I moved to a new house during Christmas and now have a sliding patio door! But it didn't have a sliding screen door. The previous tenants had a magnetic mesh thing which was pretty heavy duty but also pretty chewed up. I don't know how many previous tenants used it but they were tenants with dogs. The top corner was also starting to peel, which wasn't anything some Command Post tape couldn't fix, but those also work better for dogs, not cats you're trying to keep inside. Of course, my cats loved it. Every time I opened the sliding door, the 1 year old would fly thru it like it was air, lol So I wanted a pet screen sliding door installed. It's an add-on room so the insulation isn't the same as the rest of the house. I wanted to be able to open the sliding door without my cats running out, especially at night. In March, I started calling around. The place that was recommended to me was temporarily closed due to relocation. And the mobile screen place quoted half the price but since I'm a renter, this is out of pocket. If the sliding door didn't hold up, I'd be paying even more to have it done right. So I decided to go with Quality Screen. They're in Signal Hill, I went by their show room to check out the pet screens. They said the pet screens were very durable and had never heard of a cat destroying the screen. That sounded amazing to me, lol I also needed a front window screen installed bec the prior tenants dog had pushed it out and the landlord forgot to replace it. The frame is made of aluminum alloy and has a lock on it. The owner, Patrick, was friendly, knowledgeable and professional, and his installer, Ernie, was very nice and timely/prompt. He came out to measure and confirmed that a track needed to be installed, which explained why the prior tenants probably just used the mesh thing. It was less than a week before the screen door was installed (on St. Patrick's Day). It has been about 6 weeks now. I wish I could upload the video of my little rock climber on this sliding screen door! They aren't kidding when they say these pet screens are durable! There isn't a single blemish on that screen! My friends who have a neighbor cat that insists on being let in and lets it be known by clinging their screen door, were over for movie night last night and witnessed Middy jumping on the screen several times. These guys know what they're doing. The front office is tiny & the rest of the location is the workshop where the window screens are actually built/assembled. I had a unique request for Quality Screen & Window - I was looking for a custom sized window screen that could easily be taken on & off our dutch door. We had just bought a new dutch door and didn't like the screen options offered by ClearView or Phantom, the cassettes that housed the screens took up too much space for our liking and were pricey. Quality Screen & Window provided guidance on the recommended hardware that would work best for my ask (simple pull tabs on the bottom & springs on the top to securely fit into the dutch door opening), as well as how to measure to accommodate the hardware (~1/8" shorter on the long side of the screen. Even with these instructions, my measurements weren't exactly spot on and were a little long. I popped into the shop and they re-cut the short side of the screen to my new measurements on the spot! We now have a made to measure, secure, simple & insanely cost effective solution to keep bugs out of the house with the dutch door open. The first time I needed some new screens made, called around for a couple of quotes and went here, they had them completed in 10 minutes for a great price and they are still up and working great (2 years later). I have also got glass cut here for picture frames and they always deliver and work super quick for the best price. I have ordered windows from them two separate times (4 total windows). For this they have also exceeded my expectations on price, quality, communication, and installation. I have more windows to replace in my home and I will keep coming back here. I used Quality Screens to re-screen an apartment building I own and they were quick in getting out to measure. My only problem is that they did advise me they would "call me" when they were ready for install. That didn't happen; instead I got a call from my tenant on the 2nd floor irate that a man with a ladder popped up in his window while he was enjoying some lovey time with his spouse. Scared the heck out of, then angered my tenant unnecessarily. Common sense would of told them to let people know before peering into their windows. Reasonable prices & fast service, but caveat emptor... I just ordered a dual-glazed window replacement from them (9June'15). The counter guy took down my opening measurements, and then tried to calculate a smaller panel size to fit in the opening (for clearance). As it turned out, he was about to order a panel larger than the opening size! He caught it, and called me, and told me he would correct it. I picked the panel up two days later, but ( and shame on me) did not measure it before leaving their shop to install it at a location about an hour away. When I got to my install location I found out how the guy had "corrected" my order. He had ordered the glass panel the SAME SIZE as the window opening size I gave him. Furthermore, his supplier had exacerbated the situation by making the panel an eighth of an inch LARGER than QS&Bs ordered size. I immediately called QS&B to tell them of this and to find out what to do. The guy who answered said the order taker wasn't there yet, and would have him call me. We waited an hour, and no call back from QS&B. I had to weigh the cost of a)driving an hour back with the glass panel