Locals on their walks on a Saturday morning with their strollers and dogs. Young, local kids as waiters which is a nice touch. Breakfast sandwich is ok. Similar to something that I could do at home so I guess it's home style cooking. Buddy got the biscuits and gravy and said the biscuits were doughy. Another great little downtown diner with an absolutely wonderful staff! I am such a sucker for a neighbourhood feel good diner. I was treated like one of their regulars. So, be prepared to be part of the family when dining there. They have a breakfast bar, outdoor seating and inside booths. It's just down from the Keswick Theatre. Somewhat of a disappointing first visit to the Village Diner this Father's Day. It seemed as though the young staff had difficulty with turning tables. People would get up and pay, and took quite some time before any of the staff that we're just standing around, took the time to clear the table and prep it for the next party ((who were all waiting to be seated - we were second in line with many after us)). It was well over a half an hour to be seated when we were quoted 5 to 10 minutes and three tables up and left with their table sitting uncleared as we all waited patiently in the rain. Our food was decent, but served cold, but at that point, we really just wanted to satisfy our hunger and get on with celebrating the main man of the day. We chalked it up to a busy holiday so I didn't want to rush online to write a substandard review without giving them another chance. So, we came back again during the week to give it a fair assessment. We sampled the breakfast sandwiches that were on their specials that include coffee/tea. The verdict... basic. Our waitress today was super lively and eager to serve. With a pep in her step we wished she had been here to rally the troops on Sunday. Our drinks were brought out quickly and our sandwiches.... were... sandwiches I'd like to say more, but there's not much to say. The Village Diner definitely did not live up to what I expected from a Keswick village restaurant. It could definitely benefit from a deep, thorough cleaning as the windows looked as though it has been a long time since they were cleaned. The windowsills peeling and an overall state of age and neglect throughout the small cramped diner. Homey neighborhood diner has its own charm - check out some of the decorative 'art work' on the walls for a chuckle. The staff seems to skew much younger during weekends, but no difference - the service is always attentive and friendly. We love that they give you a carafe of coffee so you can refill at your own pace. The food has always been great the half dozen or so times we've been there, and the crispy home fries we had today (maybe it's a Sunday special as we'd never had them during the week), but regardless, they're a hidden gem. read more

We were in the area for a Christmas event. The rooster was booked so we decided on the diner across the street. The vibe was small quaint old school 80-90s diner. It reminded me of saved by the bell. Cute. The neighborhood is also very cute with many other eats and shops. We were lucky to go on a Sunday so didn't have to pay the meter parking . We did wait a long while for food to come out but there were a bunch of families close to us so our boys could be themselves while they waited and that was nice . Decided to come here for breakfast today since my boyfriend and I both had the day off. What a cute place! Our waitress was wonderful! Hot coffee came right to our table after we ordered it! I had the village sampler: eggs, toast, home fries, pancakes or French toast and bacon and sausage. Yes, my eyes were bigger then my stomach which I learned half way though my meal! Used to be a regular here when I worked from home because I live right down the street, but after this past visit, its likely to be my last. I expected the wait on a Sunday around noon, so no surprise there, but what first ticked me off is that people who came in after me got seated, ate, and left before me and they were just walk-in's like me. Finally I get seated and another 15 minutes pass until my waitress finally takes my beverage order. Wait another 15 minutes just to get a glass of water and tomato juice and to put in my order. I asked for the soup specials, and go figure the waitress disappears for another 15-20 minutes before letting me know. At this point, shes practically ignoring all her tables and all the customers are looking at each other thinking "would it be faster to go up to the counter and order?" So I finally get my food after 45 mins or so and go figure its luke warm, they gave me american instead of provolone cheese like I ordered, and she forgot my side of sauce. I would have