In our case, with a severe weather warning/storm on the way, if I've booked their care but now can't travel because of the severe/dangerous roads/weather headed in, the $120 for one day is gone (the price for two 1-hour visits where one person lets out four dogs into a fenced yard/plays with them). According to a message conversation with the head of the company (and the site), there are no emergency situations where they'd give a refund, including severe weather, accident, loss of power to the home, illness, death of a close friend or family member, and more. I nicely urged a reconsideration of the current policy with the owner and the creation of a more nuanced emergency cancellation policy but received a short response. (Update: in a later phone call, the owner said they occasionally make exceptions on a case-by-case basis, but severe weather/warnings not to drive on the roads are not accepted reasons for cancellation.) As a business owner myself, I can't be on board with their current policy. If you have multiple pets, beware of the high prices; if you must cancel (for what I would think to be "valid reasons"), you may not receive flexibility. I'd love to see perhaps a partial refund, at least, for "legitimate reasons" and a human-centered approach. I hope they reconsider the strict policy because I do believe "life happens," and balanced policies that benefit both the client and the owner are helpful to all.

They are not only getting good exercise but also are the best behaved they have ever been. In addition to doing amazing work with the dogs (and they love her and look out the window for her in the morning), she is reliable, flexible, and goes above and beyond to help meet our needs and be there whenever we need her support. There is no one better to trust your dogs with - she is one of a kind and we don't know what we would do without her!

Our experience occurred in December 2025 and I needed that time before I wrote my review…read more We were clients of Nickerson for over 20 years and even though the costs of using them were climbing, we stayed loyal. But then Dr Almus sold the business to a company called National Veterinary Associates (NVA). Once they purchased the practice that's when we noticed the cost of getting our pets taken care of started to rise even more and certain services being cut. Yet, we stayed loyal. The last straw so to speak was last December (2025). First off, three different vets misdiagnosed our cat for numerous months. Then, because Nickerson was listed as having a USDA veterinarian and we needed our two cats to have a specific health form filled out for international travel. With everything going on at that time, I was pretty sure that this step was going to be a non issue and these forms needed to be filled out within a certain time frame before traveling internationally. So I call to make the appointment and was advised that the person I had the plans with had been 'let go' and no longer worked there. When I brought up the fact that I needed the forms filled out by Dr. Merle, I was advised that they would call back in a couple of days after their staff meeting with corporate. No one called back, so I did and was advised that they are no longer offering that service. (Mind you, getting two cats this official health report/paperwork is NOT inexpensive.) I immediately requested that they email my records for our two cats to me as soon as possible, which they did. I quickly got online and found that St Joseph Animal Wellness had USDA certified vets and called them. They were amazingly helpful and kind, got our cats in, properly diagnosed our one cat, and they were able to get us our health certificates within the proper timeframe that we needed. My advise for anyone in the southwest Michigan area is support your locally owned veterinarian clinic/health centers for your pets. Vet care for our pets is already getting really costly, no need to line the pocket of some faceless corporation who doesn't really care about your pets or situation.
