Have been coming here for the past several years and was surprised I have failed to review it. Quaker diner is tucked nicely at the end of the row of stores on Rising Sun Ave just south of Cottman. They have street parking and a good sized parking lot. Inside you will find bar seating as well as two dining rooms with a traditional diner feel. Weekends offer a good choice of specials all created to tempt the palate. Stuffed French toasts. Cheesecake stuffed pancakes and so much more. This is a diner, the rest of the menu is extensive with all the offerings one would expect. The service is what shines here at Quaker diner. Family owned and operated with the rest of the staff all working like one big family. Everyone makes you feel welcome, fills your belly and never makes you feel like a burden. We have yet to have a bad meal here and it is on our rotation of go to breakfast places. read more

The quality of the food was not very good in spite of it being very visually appealing. Both my wife and I commented that in spite of the variety of interesting sounding ingredients in both of our dishes, the food was practically tasteless. Also, they didn't get my wife's order correct. She specifically told the waitress no peppers in her food because they bother her. Instead the waitress apparently told the chef no green peppers so she got a bunch of red ones instead :-) then we will end up having to switch meals so she can eat mine that didn't have peppers in it and for all the aggravation they gave us complimentary coffee which was pretty much slightly tan lukewarm water masquerading as coffee. This is a cute place with classic dining-car charm. Very clean inside, warm and cozy, with comfortable seating and a true old-school diner atmosphere. Service from Grace was excellent... friendly, fast, and attentive. Big menu, good coffee, and fair prices. I had the Greek omelet, which was very good and a generous portion. The only downside was the pancakes. They were tough, leathery, and pretty tasteless, like a cheap mix. Disappointing compared to the rest of the meal. Make sure you visit Quaker Diner on Friday. They bake Pastries Thursday evenings and sell them until they run out. Low key one of the best bakeries in the city. The food is quick and a delicious. Got a bacon egg and cheese on kaiser and homefries for breakfast. The home fries here are amazing. The waitresses are always kind and helpful. It's very much a diner. My friend came to visit me from Rochester NY. She took me to lunch for my birthday, I choose to go to Quaker Diner which is one of my favorite places to eat and I had not been there for a while. First off, the servers who work here are great! My family and I were there for a quick dinner last night - my husband ordered the meatloaf and my sister, and I each ordered the chicken croquettes. Sad to say, we had to send the croquettes back because they were very obviously freezer burned, which gave them an awful taste. I explained to our server, who was very apologetic (certainly not her fault) and she offered to get us a new order. Well, we waited about 25 mins for another order and when they came out, one order was way overdone and the other looked like it hadn't been cooked enough! We just requested boxes to take them home, as we no longer had time to sit there and eat. The server was nice enough to take our drinks off of the check, being unable to take the food off. I just had the best meal of 2022 at the Quaker Diner. I realize it is early yet in the new year, but high commendation is warranted right now! This stainless train car classic served up a terrific breakfast as I sat at one of their shiny spinners at the counter overlooking their Cecilware coffee maker and the twin swinging kitchen doors. The staff seems to have been their since the millennium, and they know their stuff, complete with old school personalities ("Know what you want , Hun?") Their morning menu is extensive, and I chose between a three egg omelet and a "skillet." The later (Olivia) arrived on a ceramic long handle flat bottom platter, overloaded with eggs, onions pepper, homemade corned beef hash, home fries and melted cheddar, with rye toast accompaniment. First forkful and I was smitten. It was absolutely delicious. The combination of taste and texture overwhelmed me as I tried to capture all the impulses my brain was getting from my tongue. Savory, chunky, soft, crisp, cheesy and a few more sensory reports that escape my store of adjectives. It was great, with the rye toast adding an appropriate exclamation point! The coffee was another welcome blast from the past, as it was brewed in an ancient Cecilware FE 100, which can't be found for purchase anywhere but in those old industrial kitchen supply warehouses. They may be very 20th Century, but nothing since has perked better Java. This institution located between Oxford and Rising Sun Avenues, is well worth the drive to this corner of the Greater Northeast in Philly. Parking around back and alongside the structure. This is my second visit to this restaurant the first time I had a grilled cheese which was ok you can't mess that up On my second visit I had cream of crab which was filled with imitation crab meat which I can't eat and it was never mentioned so I sent that back and my main course was a tuna club which was totally gritty and taste nothing like tuna, you could tell by my plate that I didn't eat a bit but I tasted a piece of tuna that fell off to the side and it was very dry, gritty and u seasoned. My friend had a tuna melt and didn't like hers either asked to have it removed from the bill that waitress knew that we were talking and didn't eat right away so the cook said we child have spoke immediately after we were served. I am happy to report that, although I am a few years behind on this, the major renovation and updating of Quaker Diner is quite amazing. I visited there once before many years ago, and I did not enjoy my experience. The details why I was unhappy are irrelevant - because after going back recently after they completely changed the entire diner inside, outside and on the menu, has made me forget all about that. Complete kudos to those running this great little neighborhood diner. It was clean, everyone was friendly, the service was quick, the coffee was hot, and it had a stacked menu filled with all standard diner food, but with many variations on those standards, which made them stand out. I very much enjoyed my spicy omelette. While I personally am not a regular there, I noticed that just about every other booth around me, the customers were on a first name basis with the staff - which to me suggests that there's enough of a reason to keep returning here. I ordered pickup, drove all the way home realized they didn't put all the vegetables that the menu says only had about half the vegetables in it, (peppers, onions broccoli) (no tomatoes no spinach no mushrooms) If I'm paying $17 I want everything it's supposed to come with. I called asking for them to tell me what's supposed to be in the skillet, and I explained that it was missing a lot of vegetables, they say they would let the kitchen know, assuming they're going to make it again. I drive all the way back, the woman at the register takes the old food in the back and comes out with the new order, no compensation or anything for my time wasted driving back and forth for a messed up order, I'm assuming the trashed the other one, when they should've just let me keep it. read more

