Great place, great price- a bargain Hotel that offers basic needs if you're not picky. As you enter the lobby to check in, the place seemed clean and amidst the COVID-19 new policies, this hotel seemed to be complying to all the new policies which I really appreciate. However, I was met with overwhelming smell of stale cigarette smoke smell. I made a comment to the front desk clerk about it, but he mentioned the smell is coming from the outside. The front desk clerk seemed accommodating and checking in was a breeze. This place is nothing fancy and it's conveniently located near downtown Holland, Michigan- only a 7 minutes drive with minimal traffic. So far, I'm happy with the accommodations 8 just with it's not smelling so much like stale cigarette smoke inside the building. Regardless where you I go, I can smell old cigarette smoke even our room that was supposed to be smoke free. This hotel is also conveniently located off the highway: I196 which makes it very easy to travel. The room was clean, bathroom was clean, and everything works- shower pressure was pretty good, there's mini fridge, microwave and tv with cable provided. Overall, I would rate the place 4, but because of the smoky smell, I have to know a point down to 3/5. Yes, I will recommend this place if you're on a budget like me and does not want to pay a lot of money for accommodations, but prefers to spend money elsewhere.

Fast forward two trips later we're big fans. The property is well maintained, the staff are friendly, other guests have been welcoming and respectful, and there is so much to do. Holland State Park is great but this year (2018) Tunnel Park was the hit. We have 4 kiddos entertainment is important. I highly recommend a stay here.

First, the location is awesome. Across the street from a Lake Macatawa access (our balcony had a lake view) and down the street from the Holland State Park Lake Michigan Beach (perfect to watch the sun set). We also hiked Mt. Pisgah a couple of days (just down the street too). We stayed in the Newport (sleeps 8, 4 in beds, 4 in sofa beds). We loved the unit from the decor to the multi level layout and fully stocked kitchen. If someone in your party has trouble with stairs I might pick a unit that has an additional first floor kitchen/bar. There is a jet tub in the master bath and a private patio with a grill off the back of the first floor bedroom. There is also an outdoor grill with patio table seating right off the pool deck for entertaining. The salt water pool and hot tub (mostly the hot tub) was my fav, especially after climbing all those stairs at Mt Pisgah. 8 minutes to downtown Holland and 20 minutes to Saugatuck. Just down the street was a kayak and paddle board rental place. Additionally you get privileges at the Macatawa Golf Club which was very nice. It was worth every penny and we hope to go back again!

Pretty solid place to stay! I'd say more like 3.5 stars. Great breakfast (the pepper frittatas and…read morewaffles were excellent!) and very clean hotel. Main issue we ran into was we thought for a 2-night stay our room would be cleaned throughout the day, but apparently you have to request if you want it cleaned. I also noticed the shower head needed cleaned (full of mineral deposits) and there was not any shampoo or lotion provided in the rooms. Lastly, the AC seemed to have some issues staying under 70 degrees. Hopefully little fixes like this could get the hotel to the next level.

New room had snacks on the floor from the people before us. Receptionist noted for housekeeping to sweep room, but even then the snacks stayed all weekend. Quality - 5. Cheaply built hotel. The bathroom door was off the track and difficult to slide. Reminded me of an RV quality build (IYKYK). Price - 4 (Hotel) / 9 (Hopper) Expensive, but found an amazing deal through Hopper. The hotel could not match the price so we booked through them. Good deal! Food - 9 Lots of variety and constant restocking! Very good breakfast options. Pool - 7. Indoor and murky. If looking for a hotel with a nice pool, would not pick this one. We planned on spending most of our time at the beach and other entertainment options, so the pool was not a deal breaker. Overall - 8 Excellent experience with family in a safe location with awesome breakfast.

Since the hotel is right in the college area, they even sell local college gear in the lobby. For quick food options, there's a little snack station where you can buy drinks and snacks, plus a microwave available for guests to use. I also really appreciated the water station, which made it super easy to fill up my reusable water bottle throughout the day. Location-wise, it's about a mile walk to the lake but just a block away from downtown. Parking was incredibly easy and convenient, as they have multiple lots around the property where you can park for free. The room itself was nice and standard, equipped with a fridge and a small seating area. The bathroom was very nice and updated. On my first night, the motion sensor seemed to be acting up because the lights kept shutting off on me, but housekeeping must have noticed and fixed it the next day because it worked perfectly after that. My only real complaint about the room was the WiFi, which was pretty spotty and didn't really work well inside the room. Overall, it's a clean, convenient, and modern place to stay. I would definitely come back!

A few things to keep in mind, it is on eastern time zone, that's important if you're driving from the central time zone! Rob was gracious when I was running late to check in. The worst part was the management- outwardly rude, arrogant, and abrasive towards guests. Very strange behavior from them, would not recommend. Would definitely not recommend- especially if you are traveling with children.
