Add Pik Thai to the list, especially with their cozy dining room and large patio, located in Toronto's Roncesvalles Village neighbourhood. Our meal started, with their delicious Laab Moo, huge Cocktail Shrimps, and their Signature Chicken Satay skewers. Great start! That was soon followed by their Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken, Pad See Ew with Pork Belly, Khao Soi with Fish, and Phanang Curry with Chicken. Every dish was perfectly prepared, attractively presented, and very tasty. Every bite was a treat! The Khao Soi with Fish, however, stood out as our favourite. It checked all the boxes - presentation, texture, and flavour. Great dish! For dessert and beverages, we had a very delicious and attractive Chocolate Mousse Cake, and Mango Sticky Rice. The mousse cake was not what I expected from a Thai restaurant but it was really good! Their Thai Iced Tea, Thai Green Tea, and Mango Slush really hit the spot - very refreshing. The owners, Monica and Tass, are friendly and welcoming. making you feel at home. This is a good spot, worth exploring! Chef Ko is the best, making you feel so welcomed and appreciated, as if in her own home. Her food and hospitality are nothing short of outstanding! I recently had the pleasure of introducing some foodie friends to Chef Ko and it didn't take them long to discover they were in for a very special evening with a very special person, not just a Chef. The first course was an appetizer platter that included Calamari, Chicken Satay, Papaya Salad, Shrimp Chips, Chef Ko's amazing Golden Bags, and more. Great start! Our amazing meal continued with Panang Fish, Pineapple Fried Rice with Shrimp, a Sizzling Seafood platter, Pad Thai with Soft Shell Crab, Pad See Ew with Shrimps, and Deep Fried Fish with Mango Salad. It was all absolutely delicious, with the Pad Thai and Deep Fried Fish, being my personal favourites. Diets and self control went out the door as we finished every morsel before being surprised by dessert. We had Thai Pudding made with Coconut Blossom Sugar, and Thai Pancakes. These were light and tasty. Great finish! Not to be forgotten, however, we had some great beverages with unique presentations - Tom Yum Spiced Margarita, Buri Ram, and Bangkok Lychee Fizz. My wife, herself Thai, and I had the distinct privilege of dining under the personal care of Chef Ko--an experience that transcended mere gastronomy. What distinguishes this establishment is not simply technique, but soul. Chef Ko presides over her kitchen with the gentle authority of one who understands that cooking is an act of generosity. Each dish arrives as an invitation to her homeland, carrying the unmistakable signatures of Eastern Thailand's culinary traditions--bold, unapologetic, and deeply nourishing. The authenticity here is not performative; it is inherent. One senses immediately that Chef Ko is not merely reproducing recipes but channelling a cultural inheritance. The warmth of Thai hospitality--that ineffable quality of making guests feel genuinely cared for--permeates every aspect of the experience, from the thoughtful pacing of courses to the evident pride with which each plate is presented. For those seeking a polished, homogenized version of Thai cuisine, look elsewhere. Isaan Der offers something far more valuable: an honest expression of regional tradition, shepherded by a chef whose personal connection to her craft is both evident and affecting. In preserving this culinary heritage on Canadian soil, Chef Ko offers not just a meal, but a meaningful cultural bridge.

Eating with our eyes and mouths for a fraction the price that we'd expected to pay--! The khao soi and fried chicken wings were both perfect. The restaurant is on the smaller side and seats do start filling up around dinner time, but they take reservations. We went on a whim and since we arrived right before the dinner rush, we were able to grab a table. Do note that some of their menu varies from location to location. We started with the drinks. Both were non-alcoholic. The Thai Iced Tea was strong in the tea flavor (in a good way) and not too sweet. The it takes two to Mango drink was so unique. I would never imagine mixing mango with an espresso shot but they surprisingly went well together. I imagine a coffee liqueur version would taste great too! The spicy tuna tataki was perfectly seared. No fishy taste or smell and had a great texture. The green cause was so refreshing and flavorful with a little heat. (We end up using this as a dip with our lobster pineapple fried rice later too, lol) The pad see ew was sooo good! The noodles were chewy and bouncy, the beef was super tender and soft and didn't taste greasy. Now the lobster pineapple fried rice. This was some of the best fried rice I've ever eaten in my life. The rice was light, fluffy, and packed with flavor, the prawns were massive, the pineapple chunks were perfectly grilled and sweet, and you get a perfectly cooked whole lobster sitting on top of it all. The fact that this dish is just $38 is actually such a steal! Ending it all with the tiramisu was the perfect cherry on top. The tea-rimisu was literally the drink in cake form. Perfect flavor, light and fluffy, and you still taste all the different layers. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ate and look forward to checking out their other locations!

If they're only serving two dishes, you think, they must both be absolutely incredible. And you'd be right. We arrived at Thai Nyyom shortly after it opened on a recent Saturday and snagged one of the few tables. I knew going in that I wanted to try their spin on Khao Soi (with chicken), so that's exactly what I ordered. It's incredible. It's got all the flavor and complexity that you'd expect from the iconic dish, but everything's been elevated considerably. All the components work really well together, and I appreciated that the broth wasn't as thick as it can sometimes be. (The most excellent chili oil on the table kicked the whole thing up considerably.) I'll definitely have to return sometime to check out their other menu mainstay, Chicken Rice, but it'll be very difficult to resist that Khao Soi.

Dare I say, this might be some of the best Thai food that downtown Toronto has to offer. Thai Nyyom is small. It's small in size with about 5 tables in the restaurant, which can make it kind of tricky if you're planning to visit with a larger party. It's also small in scope, with only 2 mainstay menu items with an additional Chef's Special. However, Thai Nyyom is NOT small in flavour and taste. I had the Chicken Rice and had a bite of my partner's Chicken Khao Soi. Hainanese Chicken Rice is a deceptively simple dish that's really easy to get wrong. Thai Nyyom's offering was excellent, with juicy, flavourful chicken that came with a side of delicious broth. Being not the biggest fan of spice, the Khao Soi was too intense for me but my partner loved it. She said that it was some of the best Khao Soi she's ever had. I definitely plan to come back the next time I find myself in the neighbourhood to try the Chef's Special. And maybe a side of the Chicken Wings as well. And maybe some Thai Iced Tea while I'm at it.

It was full of flavor with a mix of great textures. Sam had the green curry with chicken and ordered rice on the side. The rice was definitely needed as it added more texture to the extremely smooth and creamy soup. There was a nice amount of chicken and veggies, too. The Thai milk tea was made to perfection here.
