Most offered the same type of products just from different manufacturers. This company had a very reasonable prices which was lower than most of the competition with the same or better warranty and quality of product. They were able to customize the glass for a few of the windows for my situation having artificial turf. But the windows are still California compliant and passed inspection for the permit. The installation was completed in one day. They did a good job cleaning up after the work was completed. I recommended them to a few co workers at the office. read more

Summary: This company does truly care about customer satisfaction. As David and Tom told me after things went awry: "We don't always get it perfect, but when we don't we try hard to make it right." I reached out to start the quote process a little before Thanksgiving and was quickly responded to. I scheduled a Zoom-based overview of the materials and services offered with David, as well as provided some information about my property and the windows that I thought I'd need to have replaced. The next step involved David visiting my home to measure each of the windows and assess their surroundings when putting together an estimate. He even brought a floor model window for me to test the ease of sliding it open and closed (it was very easy). Next, he provided me a quote for the six windows we had identified replacing, which included a Black Friday discount. The total was around $5k for materials and labor. I ended up swapping one window for another and he quickly updated the estimate for me. No pressure or need for down payment. After consulting with my wife, we agreed to move forward and the next step was for a technician to come and measure the windows to a quarter inch so that the dimensions would be sent off to the SoCal manufacturer and the windows constructed over the next 2-4 weeks. The technician also assessed the surrounding area of each window and told me what would need to be cleared to make space for the installation. Soon we got a call that the windows were built and ready to install. We were scheduled for first thing on Saturday, Dec 27, and were told that it would take most of the day but all of the work would be completed in the one day. On Saturday morning, Frank the installer arrived with another installer and got to work. We had moved lots of items away from the windows as needed, and throughout the day we saw the technicians as they would traverse the stairs and through the front door with materials, occasionally saying "hi" and just checking on how things were going. Later in the afternoon, Frank called me up for a walkthrough and then informed me he had two major problems: 1. All six windows measured were such that they required spacers around them to fill gaps that were visible on the inside. For some reason, they were not ordered initially. 2. Only five of the windows had been sealed from the outside because one window had a tree encroaching on it and they couldn't get a ladder up to seal it. Neither of the two visits had noted that. Tom was called and apprised of the situation at the end of the walkthrough, and with a new storm a few days away and one window not sealed, I went into panic mode. I emailed a full recounting of the situation to David, and began hunting for a tree trimmer to come ASAP so that the window could at least be sealed or the old window reinstalled before the rains. The next day, Tom called me and told me they were ordering the spacers and would have them by Monday, and that Frank could come and trim the tree so that I wouldn't have to pay for a separate trimmer. We ended up scheduling for Tuesday, and Frank showed up solo to finish the job. He trimmed the tree and disposed of the materials, added the spacers and sealed everything remaining. When all was said and done, we were happy with the windows and the way the company worked to make it right (and on a tight schedule). We did have to keep everything in its temporary locations for another few days, and we did have to get vocal about our frustrations, but Smart Window Company finished the job and called to check in on us after to make sure everything was good. They were highly thorough and made sure to do a quality job. Windows look really nice. Note they're of course a window contractor so they hire an installer - in my case it was from a small window company in the OC. They called me after the install to ask about how everything was and after I said things were great they requested a review which is absolutely fine. I also get the idea that they take accountability for any issues and work to resolve them. That's the benefit of going through a contractor that's licensed bonded and insured and takes accountability. I'd hope any contractor was like this - this seems like the standard for any competent contractor but unfortunately there are tons of flaky people and companies out there. read more

