Busy night on a Thursday, it must have been because it was thirsty Thursday. Anywho isss pop'n pop'n tonight. Upon walking up the overall ambiance is beautifully set for a night out, as you walk up there is an open welcoming presence of the building as they have a glass garage like door rolled up, it's quite the beautiful space raised above like a platformed stage surrounded by the sidewalks. As I sat here waiting on my order, I could feel the crisp fresh air as it created a cozy night surrounded by all beautiful walks of life, and good food available late at night. I have been here a select couple amount of times, however each of the two times I've come I was not quite certain on what to get. Well this night, being unsure was not the case: I was kindly greeted by a very benevolent cashier, Larisha; and even at 1 o'clock in the morning this lady was beyond cheerful with an unchanging smile on her face - and bright white at that! - She was very warm, exuberayting positivity out this world, her positive energy definitely brightened up my spirit; Larisha was very personable and even took her time to suggest me to me the most popular items ordered on the menu upon my request despite the overall business that night. She broke down every ingredient off the top of her head as I was unsure of the food recommended food items. She could also see my struggle to read the menu, and handed me over a hand held one. Overall beyond an extremely generous individual! Despite the long wait of roughly over 40 minutes due to the fact that 3 staff members walked off, and me patiently waiting, I approached Ms. Larisha, and asked her about the wait time on my order. She then proceeded to officially prepare the order since the status of my order number on the order board showed, "preparing" for over quite awhile even being at the top of the list. She was overall very accommodating, and generous during my experience that night in which made the extensive wait (due to the unforeseen circumstances) worth while, and generally pleasant. If there is anyone that is best to be in the customer service field, and food service industry - it is Ms. Larisha, she is definitely the true divine prime example of the definition of excellent customer service (and beyond) , and what it ought to be everywhere! I truly recommend and commend her to any field as I know she would flourish. She absolutely deserves to be the manager of this location if not the future owner! Aside from my experience this night - the Melty Mac was delicious, topped with crisp toasted breadcrumbs, and cheesiness in every bite making this an excellent choice for your taste buds! The melt burger was good, and even more so the strawberry lemonade was filled with the perfect amount of sweetness, as it was quite a thirst quencher. This 'The Melt' location is definitely a good option to venture out to when you're feeling hungry in the late nights as your hunger strikes during the time majority of restaurants are closed! So come on down, and hopefully you'll be served by Ms. Larisha to even add to your food outing experience! read more

Tish at the Melt on Grand Avenue killed it with the customer service earlier this week. My team and I came in for an early lunch. She was super attentive with all of us and friendly. She answered all my questions I had about the menu and walked me through how to pay. Someone even came out with cookies and shared them with all of us. Such a fun location with great employees who go above and beyond, I will absolutely be back! Also I failed to mention that the food was so good. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted cheerfully by one of the older gentlemen behind the counter, which immediately set a welcoming tone. Our order was taken quickly and concisely, and when I asked for a burger recommendation, I was confidently steered toward "the works"--and I'm very glad I listened. The entire place was impressively clean, including the bathrooms, which is especially notable at 9 p.m. Every employee was hustling--no one standing around, no wasted motion--just a team clearly taking pride in what they do. The burger itself was tasty and messy in the best possible way, exactly what a great burger should be. The garlic fries were crispy, pungent with garlicky goodness, and thankfully not greasy. What really stood out, though, was the atmosphere. It felt safe, warm, and inviting--nothing like the stereotypes people sometimes attach to downtown Oakland at night. In a time when the world and media seem intent on dividing us, black against white, I felt genuinely welcome here. As a white, middle-aged guy dining with my 16-year-old daughter and her boyfriend, I felt appreciated and valued as a customer, even though the vast majority of the employees and clientele were Black. It honestly felt like there was no "black and white" at all--just people being kind and doing their jobs well. Big props to the employees and the owner. This is how a restaurant should be run. The Melt is an all around great experience. Just enough variety on the menu to please different palates. Great veggie options across all categories. Food was ready quickly and was the perfect temperature. But mostly what I loved was how cheerful and delightful the staff were. When I went to pick up my food and they saw I had young kids, they offered free Rice Krispie treats. Who does that these days. And also later an employee came by passing out cookie samples. Both times they asked me subtly first so the kids wouldn't see. I really appreciate how they went above and beyond. Good burger option, good location, and fast service. Parking nearby can be hard, but that will be the case given the location. Food is always greasy, you wouldn't be coming here if you are avoiding a good greasy burger. They have all the regular burger joint menu: melts, burgers, fries and shakes. It can get busy, but they try to get you in and out. My favorite is a good patty melt, but you can't go wrong with their burgers or chicken sandos either. read more

