Quality Tree Care's team did a great job. It took a while to fit us into their schedule, but it was worth the wait. They worked on two of our trees. They removed an old silk tree that was very close to the house and carefully ground down the stump so as not to harm neighboring plants. They also worked on our tall pepper tree. They removed dead branches, cut off a large branch hanging into the neighbor's yard, thinned out and raised the canopy. The result is a beautifully shaped and symmetrical tree. The team was very careful and protected windows and plants with sheets of plywood, skillfully lowered cut branches to the ground and took care not to damage the house or fence. Joe and his guys are phenomenally good at what they do. I was referred to them by another tree service who was not able to accommodate. I contacted Quality Tree Care for trimming and removal of several trees, including two 40+ year old Monterey pines. Johnny came out to do the initial quote but wanted to have Joe, the owner, come and take a second look at the pines, which would require a crane. Joe came out and was friendly and easy to work with. Everyone on his team is very knowledgeable about trees, and that was the big selling point for me: trust that the job would be done right. Another competitor had a lower quote, but I didn't get the feeling that they knew what they were doing. That said, Quality Tree Care was able to come out the following week with a dozen crew and removed six trees, a rosemary bush, and trimmed six trees in one day. I had not had any tree work done in several years since I moved in, and they were efficient and entertaining to watch. It's not everyday you see a crane lifting sections of huge pine tree and people climbing trees in your yard. They requested feedback during the day to make sure everything looked the way I wanted, and they cleaned up completely. I will hire them again the next time I need pruning. read more

I needed to have an old large cork oak removed as the canopy was in the middle of power lines and it started to push against the utility pole so it became a hazard. I also needed to reduce and raise the canopy on a very large Elm tree. I contacted 5 different tree companies and received estimates. Quality Tree Care (QTC) wasn't the cheapest nor the most expensive. At the time I decided to wait as I thought PG&E would take care of it since it was on their utility pole and they are the ones who deformed the canopy by cutting it in a weird V shape every year. I waited four months to find out PG&E just closed my case and weren't going to do anything. I still had all the estimates on a piece of paper and saw that I circled QTC and wrote "Like" next to their name. They made an impression on me when they came out. Not only did Danny come out to look at what needed to be done and answered all of my questions, but Joe the owner, also came out later to make sure I had everything I needed to make a decision. It showed me that they were very customer centric. I called them after four months and asked if the quote was still good and if we could proceed with the job. They said of course and walked me through every step of getting a permit for the tree removal. The day the permit was approved I received a phone call from Joe letting me know that they had a cancelation and that they could come out the next day and do the job (how great is that, I didn't have to wait weeks to get it done). Andrew and his crew came the next morning right on time and everyone was extremely friendly and professional. It was a very large job to remove one tree and trim the other and it took them most of the day. As you can imagine, such a large job causes a huge mess. Before they left, every single branch was cleaned up and so was the saw dust. I also asked them to leave us some small cut up pieces for the fireplace which they did. The most interesting thing was that after they left, I had several neighbors who watched the process throughout the day come to the house to tell me how impressed they were with 1. The crew and how they handled themselves safely on the trees, 2. How great the Elm looked after trimming and 3. How clean it was after. Quality tree has the best prices in town. The tree stump in our front yard had bees that came out once the tree stump was cut down. They were very willing to work with us, offered to help call an exterminator as well. We called a local beekeeper who helped capture them and rehome them. Our neighbors used Quality Tree Care, so we asked for a quote to remove a 40 foot cedar. The estimators came out three times to see the tree before giving us a quote- maybe due to the size - I'm not sure. The quote was reasonable and similar to quotes from three other companies. Out of the blue, one week later we received an unsigned email with a revised quote that was nearly double. I called the office, and the gal doing customer service said there was no record of the less expensive quote. So, I sent her the quote as proof and was upset the company would bait and switch. Someone finally followed up and said he thought about it more and needed to increase the price. Yet, their price was WAY more expensive than the other bids. Plus, the guys were here three times and still couldn't pull together a bid? I can only suspect Quality Tree didn't want the work, which is their choice, but they were ultimately unprofessional and untrustworthy. read more

We hired QT to remove 3 large Redwoods which were planted too close to our residence. Other items in the scope of work included grinding of sumps in the backyard and pruning of other trees onsite. After a phone message and an email, Joe responded to our request for an estimate and arrived within a reasonable time frame. He was personable, professional and his quote was dramatically lower than the other one we received. After a couple minor tweaks to the proposal, we engaged QT for the work. They came out to do the work pretty quickly. The took the Redwoods down in one day, along with the backyard stump grinding. Everything up until then was great. After the initial visit, the communication fell apart and it took over 3 months to complete the job (remainder of pruning, Redwood stump grinding/treatment and fixing the fence they damaged). I do give them credit for taking full responsibility to repair our fence, without any argument. The crew dragged the stump grinder thru our side gate and damaged the boards. The handyman that was hired to repair the gate did a good job. It took many calls and texts to get Joe and his crew to come back out to finish pruning the Japanese Maple, and grind/chemically treat the Redwood stumps. They took care of about 80% of the stump grinding in the backyard, but we did not want them damaging the fence again to make a second pass. There were numerous times a crew person came by and did not seem to know what he was supposed to do. We tried to tell them what was required, but they would say 'I have to call my boss' then drive away. We were frustrated as it became like pulling teeth to get them to finish the job and respond to us. I was very surprised it went this way, given the many 5-star reviews. If they would have better crew organization/communication and responsiveness, it would go a long way and this would be a great business. However, based on our experience, I would not hire QT again in the future. read more