Unlike other window replacement companies that I spoke to and who provides me with quotes, the Smart Window team had a no-pressure approach and took the time to go into great detail with me about the design, construction, and installation the windows (I'm all about the details!), and discuss my budget and specific needs. Our small house, built in 1948, is excellently located, but all of the windows were outdated louver windows, which were drafty, allowed external noise to enter, and caused our heating and cooling to escape. We had wanted to replace them for years; however, previous quotes from other companies were well beyond what we could afford. We decided to try again this year and requested a quote from Smart Window Company. David Winkler promptly contacted us on January 18, 2025, and arranged a Virtual Consultation via Zoom for the following day as this was most convenient for us. During the meeting, he spent nearly two hours understanding our specific requirements and exploring available options, providing a detailed explanation regarding the custom replacement windows. He demonstrated professionalism and was approachable throughout the interaction. On January 20, we received our initial quote for replacing 11 windows with 10 new ones, as we opted to merge two old windows into a larger picture window in the master bedroom. All windows included a lifetime guarantee. Although another company provided a significantly lower quote without any guarantee, David diligently worked to adjust the price until it was comparable to the lower quote. Consequently, we signed the contract with Smart Window Company on January 28. The Installation Manager, Tom, visited on February 3 to verify the final measurements for the windows. Bryan communicated effortlessly in perfect English with us, and in Spanish with Byron and the rest of the crew. He remeasured everything and verified each window's size. Unfortunately, one window had incorrect dimensions due to a manufacturing error. Nevertheless, the team proceeded efficiently and meticulously, removing the old louvers and installing the replacements within four hours. Bryan assured us that the correct-sized window would be expedited from the manufacturer. The job site was left clean and tidy both inside and outside. Today, on March 19, Peter, the Job Foreman, installed the remaining window, completing the task in less than an hour. I regret choosing Smart Window Company over the other choices. I have used three window companies for three different properties, and this company was the worst overall and I wouldn't recommend them. I can give more details below but I will also provide a ranking in different categories. Sales: 5 stars Product: 4 Stars Installation: 0 Stars Customer Service after installation to repair the bad installation: 3-4 Stars Overall: 2 stars. Overall, I found their sales process to be exceptional and superior to that of their competitors. They were thorough in demonstrating the product and providing detailed information, which gave me confidence in the quality of their windows. However, where they fell substantially short was in the execution of the job. The initial installation of approximately 36 windows (Essentially the entire house) initially took about a week, which was acceptable. However, I was disappointed with the quality of the install. When the installers left, they said that they were done but a lot was lacking. I asked the installers, "Are you comfortable leaving the job this way?" and their answer was "this is the best we can do." There were lots of things wrong: massive gaps in installation caulked up with silicone visible to the plain eye, damage to the freshly varnished front door, missing fins on the windows, failure to properly clean workspace. All of this not only made the windows look uneven, but it also raised concerns about the overall integrity of the installation and the rainworthiness. To add to my frustration, they ran out of parts twice (fins to help the aesthetic) during the initial installation and claimed that phase was the final result. Additionally, they forgot to measure one window, which required them to make an additional visit to complete the job. (to their credit in customer service, they comped that window when we said we didn't want the new window installed) In total, it took three separate visits totaling about 15 days in about three months of time. To address the problems with the original installation, I insisted that a manager be present on-site to oversee the crew. He was good and helped to make the final project look good, but even then it took two additional visits and about two months. Tom, the manager, did an excellent job of saying that he would make it right. Eventually, at the end, he offered a cash discount at about 5% of the sales price to compensate for the inconvenience. Speaking of expense, it is not as if they were dramatically cheaper. Months before, I had the same number of windows installed in another property in Los Angeles, and the cost was only slightly higher by about 5% but the experience was seamless. The reason we didn't use that prior company was because they didn't service the Orange County area where we installed these windows. It was also concerning to learn that the installers were not supervised while they were installing. Only after we insisted, after the first installation, did they assign a supervisor to the job. On a positive note, I must commend the company on the excellent quality of their windows. The windows do seem to be as represented in the sales process. The final product does look good; they seem to manage noise and heat well, and have a lifetime guarantee. When it came to installing a glass patio door, they failed to inform me that my existing electronic locks would no longer be compatible. After they installed the patio door, I discovered that the lock had been removed and thrown away. When I inquired about this, I was simply told that someone should have informed me beforehand. Had I known that, I would never have ordered the door since I wanted the electronic locks. Overall, while the sales process and the quality of the windows were impressive, I cannot overlook the issues with the execution of the job. The subpar installation, lack of communication about compatibility issues, and the need for multiple visits to complete the job left me unsatisfied with my experience. Having good people in damage control does not solve for the fact that damage happened in the first place. read more

I was scared to initially change all the windows in my house. On the estimate I got a walk-through with a representative who made me feel very confident in choosing a window that was cost effective and very efficient. It was nice to have someone so knowledgeable to help me choose windows that were in my budget. I was able to see tons of options in choosing different types of windows to replace the massive 5-ftx8-ft windows on my first floor. Paul was able to show me a remedy by replacing these with more cost effective windows and reducing the cost by thousands vs what I originally wanted. Nice to see a company that actually cares about saving you money and making you happy getting a product that you will practically have your whole life. Superfast install. I considered giving 4 stars for one reason, I wish they would find a better financing option with a better interest rate. Outside of that, the service and installation was great! We replaced all of the windows and sliding doors. We even changed 2 sliding doors to windows and the job looks GREAT! I'm very happy with everything, except the interest rate. Bryan and his team did an amazing job installing and David was great with answering my questions and being patient while I got quotes from several other companies. read more
