Absolutely spectacular electricians. Chris, the leader of the team, is exactly the kind of person that I love to work with. He provides clear, honest, and timely communication (by phone call or text). He has vast knowledge and a wealth of experience. He displays great patience and pays attention to detail, ensuring that the work gets done right. The entire QRE team are kind, thoughtful, smart, and hardworking. I was extremely impressed by their teamwork and communication, and of course their final product. When you call Chris for a troubleshoot, like I did, he will try to help you solve your problems yourself ("talk myself out of money" as he puts it). We got a good sense of what our problems might be that way, but it became clear after an hour or so that the team would have to come by to check things out. Things turned out worse than imagined, and they eventually spent two entire days (including staying until 730pm on a Saturday, for which there was no extra charge) investigating the house and then fixing problems and making improvements. Not only did they identify and solve our original serious problems, but they made our entire electrical system safer and more robust. And as an experimental physicist, I understand enough to know there was no BS. I'm not saying I'm looking forward to needing more electrical work, but I'm glad I have QRE when I need them. read more

I'm leaving 5 stars not because I hired him, but because he convinced me to not hire him. He saved me so much money, time, and headache walking me through the potential expensive roadblocks I would hit with expanding my panel. It's not just about the panel, it's upgrading the outdated meter outside, addressing any other code issues I inherited from the previous owners that I didn't realize, and all for something that he explained wasn't even necessary for my end goal of adding heat to my garage. We had two lights and two fans installed in our townhouse. Chris and his crew (he brought three other technicians for the job) were friendly, respectful, and wore proper PPE/masks in our home. The work was done within the time frame specified and within $30 of the original estimate. Chris personally checked each installation before leaving, as well as checking the circuits in our box to make sure nothing was overloaded and all was safe. I contacted Chris because I had a light and exhaust fan in a bathroom that wouldn't turn on. I expected to arrange a time for him to come out to the house, but he said "let's talk first, there's a chance we can figure it out together in five minutes over the phone." He gave me a call and sure enough, it turned out to be the GFCI outlet had tripped and all I had to do was press the reset button. Chris could have come to the house and charged me a service fee to do it himself but he instead took the time to call me and troubleshoot the issue. I offered to pay him something anyway and he politely declined. Needless to say, I'll be calling Chris next time I have an electrical issue, and I honestly hope we can't figure it out on the phone and he comes to the house so I can pay him! I was trying to reinstall a 4-way switch setup in my kitchen and ended up messing things up pretty bad. It got to a point where I needed an electrician to bail me out. I did a Yelp! search and called several, including QRE. Chris called me right back, and because he was booked for the next couple of days offered to walk me through the issue over the phone. I called him the next morning, and using Facetime, he was able to explain exactly what the problem was and what I needed to do. We actually ended up talking three times over the course of the morning, each time he answered when I called. He was enormously helpful, and I was able to complete the job on my own. We had three different electricians, ComEd and a plumber out to our house scratching their heads about a weird voltage issue in our shower (yep, you read that right) before we found Chris. Where no one else could even diagnose a problem, he had it pinpointed in 5 minutes--and may have literally saved our lives by identifying and fixing a faulty switch, broken pipe and energized plumbing line. My fiancé and I tried installing a large (and extremely spiky) flush mount light fixture ourselves, but the length of the spikes made it almost impossible for us to get to the wires and after 6 hours, we had to concede defeat. I reached out to a couple companies on Yelp for a quote and Chris was the most responsive and reasonable. He also had next day availability, showed up promptly with his awesome apprentice and worked diligently to get it up quickly (even he agreed it was a difficult fixture!). I highly recommend Chris and his crew for electrical work. In February, 2021, Chris and his crew upgraded our electrical panel. On the outside, they moved the ComEd meter (village requirement) and installed a cold water ground. Throughout the project, Chris communicated with Village/ComEd inspectors. He made sure they all agreed on how he would proceed which resulted in a positive outcome. We did not incur any additional expenses and the Village/ComEd inspectors approved the work QRE completed. Chris thoroughly explained each step in the project, accommodated my work from home schedule and answered all our questions. Chris and his crew were very professional. They did a fantastic job even though they had to work in severe winter weather conditions; extreme cold, high winds and snow storms including one where we received a foot of snow. read more

