I finally decided to give Qdoba a try after hearing soooo much about how great their food is - Tex Mex I believe and not necessarily Mexican. Bottom line - I think their food is OK. It's nothing I'll ever crave or give hype or give props to. I've waited a very long time in long lines and seen employees wipe sweat off their foreheads while preparing food. Urg!! Other than this, the employees have been friendly. I've eaten their food at least three times already, hoping I'd catch the craze wave - still searching... They offer burritos, burrito bowls, quesadillas, cheese/queso dips, etc. The meat offering is good, although I think they lack flavor. I sampled without the fixings and the flavor just isn't there. The beef, in particular, didn't taste like beef to me - so I wouldn't doubt it's the cheap / inexpensive version. The chicken was tender enough, but again, it lacked flavor. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and it was huge. That's a plus, considering they are pricey. I personally think the high price is to pay for the quantity rather than the quality. The highly hyped queso dip was a huge disappointment. Again, it lacked real flavor despite the variety of ingredients and spices floating around. It tasted watered-down to me. I really enjoy Tex-Mex and have tried several restaurants over the years, so in comparison, this one just doesn't measure up for my personal taste. A good note (for an added star) - While waiting for my chicken quesadilla on the grill to finish, I read their United By Flavor manifesto. It's a campaign to declare that their brand is grounded in flavor and their belief that there is more in this world that unites people than divide, along with their constant drive towards innovation. I found the manifesto to be very enlightening, positive, uplifting, and encouraging, especially when I consider our country's current landscape. See the attached photo to read.

I predict this store will be closed by the start of 2023. Place is a mess, service was poor, rap music blaring from the back. Not a good combination.

So, we simply had to stop in. It's interesting to note there's a large sign on the street, but no signage on the actual building. We were seated promptly and drinks were ordered. Chips and salsa were served. Thick, crisp chips and a hearty salsa. Not spicy, but good flavor. My wife ordered a taco salad. A substantial shell, stuffed with rice, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, chicken and topped with cheese and avocado. She brought half of it home. I ordered two flour tacos, one with chicken, one with steak. The tortillas were a bit of a disappointment. They were thick and barely heated. But the tortillas were stuffed. Chicken or beef, lettuce, tomato, and some grilled onions. Tasty. The only "fail" was the side of guacamole. To my taste, it was bland, lacking garlic, lime, any real seasoning. Still, it was a fine lunch. And we'll certainly visit again.

Today is Cinco de Mayo and I was feeling up to a delicious authentic Mexican meal. This restaurant has a variety of various Mexican dishes and albeit is rather pricey for their platters, which range from $19-$29 and appetizers from $8-$22. Also surprisingly I didn't find any sort of dessert at all unless there is a separate menu for that but I was never told that by my server, more on that later. The environment is one you'd expect of any authentic Mexican restaurant, a very colorful decor with lots of Mexican decor spread throughout with some Mexican music playing in the background to set the ambiance of this establishment granted I was sitting in the background of the seating area and couldn't hear this music if I were sitting in the front. On this visit, being my first, I decided to try the Nachos Delicias (Queso, tomato, onions, cilantro, sour cream and choice of chicken, chorizo and steak) I requested no onions and steak. I also tried their Quesadilla El Jefe Jeff (Stuffed with cheese, steak, shrimp, chicken, chorizo, bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, cilantro and sour cream) I requested no onions. The nachos were really nothing too terribly special outside of just being put in a somewhat fancy bowl to make them look or appear better than they were. They didn't taste too bad outside of finding the steak to not really be all that flavorful or seasoned. I feel for the price which was $18.50, that it could've been more for what I paid for. The quesadilla was absolutely worth it and was quite filling. Definitely the star of this meal however I was disappointed to find onion in my meal when I specifically requested there to not be. Outside of that is was quite good and something I'd order again. My biggest issue was there was only one server working and of all days it was on Cinco de Mayo which you as a Mexican restaurant should expect to be busy in which they were. Our server never once stopped to ask if we needed anything, no offer of dessert (which I am still not sure they offer) or even to ask if I wanted another drink. I don't see myself going out of my way to come here albeit it wasn't awful but the price for things was too much in my opinion. I feel that I've had better food for a lower price at other authentic Mexican restaurants. So just keep this in mind when deciding to stop here.

I wish I could join the chorus of 4 and 5 star reviews. Looking for a restaurant with atmosphere?…read more You won't find it here. My first warning was the decrepit sign over the door in a dilapidated strip center. But, as the saying goes, "don't judge a book by its cover." The food was good. Not great. My usual order is fajitas, this time a chicken, steak, and chicken combo. The plate was served sizzling. Served with 3 small tortillas and the usual fixin's. El Mexicano doesn't serve any beans other than refried, so, no option for black beans, pinto or borracho. The shrimp in the dish were perfect, the chicken was dried out and there were about 6 little strips of steak. The grilled onions and peppers were very good. My wife's shrimp dish was very salty. She prefers the interpretation of Shrimp Mexicana at others Mexican restaurants. And for good measure, because we asked for some lime to squeeze on the shrimp and they tacked on $2 to the bill. But what really resulted in my barely average review was the cleanliness of El Mexicano; or rather, the lack of it. You'll notice a yellow bucket that hangs on the wall in the dining room, yes, in full sight of diners. I witnessed a server drop something on the floor, grab a cloth from the bucket and clean the floor. Then, she returned the cleaning cloth to the bucket. Moments later, another server used the same cloth to clean tables! The health department would have a hissy fit if they saw this. Worse, when I mentioned this to the manager, he was indifferent. I know he understood me, he just didn't care. If the manager is so indifferent to such an obvious health hazard, I can't fathom what goes on in the kitchen. El Mexicano is a "one and done" for us.

The decor was fun with painted murals and designs covering every surface. I especially liked all the "climbing men" stationed around at various places. It was plenty of food for the two of us and Eveything was delicious. We left just enough room for the huge piece of Chocolate Cake, $14. We ate the bottom two tiers and took the rest home. Yum. Kyondre (Dre) was our server. What a delightful young man. He was very helpful and pleasant, while checking in on us frequently. IMHO, Agave & Rye is well worth a visit.

But I felt La Lupita had slipped a bit. Initial service was excellent, we were greeted and seated promptly. Drinks were served and our order was taken. But once the food was brought to the table, our server was nowhere to be found. Refill for ice tea? Nope. We ordered one set of corn and one set of flour tortillas and got two orders of corn. It took us quite a while to find the server to get the error corrected. The complementary chips and salsa were way off. The chips were stale and they switched to a green salsa. Admittedly, a personal preference, but I liked the red better. My wife enjoyed her usual- camarones Mexicano. Served sizzling and perfectly done. I don't recall the mixed fajitas (my usual) as being so greasy. Again, served hot. Lots of peppers, onions, & grilled tomatoes. No jalapeños. I could have asked for some as a side and I'm sure they would accommodate. I also found it odd that La Lupita doesn't offer any beans other than refried. We asked for black beans or pinto or borracho. They're not offered. Yet they were able to serve refried black beans instead of the usual borracho or pinto refried version. Prices, inevitably, were up since our last visit. La Lupita is still a favorite for authentic Mexican food. We just caught them on an off day and it was still way ahead of most Mexican restaurants.