Happy National Cheeseburger Day! The Melt lured me in with a "buy a Meltburger now, get one free later." I splurged on a double Swiss & shroom burger and garlic Parmesan fries. Burger was STACKED. Bread was super crispy and yummy, but the onions felt a bit tossed in. I wish the pieces weren't so big, as they kept falling out with each bite. Still, it hit the spot for a late-night bite! Maybe I am too old for these chains. As a family, none of us felt good after eating the og cheese melt burger with garlic parmesan fries and sweet potato fries. To begin with, we weren't feeling it here for some reason the vibe was off - tables were not wiped off, not good crowd inside and just not happening today for some reason. The meat was dry so thats just sad - where was the juicy burger? I am done forever with big chains and I am also done with garlic fries - everytime I burp now it is all I smell and taste so no thank-you. The bathroom was dirty and no toilet paper. The pickle was not good. Staff was however great and helpful. Maybe because I am over 40? Maybe I have been eating too much homemade food and now I actually cant stomach junk food like this? I would rather pay bit more money and enjoy an artisanal burger than ever eat this again. My almost 8 year old feels exactly the same so perhaps we r too clean to eat this type of junk food in our lives. But let me say this, no food should ever make you feel this way. This has got to be the crappiest location out of all of the The Melt's locations. Every time I come here, I stand at the pick up window and no one bothers to help or acknowledge customers. The workers lock eyes with you and don't say sh*t. Today during lunch time, I stood there for 3 minutes and not one word from anyone. A lady behind me decides to just reach in and grab her order because no one wanted to help. I've been to other Melt locations, like the one at 925 Market and the old Melt at the Embarcadero Center, and the service at those locations have always been superb. If The Melt decides to downsize and close locations, this spot should be the first on the list. read more

It must be the potato buns but I love The Melt burger chain!!! What's even better is the buns are dairy free. I really like the string fries perfectly seasoned and crispy. Meat is also generously portioned and you can customize your burger ingredients. I look forward to trying their patty melts that come on rye bread. We're in town from LA for a work conference in Oakland and wanted to try somewhere new for lunch. The Melt popped up in our search, and I'm so glad it did! We ordered two burgers, two fries, a grilled cheese, and a side of mac and cheese, and my family tore that food up. Everything was bomb. But what really stood out was the service. From the moment we walked in, the staff was so friendly and welcoming. After we ordered, they called my number up and let me know they were remaking our fries because they weren't hot enough. I appreciated that so much. They could've easily just sent them out, but they cared enough to make them fresh. While I was waiting (which honestly wasn't long at all), another employee came out, apologized for the wait, and offered me a warm chocolate chip cookie fresh out of the oven. She was even offering them to other guests in the restaurant. Such a thoughtful touch! Then I saw a man come in who appeared to be down on his luck asking if they had any leftovers they didn't want. Without hesitation, one of the employees said quietly, "I got you, babe," and came back with a to-go box. That moment really stuck with me. When my food was finally ready, they apologized again and said they couldn't let me leave with cold fries. Even in our short visit, we felt welcomed and taken care of as if we were regulars. She said the original Melt burger is great but her favorite is the mushroom burger so I went with that. It was tasty. I really liked the mushrooms, aioli and Swiss cheese on the burger. The food is fairly consistently good. The fact that this place is open late is a plus... sort of. I have seen some of the weirdest stuff happen inside and directly outside of this restaurant. The drama doesn't come from the staff, but the "customers" who tend to visit venues like this at 1AM. My suggestion is get the order to go.