asked for another water but good lord, who has time for that at this point. The only thing she was quick at bringing me was my check (surprise there!). Rarely do I write a review for a place that I have visited. My thoughts, when given, come word of mouth. However, after an experience a friend and I had at this location, I would be remiss if I didn't let people looking to visit this establishment know. Locale: Sitting near the corner of N Easton Rd and Keswick Ave, the Village Diner is a lovely space to take a bite to eat outdoors. There is street parking, and I was lucky enough to park at a broken meter (Free parking). It is also a stone's throw away from the Keswick theater. Ambiance: As it was a beautiful Friday morning, I chose the outdoor seating. Seating consists of appx 8-10 tables for 2-4 people along the walkway of the sidewalk. An awning kept the bright sun out of patrons' faces while they ate. The only time I saw the interior was when we arrived and waited for the hostess to be seated outside. (The wait for a hostess was about 4-5 minutes...not because they were overwhelmed with work). I also didn't use the bathroom here, so no thoughts on the commode. Food: Once my companion and I were seated, we chose a four-seat table to have space for the food as the 2-person tables are small-ish. I ordered a bacon/mushroom omelet with home fries and orange juice, and she ordered a veggie omelet. The food was...ok. My omelet was a little runny, and their home fries amounted to some frozen potatoes on the grill with lightly cooked onions and peppers thrown on top of them. I was hungry, but finishing the food took me a while. It wasn't a "savor every bite" kind of meal...more of a "drink OJ with each bite" meal. My companion also had an omelet, but I don't remember if she finished her food. The orange juice wasn't "fresh squeezed," but it was good. Service - Our waitress (I'm sorry I forgot her name) was a blond/brown-haired woman in her late 30's early 40's. She was phenomenal. She regularly checked in on us as we ate and talked, and we shared a laugh or three. Again, Phenomenal. What was NOT phenomenal was the (Manager?), a short, portly woman with black hair. Unbeknownst to us, there is a one-hour seating "policy" that the establishment adheres to. My companion and I were told, both loudly and rudely by the manager, that "YOU TWO HAVE BEEN HERE LONG ENOUGH. WE HAVE A ONE-HOUR SEATING POLICY, SO YOU TWO HAVE TO GET UP BECAUSE WE ARE SEATING A PARTY OF 5!!!" We weren't embarrassed, even though it "seemed" as if that was her goal. My entire career has been in the service of others, be it in Customer Service for a major Pharmaceutical company or my current role, where I manage an Outreach Team for PECO. The manager's customer "service" was a masterclass in how NOT to treat a customer. I informed her that it was rude and unnecessary and that our waitress could have and should have conveyed the information. Her outburst, done within earshot of at least ten other patrons, has ensured that I will never revisit this establishment. Did I mention we were the only non-white patrons there? I'm not saying that race was a factor, but it seemed very unnecessary, in poor taste, and downright crass how the manager (if she WAS the manager) handled that situation. Our waitress came over and apologized profusely and let us know that it wasn't the intent of the overly loud portly woman to offend. I believe that the waitress knew EXACTLY what she was doing. Nevertheless, I paid for our food, left a tip for our waitress, and left...and won't be returning. TLDR: Ambiance- 8/10 Food - 5/10 Service (Waitress) 9/10 Service (Manager) 0/10 Overall - 55% / 100% Correction: (Her actual words were, "All right you two, I need to ask you to LEAVE." My mom got a breakfast sandwich which she enjoyed. Our waitress was amazing and attentive. She was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Food to ALWAYS order: My fiance and I ordered the breakfast sampler that brought pancakes, eggs, sausage, crispy potatoes, bacon, and toast...aka a meal for 4 for like $10 measely bucks. Yes we had food left over. The pancakes are nice and fluffy and delicious...and I'm not much of a pancake lover. And then there were the homefries. They were crisy potato slices, smothered in oozing cheese, topped with meaty bacon and garnished with fresh scallions. Yes, clean the saliva off your chin. OCR Pancakes were permanently removed from the menu. The hasbrowns that my wife loved are only intermittently available. What's the point of coming? Breakfast platters really aren't that special. My fiancé and I come here on the regular and we want to love this place. Close to home, only diner around town, but the food is