I went to local Jiffy Lube franchises for oil changes at around 67k and 74k miles. Both times they…read moretold me I was supposed to have had my transmission fluid changed at 60k miles and that it was very dirty -- implying that it looks like it wasn't done and I should definitely get it done. I had my 60k mile service done at the dealership, so the transmission fluid should have been changed then so I was suspicious, of course. Friends of mine know the owner of Joey's so I figured I'd try it out. I set up my service appointment for an oil change, explained my concern regarding the transmission fluid, also expressed some concern regarding my timing belt. He looked at both during the appointment and told me that the fluid definitely wasn't dirty enough to worry about changing yet; my timing belt looked fine and based on the mileage was early for a change anyway. He recommended that the next time I get my oil changed -- if I went to a different garage -- I ask them to look at the rear brakes. They were still okay but were getting low so in the future I'd want to keep an eye on their levels. I really appreciated the honesty regarding the fluid, and the heads-up regarding the brakes. Joey's is out of the way for me, but I'll be giving him my business in the future.

While waiting for them to correct their incompetence the guy comes in and gives me $40 and apologized for the inconvenience. I get in the car to leave and the inside of the driver's side door is soaking wet because they left it open in the rain. They were very nice, but couldn't even see us till the next day to evaluate it and even then it would probably have taken a few days before they could fit us in. They are very nice and do good work, but they're always so busy. Just hard in an emergency. My wife gave Whalen's a call next. I think they had really helped us out by fixing a nail in the tire the same day, a couple of years ago. She took the car to Whalen's mid afternoon on Thursday and by about noon on Friday it was fixed! It wasn't cheap, but it got done and much faster than we could've hoped for. They are family owned now third generation owned. We really like this place and highly recommend them.
