The front desk team was friendly and efficient. My room was clean and comfortable, and the location was perfect.

Stopped for happy hour and date night dinner last week and really enjoyed it. We got a couple…read moredrinks including a lemon drop martini and old-fashioned and found them to be very nice at HH prices. The happy hour menu had some great food deals as well so we tried the Black and Blue Crostini and the Korean BBQ pork wings. Both were delicious. Good tender steak and 2 nice pieces of BBQ pork on the bone. We didn't want to eat too much because we had a dinner reservation. We got seated and ordered the date night menu which included an appetizer, two salads, 2 main course dishes of steak or salmon and two desserts PLUS a bottle of wine. The appetizer was pork potstickers which were also very good and we both chose Caesar over House salads. Salad very nice with a hint of anchovy. We both ordered the NY Strip for the main course which came with mashed potatoes and green beans. The steaks came out perfectly rare as we ordered. Great cuts of meat with little to no fat. We were full halfway through the meal so chose to take the rest home and take both desserts to go. Great deal for $80. I would definitely recommend trying this place. Nice quaint restaurant with nice views and seems like a local crowd vibe. Great happy hour and very high-quality food. Must try.

I searched for cheap, pet friendly hotels that were not poorly rated and this place was included so I booked it. We arrived late, probably close to 1:30am if I remember correctly. This exit off 95 had all hotel chains and restaurants. Everything was a ghost town by the time we arrived. That's okay because we already ate and just wanted to relax. Check in was easy and quick. The woman who assisted me was great. I was given our keys and went back to meet hubs and the pup. Hubs has this assumption that hotels are better if the doors to the rooms are located inside as opposed to outside the property. The entrances to the rooms were located inside so good so far. However, the door from the side of the hotel we went into was not locked like most hotels, where you have to swipe your key in order to open the door. No big deal here. We get to our room and you can tell it's pretty old. The room felt stale, if that makes sense lol. The refrigerator leaked water all over the floor and the door was open, probably because they were trying to defrost it? We collected our things from the car, made a drink, and relaxed. After chilling for a little bit, we got ready for bed. The beds were not bad. I think I paid $50 for the room so I really cannot complain about the accommodations. We woke up and were not sore from the beds so that is always a plus. I went to breakfast but it was nothing special. My only complaint was the bagels were stale. Coffee did it's job, the muffins were like everywhere else, hubs enjoyed the waffles, and the biscuits with sausage gravy were meh. Again, I appreciate any food included with my hotel room so I cannot complain. Overall, I would stay here again. Let me make it clear though for all the people out there who are very particular about their hotels-this is no Ritz but a decent place to stay to rest and relax. No shady characters either!

Really disappointed with the mansion…read more This place was once the epitome of low country luxury with fantastic grounds and an opulent home; however, since the property has been under the ownership and control of the State of Georgia, the location has fallen into disrepair. Such a shame given the property's potential. The ceilings are caving in and leak whenever it rains. Half of the bathrooms are unusable. The food is fine, nothing great. The breakfast is cold with no option of warm food. Lunch is sandwiches and basic store bought salad. The dinner is very standard. Nothing remarkable. There are no snacks between meals, so bring snacks if you like to eat. The staff, while very kind, are not incentivized to provide an excellent stay and are remarkably ignorant about the local flora and fauna, which is surprising given the University of Georgia's satellite campus located less than 1/4 mile away. A child asked our "guide" if pelicans come to island, to which our guide said, "Nope, never." So when we biked to the beach (1 mile away) and saw hundreds of pelicans, our child was surprised. Our "guide" also was more concerned about getting his cash payment before going out to fish than he was about getting the poles rigged up and accommodating the older and younger members of our group. When trying to plan around weather, our "guide" said we'd have to pay twice if we tried on Day 1 and it got rained on, he was force us to give him the fishing poles back and then if we wanted to try to fish again on Day 2, then we'd have to pay again. For a purported "family friendly" and "educational" property surrounded by water, one would expect basic gear and educated resources be available at the location and not be difficult to access. I can't tell you how disappointing this place is. It has the potential to be an incredible place to learn, relax, and adventure but the ineptitude of government leadership and stewardship of taxpayer money has resulted in an overall sad excuse of a property. The taxpayers of Georgia who pay for the upkeep of this property must demand better, and if the government officials say "our hands are tied", then sell the property to a group who can actually take care of it and restore it.
