve the issues and she literally huffed and puffed because I asked her to do her JOB .I have worked in medical offices in California and if I would have done this I would have been fired for not doing my job . So I asked to change my apt so I could call (and do her job for her ) she told me they didn't have any openings until December ( I made the apt for today 4 months ago so now I was going to wait another two months to be seen (which would be fine if I wasn't in there for skin cancer ..!) .