always cold. We've sat at the counter and have watched food sit there for up to 10 minutes so it makes sense but it's getting a bit annoying. We love the Village Diner! We are really lucky to have so many great breakfast places in this area and this is definitely one of them. We have eaten here several times. Would eat here more often but it's a small diner and it gets crowded, especially on the weekend. It's worth the wait though. I think they have extended their hours to serve dinner on Fridays. Pretty good food and service. It can get PACKED though especially on weekends. I recommend going by 9 am on weekends if possible. They have good early bird specials too. Parking can be tricky but there is a free lot behind the diner by the old school building. There's also meter parking and street parking in the vicinity. Their waffles are always good!! read more

I went for breakfast Saturday morning arrived around 8 am and couldn't be sit until 45 minutes later, it pissed me off a little bit that the service was slow but I also understood that the place it was small and there were a lot of people in line ahead of me. It was easy to find parking, as a matter of fact my fiancé and I parked right in front of the diner. The food it was okay, nothing different than any other diner. The place environment was good tho there were only so many tables for everyone. In my opinion is very important for a diner to be fast to keep moving so the wait is not long and the food must be fresh, however I think I would give a second chance soon to this place. read more

I won't ever go back. I'll tell you why. First of all, the place is so small, my family had to wait for 45 minutes or more with only one other family in line after us for a late Sunday breakfast. This was even more frustrating on top of being insanely hungry because we watched how slow the minimal staff was getting food out. Secondly, as I looked around during my wait, I couldn't help notice how DIRTY the place looked. I'm talking unswept, unmopped, trash overflowingly full in the bathroom...and again...it's a tiny place. Really, there isn't anyone who can clean up the place? If there hadn't been any soap in the restroom I probably would have left. The food coming out at least looked decent, so we decided to stay and try it anyway. Once we were at a table, I frowned at my coffee cup. There was a blatant coffee ring around the inside, clearly not properly washed or looked into. Hey, my dishwasher sucks too, but at least I pick up a sponge every now and then. I requested another. The kids had grilled cheese sandwiches, I had the cream chipped beef. I found the gravy to be more like soup....yech...it tasted alright after some salt & pepper, but I'll stick with Mayfair Diner for that dish in the future. My husband had an omelette, but they made the wrong kind. Usually he would just eat it, but he really didn't want bell peppers that morning so he had to send it back. If you do decide to go (my cousin liked it and sent me there in the first place, so it does suit some folks) all I can say is just don't get the creamy chipped beef (soup on a plate). read more

Went in today and asked to get food to go and was rudely told they where only open till one, when there sign and there website clearly states they are open till two on Sundays. Today, I came to The Village Diner, and let me just say that I am truly disappointed in the customer service. I have visited a few times and the time I have gone, it truly has been a pleasant experience with the older staff. I don't know what was up with the staff today, but I noticed that it was a younger staff. My friend and I came in and no one said good morning, hello, or even acknowledged that we had come in. We waited a good 15-20 minutes as people were walking out. My friend went up to one of the workers and asked, "How much longer do we have to wait?" One girl whispered they had tables available. I am truly disappointed in the service, behaviors, and attitudes displayed today. So, we left, and gladly gave our business to another restaurant where we were welcomed and sat right away. This is a wonderful no frills diner located in the adorable heart of Glenside. It fits right in with the "main street" feel of the neighborhood and it's right next door to the Keswick. The food won't blow your mind (my boyfriend LOVES the potatoes but I think they're just alright) but it'll satisfy on the cheap. They usually bring you your own little pot of coffee for the table so you can refill at your leisure. Prices are low. The joint has a nice counter and some old style booths that give the place a retro feel. The walls are a bit empty, though. Staff is friendly. No minimum on cards that I know of, too! read more
