I ordered a bacon avocado cheeseburger with everything on it. Fries and a strawberry milkshake. Paid with my credit card. Remembered that this place had nacho cheese. So I wanted some. Having a $10 minimum for card usage, I couldn't use my card. As this was my only payment option for the day. Had asked for the cheese and found out I wasn't able to add to my initial card payment. This place is super old school. Nothing fancy and a pretty easy menu. If you sit inside you can watch them make your food and it is plain and simple. I have no beef (get it?) with the food or the nice folks that work there. The place needs a good cleaning and bit of an update. The chairs at the counter are missing parts, there is like one menu in the entire place unless you order from window outside looking at the menu on the wall. It just needs a little love. So I went last night. My first time and it was alright. Got there for Cruise Night which happens every first friday of the month in coordination with the art murmer. So on the first Friday of everymonth theres a cool old school mini car show out at the Giant Burger. So that was awesome. I knocked off two stars one because they wouldn't let any of us use the restroom. There was a good size crowd of people there buying food and what not getting the store business. Now, that's a little shady and they wouldn't even let us in to sit or anything. Whatevs Another star knocked off well beacuse they were slow. I ordered 2 cokes and one order of fries and I waited about 35 minutes. Am I being wierd or is that just tooooo long for a walk up burger stand? There comes a time in your life when you need a solid morning-after burger. I honestly don't know if these burgers are a quarter pound but they are the best guilty-pleasure artery-clogging bang for your buck when you really need it... as long as you're not in a hurry. The food is cooked to order, so you're usually waiting around with some other folks and perhaps even a cop or two. They unceremoniously dump fries over my wrapped burger before calling my order ready, allowing the fries' grease to lovingly blot its way through the paper bag and napkin. I like to think of this as an endearing reminder of the damage I'm about to do to my body.. and how, in that same moment, I could care less. A word to non-ketchup folks: Someone previously mentioned the fries not having enough salt and I find this to be a common Oakland burger-joint theme. Maybe it's a trick to get people to use more ketchup? Who knows? All I know is that, as an Oakland resident, I know what's up... and that's why I roll with my own salt and pepper shaker. It's not a health food spot by any means, but it offers a lot of typical "burger spot" stuff. I only know about the burgers, fries, soda, shakes and pie and they always hit the spot. The wait time is minimal. If you're unfamiliar with the process, you make your order and pay, then I retreat to my car and wait for someone to wave at me, and walk back up to the window to pick up my order. Easy peezy. They also now accept debit cards, which makes the whole process that much easier. They have recently added picnic tables if you choose to eat there. Don't be concerned for your safety, I've never had a problem no matter what time of the day or night I go.