Stopped in this morning for breakfast!! There is many spots to park in the Diners parking lot. When I walked in i was surprised by how nice this Diner looks. Can tell it had been remodeled. And looks great and alot of room. Was seated very quickly and given a menu. It's pretty good size menu with many breakfast options to choose from and good prizes.. I wound up ordering the French toast and bacon. It was definitely good. French toast just done right, the bacon crispy just the way I like it. Coffee was pipeing hot. The service was spot on always quick to the table for coffee refills and anything I needed. I'm glad to find this Diner on Yelp and look forward to coming back in the near future for breakfast or even Dinner. You can tell while sitting down that many regulars coming to the diner often for there morning breakfast. Many seem to know each other well. I've been here a couple of times for lunch so far. The pros: 1. Super close to my work 2. parking lot off of Rising Sun Ave so no hunting for coins for the meter 3. Good sandwiches and French fries 4. Very inexpensive (my friend got a gyro platter which came with soup, fries, and a desert for I think $7.50) The Cons: 1. Both times I've tried their soups (they come with most lunch combos) they were not great. The chicken noodle needed salt and seasoning and the French onion might hve been the worst French Onion soup I've had (too many types of cheeses, including American (why???) and the crouton was rye, which was just overpowering. 2. Service can be a little slow. So far the buffalo chicken wrap, the fresh cut fries, and the paninis have been good. I will likely be back, but just not for soup. read more

My first trial was take out and it was perfect. Even eaten 15 minutes later. So me and the wife headed over for a Friday early dinner. First impressions walking in were shocking. Loved the chrome and shiny diner decor. Clean everywhere which is something I adore. Friendly staff told us to set where we like. I really love the choice to pick my sit, not sure why but I really appreciate it. I ordered the chopped sirloin with wedges and both were perfect. Great grilled onions adorned the broiled meat juicy and flavorful topped with homemade gravy set this meal right. Potatoes crispy just how I like it. Wife had the chicken and shared a piece with me, cause she cares. Crispy to perfection and moist inside. Fries are good as well. Clucking good chicken. Dinners came with soup or salad bar and choice of homemade dessert. Lots to chose from but we both wanted the chocolate cake and it did not disappoint. I had the cheesecake before and creamy and light and oh so fucking good. Burgers here are also fantastic. I talked with the owner/chef and everything is made from scratch and you can tell. This is my new go to, next visit trying some breakfast vittles. UPDATE (11/23/17): Stopped by Thanksgiving morning for a quick breakfast. TL;DR: service was ok, people were nice, menu too big, food was horrible. Honestly, I went to try out the food. I see the sign when I go to work and I met the owner who said they have good biscuits. Well, as a southern gal who loves diner food and has eaten easily 1000 biscuits I decided to try it out. First off, there is 320 items on the menu, excluding optional additions and drinks, and some items you could get ARENT ON THE MENU (for instance chocolate chip pancakes). So, the service was ok it was pretty busy so I'm not gonna harp on that. Onto the food. To start I got chocolate chip pancakes, French fries, and a biscuit. I ordered bacon but they forgot to ring it in and they didn't have chicken tenders. Biscuit, burnt on the outside soft nice inside. You could maybe salvage hunks but then its not a biscuit! French fries: ok at first, a bit soft and mushy, but then over a short period of time it just kept getting worse and worse to the point by the end of the meal it was like eating a light fry coated mashed potato's. The flavor was lacking too it needed some seasoning, like salt or pepper. And the pancakes. Absolutely flavorless. The butter didn't help either, the chocolate chips helped but I want to taste something! To top it off, the texture was bad. The outside layers were crunchy, the inside was sparse, airy and empty. I so wanted to like this little diner! The server was so nice and was very attentive to my family. Unfortunately, the food left much to be desired. The onion rings were TERRIBLE. I've never tasted an onion ring that literally tasted like nothing...I mean crispy nothing. Then the burger someone in my group ordered was requested medium rare and it came out burnt and flavorless. The quaker diner is a neighborhood miracle. In a booth or by delivery- due to the Coronapocalypse- the food is ALWAYS AMAZING. Every time I've eaten there. Huge portions- I've never eaten it all, I always have some for breakfast or lunch the next day. And I can clean a plate. The staff are amazing, polite and welcoming when on site, and their delivery is always fast. Ode to Quaker Diner. A Haiku. easy greasy food want death when old lady speaks Paul best waiter here It is what it is folks. A greasy spoon on a dirty street. The food can be hit or miss, but has been all hit in the last two months. Admittedly I tend to get the same few things (omelets, eggs over medium w/ pork roll, grits, home fries...) but did enjoy a good club sandwich once. The staff show no problem airing their dirty laundry and the oldest waitress there has uttered some of the funniest in an old school racist "Archy bunker" ignorant shit I've ever heard. Spit my coffee once, and I love every drop. It's a solid choice when I don't feel like cooking breakfast for myself. Staff picked up quick on my idiosyncrasies and give me perfect service every time. Paul is my guy, he covers all the bases whether it's just you in his section or he's slammed. Don't expect greatness folks, but don't count it out either... I haven't been here in 5 years because I live in Seattle now, but I still remember their chicken parm sandwich. It's huge-- I used to eat half and save the rest for another meal. The french fries are battered! Club sandwiches were pretty good too. I used to come often on Sundays. Staff wears their Eagles gear on Sundays so it feels joyous and hopeful in there-- everyone's in a good mood.