QRE took my 1920's house into the 21st century. I highly recommend Chris and his team! I reached out to QRE when my inspector flagged multiple issues with the fuse box at a duplex I had a contract on. Chris came out and wrote me an estimate to correct the issues which I used to negotiate a lower purchase price on the house. Once I closed, Chris worked with the permitting department and handled all coordination with ComEd so that they could start the job. Chris' team completely upgraded the outdated paneling to 100 amp circuit breaker panels for both units and added a public panel for the common area. Overall I'm very happy with the high quality results and I'm relieved knowing there is no longer a fire hazard in my basement! Chris came out when my circuit breaker with the fridge would not stay on. When he came out he immediately found that my sump pump was on the same circuit, and that the pump was the problem. He did not charge me for this call, and advised me to install a new pump as the one I had was very old and shorting out. He strongly suggested I have the sump pump on its own circuit. I don't write a lot of reviews but this one is well deserved, especially since I never even met Chris in person! I called with a question about two faulty outlets and Chris patiently answered my questions, helped me understand my electrical panel, taught me about electrical code, and then proceeded to spend close to an hour on the phone with me, helping me troubleshoot. He walked me through various scenarios, recommended next steps, helped me understand what tools and supplies I would need depending on how I wanted to resolve the problem, etc. I've never experienced anything like this. The guy is a saint -- I don't know anyone who would do anything like this. And although it took me a few hours, I got everything working again, all thanks to Chris. Would use again without hesitation. What most impressed me was the level of communication from Chris before he started the job. Lots of discussion that showed he was both listening to what I was asking and describing, but also that he was already thinking through what the issues could be and what might need to be done. It's clear that lots of others must have a high opinion of Chris as he made an appointment to come out with his apprentice, Patrick, on a Sunday. He was later than originally planned, owing to another project overrunning, but he let me know this would be the case on the Sunday morning. Both Chris and Patrick were very easy to deal with, and clearly communicated what they were looking at, why, and what they were going to do. Ultimately the job they did, installing a PTAC unit, they accomplished for a much more reasonable price than any of the specialist air conditioning contractors I contacted who were generally elusive about providing details of where their costs were coming from. My wife and I recently moved and there were several items noted during our inspection that we wanted a licensed electrician to repair/update. After reading the reviews online and talking to Chris over the phone, we hired him and his crew. When Chris got onsite, he pointed out several items and he said he would get as much done as they could that night, but they may need a second trip to get everything done which I was fine with. The first night he performed a panel check/find and replaced several breakers in my electrical panel. He asked for payment that night which I agreed to and he said he would send a detailed invoice along with the results of the panel find. During his second trip, Chris and I had agreed that his crew would repair one outlet and install two new outlets. Chris said they would finish everything that day and said they would work as late as they had to to get it done. Two hours later, while I was talking with a different contractor, Chris rudely interrupted my conversation (two separate times) and said his crew was done for the day, was unable to complete everything and he needed payment. When I asked him why he was unable to finish, he said his crew decided to leave. When I asked Chris why he promised to get everything done that day and then sent his crew home after two hours of work (Chris was in his van the whole time and could have finished it himself), he got defensive and said he couldn't control their schedule. I was annoyed, but we agreed to schedule a third follow up appointment. On the third appointment, I asked Chris to also look at light switch that was working before his crew was there, but wasn't after he left, he got defensive and said his crew didn't touch that switch. It wasn't until he came over and acknowledged that he was the one that was responsible for turning off the socket and that is why it wasn't working. He also said he didn't like the dialogue between us, so he wanted to end the business relationship without finishing the items we had discussed fixing. He also said he should have charged me a fixed fee vs an hourly rate because it would have been more beneficial to him. By this time, I had already paid Chris for two days of service and had not received the results of the panel find or a detailed invoice. I agreed that if he could send me the panel find and the invoice, we would be done. I followed up with Chris for a month for the panel find and asked him for a credit if he was not going to provide. Chris refused to provide a credit and threatened legal action against me if I were to contact my credit card company and ask them to reverse the charges. Chris finally provided the panel find after one month from the date of service and within the document there were several errors. He labeled certain rooms to wrong panels and i am still in the process of re-doing his work. I never received an invoice for the work. read more
