The consultation was maybe 30 minutes, and the actual procedure didn't feel long at all, maybe 15 minutes tops. Afterwards, his eyes felt a little sore and sensitive, kind of like having something in your eye, but not unbearable. The soreness started easing up after a couple of days, and he experienced little hemorrhage. It had taken about 1-2 weeks to fully clear up. Nothing too crazy though--it all felt very manageable! I was no longer able to wear the contacts which gave me vision since my early teens. My eyes were simply too dry. After a few months of misery in glasses, I looked into LASIK. But the price? It was beyond my reach. That is, until I found LASIK on GROUPON. I figured, I need to be very careful, after all, why would any self-respecting doctor need a coupon for customers? Boy was I wrong! I scheduled my initial assessment free of charge, as usual with these places. Upon entering PLC, I was impressed with the organization, presentation, and comfort of the office and staff. I helped myself to some cookies and coffee while I waited. Next, I was greeted by a woman, who brought me into another room, where she performed four tests on my eyes, for measurements and determining my candidacy for the procedure. She then brought me to a final room for one last check. She told me I looked like a great candidate, and that someone else would be with me soon. Just a few moments later, I was greeted by another woman, who was exceedingly helpful in telling me how the procedure works, what to expect, and even the risks involved. All topics which I was educated on already, but it was appreciated nonetheless. I was told about the required eye drops which would be taken three days pre-op as well as afterwards, combined they cost me about 60 dollars. She also assured me that she would be in-office the day of my surgery, and ended up doing my one-month follow-up as well. I was told my measurements would just make the cut for regular LASIK, but that bladeless would be a safer plan. (This is typical of higher prescriptions such as mine). Next, I was brought into a small office, with another young woman. There, we scheduled my procedure date, just under two weeks from that day. We also discussed the price difference between blade/bladeless LASIK, which I wasn't made to pay until my procedure date. I was NOT treated differently than anyone else because I was a Groupon patient. I was treated with respect by all members of the staff throughout. That is important and appreciated! Lastly, much to my surprise, I got to sit down with Dr. Richard Gordon himself. Apparently, according to reviews from other LASIK centers, this isn't as common as you'd expect! Many patients don't even meet their doctor until a minute before their surgery! Dr. Gordon was calm, cool, and collected. He went over similar things which his assistant did just after my assessments earlier, and didn't graze over the possibilities side effects, or worse, ectasia, etc. I left that day feeling very confident in my decision, and looked forward to my procedure date. I'll make this part quick. The office was bustling with employees the day of my surgery, there must have been at least five people watching over my procedure, with Doctor Gordon at the helm. Everyone was positive, happy, and I was given a stuffed elephant to hold while I got zapped. Doctor Gordon has performed countless procedures, and his confidence shows, I felt safe the entire time. The procedure lasted maybe two minutes, and I was sent home right after to nap. I was able to help myself to the office bathroom immediately afterwards (with plenty of discomfort of course, but hey!) and I was able to speed down the highway 24-hours later (YOUR results may vary!) Following the procedure, was about a month of increased dryness, and mild visual aura around light source (Both common and temporary for most) ONE-MONTH POST OP - Dryness from the surgery has subsided, light sensitivity was gone after 24 hours, and my mild visual aura around headlights/street lamps has just about cleared up! Be responsible, and follow all pre/post-op care! If you couldn't already tell, I absolutely loved every minute of time spent with Palisades Laser Eye Center, the employees, and Dr. Gordon. GO HERE. Don't wait another day to be free of glasses or contacts. Again, be responsible, and follow all pre/post-op care!

Full disclosure, I understand that 1) every surgery has its attendant risks; and 2) I underwent this procedure, including the implantation of a multi-focal IOL, voluntarily. Up until then, no one had suggested that I undergo the surgery. In fact, my ophthalmologist had advised that my cataracts were "not quite ripe". However, when I mentioned this to the surgeon, he said the technology underlying cataract surgery had advanced, such that the "not ripe" verbiage was outmoded, and no longer suitably descriptive. Following the surgery, the vision in my left eye was impaired, and blurry. Dr. Van suggested that we move on to the right eye, but I was naturally uncomfortable going that route. My vision improved very slightly over the following three months but remains much worse, with or without glasses, than it ever has been. Dr. Van offered a prescription for remedial glasses but the prescription's reading addition was alarmingly incorrect. I consulted with another ophthalmologist who has had specialized experience with post-cataract surgery problems. That Doctor adjusted Dr. Van's lens prescription so that I can now read a Kindle, but that's about it. Reading even a large print book, or sheet music is impossible, just too blurry. I am writing this on a laptop; blurry. It takes forever, and is very frustrating. In follow up visits following the procedure, two different doctors in the practice performed eye exams. The first said: "we'll get you back to 20/20 with glasses". The second said: "you'll have to explain all this to Dr. Van". During my final visit, I explained to Dr. Van that my vision was still blurry, and had been so since the surgery. He dismissed my problem in an offhand, and casual way, and made it seem that there was nothing really wrong. But then offered a referral to another Doctor, specialized in the treatment of "these sort of things"(!) At this point, I have seen a Doctor at a renowned eye hospital, who proposed revision surgery, but explained that such corrective surgery is more complex, not generally covered by Medicare, and riskier than the original surgery. These days the best way for me to read involves removing my glasses, covering the left (IOL) eye, and using my right eye which is pretty good without correction. Otherwise, even large print is blurry. These then are my opinions: First, listen to your trusted ophthalmologist - he or she will tell you when you're ready for cataract surgery. Do not undergo cataract surgery unless you have experienced significant visual impairment. I realize now I had no particular problem reading (with bifocal glasses) prior to the surgery. Second, do not opt for the multi-focal lens - especially if your vision with glasses is fine, as mine was. You're probably over 70, and no one is looking at you anymore. Uncle Sam won't pay for the multi-focal IOL procedure, and if there IS a poor outcome or refractive "surprise" as I experienced, those type problems are easier to fix (usually with glasses) if the patient has opted for the monofocal or "standard" lens. I wish someone had told me that up front. That part of my experience at NJ Eye Care was a hurried "assembly line" approach, as in "just sign here". Read the releases. Take your time. Stay away from the multi-focal lens. And stay away from NJ Regional Eye Care. I gave the 2 star rating because the office is neat, and the front office staff is great; and because it was easy to schedule follow-up visits.