They recommended not pruning a smaller tree underneath one they did prune to avoid stress to the small one from more hot sun due to the reduced canopy of the one they did prune. Without charge they also provided recommendations for treatment of distressed Japanese Maples in another part of the yard. Good work, good advice, and on time. Joe and his crew are the best. Early last year our century-old oak tree fell across the flood canal behind our house. I went through three contractors and finally found Quality Tree Care. The job was tricky: the massive tree had collapsed both fences and was hanging on to the still-alive trunk. A crane wouldn't fit in the canal, so they safely managed the process with ropes and tackle. Seriously impressive. They left the canal and our yard perfectly clean. And they did it all in a single day. I couldn't have asked for a better job done. Joe's crew is very friendly and seem to genuinely enjoy this work. Their price was very reasonable. We had several other tree companies give us quotes but this one had the most reasonable prices coming from a licensed company. This business does not respect the customers' time at all. It was difficult to communicate with them, schedule work and both times they showed up late (because they couldn't finish the work in one day). Overall the work is decent but it took more effort on my part to call and schedule the job with owner Joe. They seemed to rush through the job and made excuses for simple requests. Thankfully Danny (the estimator) came by after to make sure we were happy with the work. I don't know that we would use their services again next year, nor would I recommend them. read more

I have had a need for tree service twice. The first time I used QTC based on their proximity to me and reviews. It was a small prune job of my neighbors tree (sticking well onto my property). Despite the small project, the care taken to ensure my neighbors were pleased, coupled with the amazing cleanup, left me very satisfied. A year late, 60 foot Monterrey Pine dies suddenly. I contacted QTC to give them "first shot" on an estimate. They were there 24 hours later and sent me a detailed quote the same day. As the price seemed more than reasonable, I decided to accept immediately. I was able to do this all electronically while riding BART. They scheduled the job a week later. I had to work and nobody would be home. It didn't matter. The estimator left detailed notes for the guys and I felt good about the project. When I returned from work at 4pm, they were nowhere to be found! Instead I had a spotless yard and a missing tree, complete with woodchips where the whole would be. This project was in the back yard, near a pool and in the middle of my lawn. I have no sprinkler damage, my lawn looks MORE than reasonable for the amount of weight they would of had to place on it and as hard as I tried, I could not find even a piece of sawdust. Read the whole thing: Went to them for a quote and their prices were pretty competitive. There was a miscommunication about the day they would arrive and they came a day later than we expected. So our dog was out in the yard. They had forgotten to latch the gate when leaving and we called them about it. Joe was receptive and apologized on behalf of his worker. We decided to go with them after they asked to make it up to us by coming out the next day. Their dedication to customer service and making it right was impressive and we really appreciate it. Joe gave me a call when they finished and let me know they made sure to close and latch the gate. The trees look really good and now we can get our solar panels installed on time! 3 years ago, I made a mistake: I did NOT hire Joe. HUGE mistake. I hired another tree company who over-promised and under-delivered, not to mention the hatchet job they did on our tree. I regretted my decision; I should have hired Joe and Quality Tree Care! This time I did and it was the best decision ever! Joe came out and gave us a very reasonable quote for the work we needed. In addition, he gave us some great landscaping advice and helped us to envision a way to make our yard really beautiful. I'm no gardener so I was really grateful for his advice. We needed a fairly large scope of work and I thought it would take Joe and his crew all day, maybe even two. Boy was I wrong! Joe's foreman Chris and the crew of 3 knocked out all the work in about 4 hours! They removed two trees, about 20 feet of dead shrubs that were 6 feet tall, plus other shrubs throughout the yard. They removed and ground a large tree stump in a hard-to-reach area, as well as all the other stumps from the trees and the shrubs. We have a large mulberry tree that probably hasn't ever been maintained. The branches grow back and forth, criss-crossing over each other. Chris was able to thin the tangled masses of branches and shape the tree. In just a few months, it's going to be a beautiful shade tree! I'm amazed at the amount of work Quality Tree Care completed so quickly. They were fast, efficient and clean. They left our yard so clean, you'd never know they'd been there in the first place! I'd told Joe about my previous bad experience and he made sure to address all of my concerns. He communicated with me every step of the way and Chris made sure to check in with me before the crew left. It made me feel really good to know that they were working so hard to make sure that my experience with them was a good one! I've read the previous reviews and the frustrations over missed and unreturned calls. Based on some of the more recent reviews and my own experience, I think Joe is working to address that issue. If I were you, I'd give him a shot. I am so very happy with the work his crew did and I will be hiring Quality Tree Care again! read more
