I've lived around this spot for over a year and yesterday I finally decided to give it a try while I was doing laundry. An elderly Hispanic man runs it, he was very sweet, I ordered steak fries with only cheese, sour cream, and meat (it usually comes with nacho cheese, shredded cheese, sour cream, jalapeños, and pico de gallo) and my boyfriend ordered a plain double cheeseburger, the fries were so crispy and good, everything was very well seasoned. I'm very happy I gave it a try. This spot is more of a take out not dine-in, it only has patio seating, but it's west Oakland who would really like to sit here and eat on the patio with all the crack heads running around. Stopped by this place to grab something quick and cheap before heading back to SF. From the name alone, I assumed this might have been a hidden gem locals know that serve delicious food at incredible value. Unfortunately, I was incredibly disappointed. I ordered the Giant Burger because I assumed 1) Burger was massive 2) it included a soda and fries. Okay cool I was craving a burger right about now and would like a soda to flush down the "giant" burger. I see the price on the menu and it says $10.99. I assume with tax it can't be much more than $12ish. The man working the stand said okay that will be $14. $14 with local tax!?? I did the math that would mean out of $10.99 he would have to charge me a local tax rate of 28%! No where I know around the bay charges a tax rate that high for food and services. Okay I feel like I might have been slighted by the exorbitant tax but I'll let it slide if the food is really bomb. I get the food and the burger is no larger than your typical burger . Probably 4 inches across. It wasn't savory or memorable either. The fountain soda omg was literally no larger than the burger. It was a measly 3" ! 3 Freakin inches for a fountain soda? Hello !? Fountain sodas are usually where these food stops are most generous with. He literally gave me an extra small cup for the soda. Fries were your typical cheap crisp and thin fries. Nothing to write home about. I go to fast food/burger shacks like these for quick, delicious food at incredible value. I didn't get anything delicious or anything of substance from here. I also felt the worker here purposely inflated the tax rate to increase the final price. As a customer, I hate feeling slighted or taken advantage of. I was at the local high school, the iconic McClymonds, just down the street from GB. Whenever I go there, I"m reminded of one of the original Flint's BBq just down the street on San Pablo, now closed and just a distant memory. A local staff member recommended GB for a quick lunch, and I have to say, it's way more than a quick lunch. The building is a little confusing, because the menu is written all over the front, includes classic burger/fries menu, but seems like really a truck style Mexican menu; the guy who runs it was friendly and responsive. He didn't have lengua, but I ordered a mix of carnitas and al pastor, and he put the different meats on the different ends of the burrito, so I essentially had two delicious B's. First of all, the burrito was huge, as you might expect. The order took a while, because it was just one guy, but I loved the edgy ambience of the place that reflected a spot that served the whole community (two little tables outside, a little space to park). On a Sunday burger quest with the lady we discovered this dive heaven. A craving hit us and nothing sounded quite right. We decided to drive until we discovered a new joint to check out, our sights set for a hole in the wall greasy burger joint, we of course started heading down San Pablo into Oakland trusting that something would pop out at us. And boy, were we right. Just below a faded, dirty 1/4 Giant Burger sign we discovered Giant Burrito. Presumably it used to be what the neglected sign indicated, it is now a Burrito & Burger counter joint. A new sign displayed the menu above the order window and a Taco Truck sat vacant in the parking lot (perhaps a mobile extension?) We both ordered the Cheeseburger, which came with a small order of fries and a little (maybe 10oz) soda for $4.50 (=+tax.) I opted for the upgrade of bacon for $0.50 (when was the last time you added bacon for that cheap?) We sat at the only table available (a janky 2 top) and looked at the delicious grease bombs that sat before us. They were doubles which I suppose is standard, and a piece of crispy bacon was nestled into the cheese. And oh, did it delight. Sometimes you crave gourmet grass feed decadence, and sometimes you want just a good solid, juicy gut filler. When you want the latter, this won't disappoint The fries were also solid with salt and a little seasoning. We definitely have to return for the mexican fare, they have a 12" burrito (true to their name!) as well as nachos, tacos, quesadillas and tortas. Go for a dive, don't be deterred by the look of the building or the neighborhood and get the best burger deal around for $5. read more

Nestled in West Oakland on an island sits this little taqueria. With a sweet funny Mexican man who cooks up your order. I ordered two tacos de carne asada and my boyfriend ordered the steak fries and one taco de al pastor. As you can see we couldn't bother to take a picture before we ate it all. this is a great place for quick food, not much else. I've been here a few times and it's alright. Fist time I got chillie fries which were okay but nothing more than average fries with a can of chillie on them. Another time a got the giant barrito 12 inch. it was very good, however the guy at the window didn't speak English so ordering it was an expirience to say the least. I ate there tonight, and the old man that doesn't speak any english was there. the seasoning completely missed the burger only catching a small corner of a patty or two, when the condiments were put on, the mayo was all on one half, the special sauce on a separate quarter, and all over my fries, the lettuce, few onions, and one slice of tomato were all piled up in the center, and the fries were unsalted, and unseasoned.
