I brought my Italian Greyhound here after meeting Dr Davis at the Canine Carnival last summer. He…read moreis one of a handful of practicing ADVC graduates in New York state, which was a major draw because my boy has a genetic condition with his teeth called Familial Enamel Hypoplasia. Basically, he lacks the shiny, white, protective enamel on his teeth that most animals (and humans) have. This caused his teeth to collect calculus at an accelerated rate, giving him terrible breath, inflamed gums and (I would imagine) oral pain. I received a 10% off coupon for a dental consult at the carnival and booked my appointment about 6 months later.
**(My dogs do not see Dr Davis for their routine care, we have another vet in the area)**
At the consult, Dr Davis was excellent with him, very soothing and friendly. So much so, that my normally shy IG allowed him to pick him up and carry him into the back room (without me!) for oral photographs to be taken. Upon reviewing the photos and hearing his treatment recommendations I immediately booked an appointment for a full cleaning, extraction of an impacted canine and whatever else would be needed upon completion of a (sedated) exam following the scaling. The estimate was a lot more than I was anticipating, but as a former dental assistant (for people!) I know the expense that goes into the equipment, supplies and training for such a procedure. (I also have pet insurance! Whew!) They also offer Care Credit with 6 months to pay, if price is the issue.
The day of treatment, my little guy was dropped off around 7:30am. I was told to call as often as I'd like to check up on how things were going (I was clearly a nervous mom) By 10 am I received a call with the findings of the sedated exam. Unfortunately, his teeth were worse than anticipated and required additional treatment, including 4 more extractions and 7 composite restorations. NONE OF THIS WAS DONE BEFORE CHECKING WITH ME!! I gave them the go ahead after hearing the estimate had doubled. He was ready for pick up by 5pm, and Dr Davis went over everything that was done, in detail, along with photos of the teeth before and after. My little guy was their ONLY patient for the entire day. The whole office was devoted to him. They gave us aftercare, pain meds and booked a follow up exam appointment, and we were on our way. The next day I had a follow up phone call to check on how he was doing.
This is a VERY detailed account of my experience. Everything was great, professional and clearly done by people who care very much for animals and their well being. The only negative was the price, but as i mentioned before, the cost of dental supplies, equipment for sedation and x-rays as well as training is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. For the price, the level of care was second to none. I knew this going in when I made the appointment with a specialist.
I am extremely happy with Dr Davis and his staff, and thankful they were able to help my boy live a better, healthier, pain free life! My pets are my children, I didn't think twice about spending more money to ensure he had the best treatment available.
TL;DR
Excellent office, excellent staff, excellent care.
If you can afford it, I'd highly recommend going here for specialty cases.