and b)breaking a commitment to my own customer to install the panel that day against c)not knowing what QS&B would do to replace the misfabbed panel, and just fixing their screwup and finishing my project. I decided on the latter course of action. I had to buy a grinder for my drill and wet-grind an eighth of an inch of glass off almost 8 feet of glass edge(the top and bottom of the panel). Fortunately the homeowner was understanding (crappy vendors not standing behind their product) and let me use her water hose. It took two of us an hour to grind the edge of the panel down to where it would fit in the opening. I installed the panel and left with the profuse thanks of the homeownere (for getting her window replaced when I said I would). I then went back to QS&B and spoke to both the order taker and Patrick, the manager. They still had the piece of paper with my opening dimensions stapled to the back of their order slip. The order taker immediately made excuses for himself that it was "what I wanted" (yea, right). Patrick told me to bring the panel back and he would get the supplier to replace it. I informed him it was already installed because I'd corrected the screwups made by both his counter guy and his supplier. I asked him to "see what he could to to help me out" on my wasted time fixing the mistake. He said he'd call me later. I have just gotten off the phone with him, and he's a)refused to take any 'ownership' of this problem and b)dumped any solution (other than the one I came up with) off onto me and his supplier. He stresses they will do nothing to stand behind their work unless I pull the window panel back out and bring it back to them. So, this guy Patrick is totally useless to me as far as being a reputable supplier. I could take this up with my credit card company... and still might... but I probably will just go to another supplier. Thus, my warning: 1)DO assume responsibility, size-wise, for everything you order from them, because they will not. 2)DO make them put a tape measure to everything you've ordered from them when it comes in, because THEY DON'T STAND BEHIND THEIR WORK AFTER It leaves their doorstep. 3)DON'T assume they know what they're doing when they write the dimensions on their work orders. 4)DON'T leave their store without copies of all you've given them and everything they've written down. 5)DON'T let them install anything at your property without taking "before" pictures of the work area. Just called in to get an estimate on a custom window screen, and have never been so abrasively and aggressively talked to by someone from start to finish over the course of a 3min phone call. I'd explain what I'm looking for and mid sentence he would say, "What?! I have no idea what you're saying" or "What is it that you want?! I have no idea what you're talking about" or he would somehow misunderstand or mishear me and TELL me, not ASK me, to repeat a word that honestly didn't need repeating as the meaning could have been gleaned from the rest of the "conversation"...I say "conversation" because it was more having a stranger yell and get angry with me over things he was mishearing and not wanting to understand. Literally our conversation: Me: Hi, do you do custom screen frames? Him: screen frames? what are those? what are you talking about? Me: like a frame with a screen material covering it...that goes in the wi... Him: Wait what? what are you talking about? I AM NOT UNDERSTANDING WHAT IT IS YOU WANT Me: ... Him:we dont do picture frames here if thats what you mean Me: no you know, the type of frame that goes in the window on the outside and has mesh in the middle Him:...oh WINDOW screen frames, thats what you mean...its a window screen frame Me: yeah a window screen frame... Him: ok yeah you should have said that. what do you want? Me: i want to know how much it would be to get one 46X28 Him: *aggravated sigh* wait what, what size, 42X21 or 22? what did you say, im not understanding what you want Me: 46X28 Him: and you wanted the window screen frame? Me: yeah Him: what color Me:...uh (trying to figure out how to tell someone who does these frames for a living, what color metal is) Him: what color, what color is the original frame! Me:...(still confused since i dont want to be scolded again for saying grey) Him: ugh is it silver aluminum, is it gold, is it plastic... Me: silver aluminum And so on, our entire conversation was like this, ...and at the end as i was saying ok thank you so much, he just hung up on me. The entire time he didn't seem very thoughtful or concise with his words and seemed to have a hair trigger temper (i can only assume this about his temper because he seemed to have already been angry for having to answer the phone in the first place). It also seemed like if i didn't say or ask something exactly the way he had it in the script in his head, i might as well have been speaking in tongues. Like dude, that's not the way the world works, chill out. There's no need to be such a bully. I assume he's behaved this way before since he seemed like he felt he deserved/had the right to be an asshole, and felt very comfortable doing so...so the only reasons i can think that he hasn't been fired yet is management is too lazy to find a replacement, or he has some kind of ownership over the business...god forbid. Needless to say that's as far as i cared to deal with this business as a whole. Because of this one guy, they lost my business and anyone i would have recommended for their services...as well as anyone who cared to read this and any other of their bad reviews...assuming they haven't had my review removed from yelp yet (i really hate that feature, it makes things so much more deceptive). read more
